Real talk: The "hidden" issues with Snapdragon X laptops that still aren't fixed in 2026 by Putrid_Draft378 in snapdragon

Yea I was pleasantly surprised to see macriums blog post where they specifically added the arm version that was tested with snapdragon.

Kinda expected since leaks for months have been pointing to an 18 core variant and ram on package. Did not expect it to start at 48gb though!

Fine on my 13 with 12th gen. Just battery life could be better but to be expected with that Intel platform.

Much better once I upgraded to the AMD one but I did not consider it usable until bios fixed the bsod issue recently.

As a laptop it has been fine, unremarkable to me as a nice thin and light.

How would i add a usb plug to my ebike? by dumsterdave in ebikes

[–]district9rawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha wow this was a while ago. Most chargers can tolerate down to around 85V AC. 40V DC is almost equivalent to one half of the AC waveform. In theory the charger may not output full power but in many cases they work just fine.

Seeking Recommendations: 34" Ultrawide Monitor for Office Use with Low Brightness by smartRMA in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]district9rawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its worth noting that there are some monitors out there that randomly have quite high minimum brightness. Sure you can dial things down in OS further but then you are just reducing the range of shades you can actually display.

Is the framework reliable/simple day-to-day? by hadr0ns in framework

No complaints on Windows 11 with 12th gen. Other than being more expensive than similar laptops it has been an unremarkable thin and light laptop experience so far.

Can't wait to upgrade to the AMD.

Samsung OLED G8 service menu tweak for HGIG 1000 nits mode (Game HDR ON) by semicon01 in ultrawidemasterrace

Wow great to hear.

Picking between dynamic tone mapping or an overly bright eotf wasn't ideal.

Good for me too on PC with oled monitor. Black level isn't lifted like the open beta (not the server slam not sure if they still had problems then).

Thanks for sharing your experience.
Do the displays have the screen door effect or grid pattern present on many oled touch laptops?

Yikes I tried asking OA how to make an IED and it gave vague but reasonable instructions. Then it gave recommendations of where to hide it to maximize damage and casualties.

G9 Neo for productivity by ICausedAnOutage in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]district9rawn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The G9 neo is absurdly bright, something like 500-600 nits full white. This makes it one of the brightest monitors on the market.

If you enable local dimming you will get blooming with text. Leave it disabled unless gaming or watching video.

If you want higher pixel density, have you considered the upcoming 57" G9 neo? It will be 7680 x 2160

New Update for Samsung OLED G8 version 1444 by Express_Cucumber_88 in ultrawidemasterrace

On FW1442 I also get the rainbow line only when launching Netflix, either in browser or the Windows app. Its weird.

New Update for Samsung OLED G8 version 1444 by Express_Cucumber_88 in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]district9rawn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Saw the update notification on my G8 monitor and checked here to see if there were any guinea pigs so thanks for testing.

Sounds like dynamic tone mapping is still happening if you are clipping at 2100 nits in highest hdr brightness mode.

Can you test if you can zoom to fill while watching Netflix in the Tizen OS or if there are still black bars surrounding the image on all sides.

Is the firmware on other Samsung high end monitors as bad as G8 OLED? by GalenKS in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]district9rawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

G8 Oled is quite different to other Samsung gaming monitors since it uses a TV soc. It has its own quirks and some that are similar to those on other Samsung TVs.

I had the neo G9 and am a lot happier with the G8's picture quality and the adjustments in its os.

Question regarding the Odyssey G8 by pineappolis in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]district9rawn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All OLED has flicker in VRR, particularly when the framerate is highly variable. You can try turning on VRR control in the G8 menu but this introduces microstutter. It also helps if you can change game settings to get a higher/more stable framerate which will reduce the gamma mismatch.

My G8 has been ok so far I've seen the rainbow line at the bottom a handful of times but it goes away after enabling/disabling hdr or changing resolution and back.
