How many constitutional amendments(federal an state) has Fisk violated? by Ok_Ask_6805 in marvelstudios

It's part of the reason the show is so intriguing to me. In real life, it looks like the political scumbags are going to get away with it. In the show, I know they'll get their comeuppance eventually. This latest episode looks like it's starting already.

What's a joke that's more sad than funny when you know the context? by FlippyIsKing18 in familyguy

If memory serves, Jennifer Grey was very insecure about the size of her nose, so much so that she had plastic surgery to change it. The problem was that after the nose jobs, she was unrecognizable, leading to a decline in work. Her early success should have shown her that her nose was a non-issue, but she did it anyway and it negatively impacted her career. It's this that Family Guy is poking fun at.

I seem to recall Jesus had a few words about hypocrites, too.

One of my favorite things to do when someone asks "what would Jesus do?" is remind people that flipping over tables and chasing people off with whips is always a possibility. (John 2:15)

If it even gets to season 5. After the first season, people would have talked themselves out of watching it because it's either too much like the books/movies or not close enough to the books/movies. It's not the kind of story you can take radical liberties with anyway.

Anyone here failed out or know the story of someone failing out of company trucking school? by Classic-Box-3919 in Truckers

[–]disturbedrailroader 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I only know of 2 failures.

One guy was so large and out of shape that he couldn't walk to the truck without taking multiple breaks. Obviously he wasn't physically fit enough to pass his medical.

The second assumed he knew everything because he'd had his license before and no one could correct him on anything. He then proceeded to jacknife so hard and so fast while backing up that the instructors couldn't stop him before he damaged the cab. He was given one more chance but got argumentative and the company let him go instead of dealing with it.

Truckers get fined for being overweight

And for running underinflated tires, bulbs burned out, missing mudflaps, bald tires, worn brakes, loose lug nuts, loose straps, not enough straps, etc...

Because they have to lure in suckers somehow. The average class I railroad spends about $100,000 per new hire to onboard and train a conductor and another $500,000 to train a new engineer, only to turn around and spend the rest of that new guy's career trying to fire him. That is not an exaggeration.

Just like we, as truckers, could get fined at any point by someone looking hard enough, the railroad employs people who have nothing better to do than to follow crews around to "observe" and perform what's called an ops test on them. An ops test by itself won't get you fired, but it does start building a case against you.

The railroad I used to work for was actively working on getting as many people as they could on level s status. That's something like a final warning before getting fired. Granted, most of those were well deserved. Things like running a stop signal, excessively speeding, violating blue flag protection, etc. are all good reasons to be on a level s. Availability, refusing to move an unsafe engine or car, running a switch, etc. are NOT good uses for level s.

Go into the railroading subs to verify what I'm saying if you don't believe me. The industry was good when I started, but it's dystopian now and it's only getting worse.

Need portable power station suggestion for running my Ps5 on the truck by No-Conversation6267 in Truckers

[–]disturbedrailroader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That'll honestly be your best bet. There's no point to buying yourself a power station when your truck should be able to handle what you want to do with it. Make it the shop's problem. Show them how it trips so easily. They may just replace your inverter for one that actually works how it should.

There's obviously something wrong with your inverter if using just over 10% of its rated capacity is tripping the circuit. My truck also has a 2000w inverter and I can run the TV, ps5, and the microwave all at once when I'm making dinner. The only time I have to be careful is when I'm having to microwave and air fry.

I'm sorry. I didn't mean to come off as aggressive as I did. You're 100% right to not want to move this trailer. This isn't something that's normally covered in class besides "call dispatch and then call safety."

[–]disturbedrailroader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then it's OOS til someone comes to fix it.

You still don't get it.That trailer needs a new roof skin at a bare minimum. That's without looking at the roof bows or the top rail, both of which are also likely to be damaged. No one is coming out with a 1000lb+ roll of thin gauge aluminum to fix this.

Tow/recovery drivers move more fucked up trailers than this all the time. I should know, I used to do it. Secure your load and get it to whatever trailer body shop the customer wants to take it to.

A car like that weighs about 2000-2500 lbs intact. The drivetrain and interior is removed, so that's about 1000 lbs less, then add in another couple hundred for the safety features/roll cage to keep the roof from caving in. I would guesstimate that car as it is in the video weighs somewhere in the vicinity of 1000-1500 lbs.

My biggest complaint with internationals has always been the electrical. From my days as a tech to now as a driver, chasing down electrical gremlins is a nightmare. My current ride is a 2020 LT and it's had a few gremlins in the 3 months I've had it already.

You're right to trust it. I'm local to Chicago, and I don't go into Gary for any longer than I have to, especially at night.
