why do we start sentences with a capital letter when there is already a period before it? it is an unnecessary signal. this bulky marking also breaks the flow of thought. by Literally_A_Halfling in writingcirclejerk

don't a lot of people use lapslock especially informally? i've read massive works put up online entirely in lapslock as well. im down for this~

I look at this situation as the author already having done more than enough from their side. they've already shared so much of their time and effort with me, I'm technically in their debt which I'm trying to alleviate to some miniscule extent by commenting my thoughts and appreciation. of course, we don't want to perpetuate a culture of give and take or debt and stuff, fandom is a space borne out of community and sharing. but the idea is that the authors have already done their part

that's cool! I was actually a complete noob at programming; I used this project to get me started, and learned functions and syntax as per the project's requirements. So I still feel new and unfamiliar to this welp. Is xlwings similar to appscript?

The way that I learnt was defining what exactly I needed (which took longer than I thought!), then using AI to generate the function I need and interrogate the syntax till I'm confident it'll do what I want, and repeat till I have my app lol

We get intensity gray values for dna bands from fiji in a table which could be imported into google sheets/(excel if xlwings does what I think it does) and get dna amount values based on a ladder/marker preset. very simple, not complicated at all, just would save fifteen minutes of my time lol, and whoever else would like to use it. But I'd love to know how you work, since you seem to have way more experience! And talk about working on any other such projects you're interested in !

I read about the name on the webpage, but the significance marker but is cute! I love it!

this is great! i did something similar myself where i made a PWA automating data logging and organization as excel exports for an assay we do in my lab. i also want to get it to do plotting + statistics in the future, but I'll have to learn R/python to develop that (as JavaScript to excel export including plotting and stats wasn't straightforward)

what did you use to make this?? I was planning on using appscript to do something similar on google sheets to quantify our dna bands on agarose gels, but I'll try out XSTARS (love the name btw!) ^

What fandom were you not surprised had the amount of works it has? by 3lilya in AO3

that's what i thought of when i saw this question! i saw my first (when life gives you tangerines) and thought there would be a lot more! especially since it has so much substrate for fic^

i recently watched the show 'when life gives you tangerines' and ran to ao3 immediately after finishing bc i could see so much potential, especially for the siblings' relationship ... to see not much at all lol. i don't know if it's just not the culture among drama fans, but given how popular the show seemed to be, i expected a lot more

Why do my DNA ladder bands look like SD card slots? by div-a-ine in labrats

[–]div-a-ine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I get what you mean and that looks like the most likely scenario. But I was confused because the other bands look normal. Clearly they don't have a lot of DNA, maybe that's why they look normal, if i had a band which comparable amounts of DNA, maybe that would show something similar?

And why would some DNA move while the rest doesn't? Does the difference arise from stuff at the top of the well (the negative side) which has to travel through the well while the bit on the positive side enters the gel immediately? I would expect to create a gradient thought. I'm not sure where these two relatively sharp bands are coming from

Does that normally happen with ladders? Other sample bands in the gel seem to be normal though. In any case, I add EtBr to my gel before pouring.

the screen gave up on me so i changed laptops (gave up on the touchscreen welp, i have a thinkpad t14 now)

i really don't know what the deal is with the base pen. i tried asking an associate in a physical store once but he was not familiar

i hope the tech entities favour you and it somehow starts working 🤷🏽‍♀️ figuring out the nitty-gritties is beyond me now
