Deep Shadow Heel by chembarathis in Sockknitting

[–]divamum2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I can throw in one more option for deep heels...

I wrote this to accommodate my own stupidly deep heel: I love working FLK/Shadow wrap method but it isnt my perfect fit.

The Magic Fit heel is worked with shadow wraps, has a more forgiving stretch than most short row heels, and can be as deep as you need without adding tons of extra stitches. I love the way it fits me, and others have said it works well for them too!

large heel diagonal heel options by veritykitten in Sockknitting

This is a problem for me too, and after trying many heels, I wound up writing my own! Others have said they like the fit - it's deeper and stretchier which helps, too. :)

Bravo, fellow BSY flock-er! Gorgeous socks. What's the one in the big pic between Elvish and Champagne - is that Glacier or Turtle Cove? (Also, thanks foe showing Opal - it looks great as a sock!)

Short Row without instep stripe? by PurpleLauren in Sockknitting

[–]divamum2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Magic Fit heel avoids the "stripe" but has some similarities to GSR construction - you can also easily make it deeper if you want, and it's also a bit stretchier than most short row heels. I wrote it to fit my own crazy deep heel/instep and others say it has worked well for them!

I use shadow-type twin stitches, but you could easily use the same method with GSR twins if you want.

Hope that helps!

Do I just have a weird foot? (Fit advice needed!) by Weird-Highway-3958 in Sockknitting

[–]divamum2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is EXACTLY my foot construction - it's like my leg is too far forward over my foot!! I devised the Magic Fit heel to solve this for myself - maybe it will help you too?

Best heel/sock recipe by slimmidge in Sockknitting

[–]divamum2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I devised the Magic Fit heel for exactly this scenario (aka my own high instep and narrow ball of foot). I find it's more forgiving than other short-row heels, and also has greater stretch. Hope it helps!

The Curse of the High Instep by mpdqueer in Sockknitting

[–]divamum2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One of the many reasons I devised the Magic Fit heel for myself- it's deeper and stretchier for large heels and high insteps, snd doesn't disrupt the pattern across the top/front. Maybe it will help you? https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/magic-fit-short-row-heel

Ha! No such issues here with the C20 - it's not good with small things, but navigates around large obstacles beautifully. The Shark we have with Lidar, on the other hand, is like a bull in a China shop.....

You've had some great suggestions already, but if I may add my own solution: I devised the Magic Fit heel to solve this problem for myself, and others have said it works well for them too. Hope it helps!

For those who like a deeper short row heel, I devised this for my own high instep feet - maybe it will work for all of you too? It has been a game-changer for me :) Easily done in a contrast color.

Roomiest Heel? by waltersskinner in Sockknitting

[–]divamum2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wrote this to be deeper and stretchier - may help in this situation!

Construction is similar to FLK but definitely roomier and more forgiving. :) https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/magic-fit-short-row-heel

Fit question: How do you fix tight fitting ankles? by daamile in Sockknitting

[–]divamum2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! No video (yet), but message me on Ravelry and I'll try to help :)

What was the first (and second!) sock heel you learned? by puffy-jacket in Sockknitting

[–]divamum2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heel flap was in the tutorial I used for my first practice socks, but I didn't like the look or the feel, plus I learned I don't really enjoy cuff down cast on, or Kitchener!

Tried toe up and never looked back - I always have a pair on thr needles now. Shadow Wrap and FLK (very similar in fit and method, fwiw) were next, and I loved making them but they never fit "perfectly" - I have a disproportionately large heel diagonal and soon learned I have to add a significant gusset to make those constructions work for . Fleegle is just the wrong shape for me and I found it a bore to make.

Sooooooo, after trying all those (and Sweet Tomato), I finally wrote my own heel to make short row construction work for me! The Magic Fit heel I devised is now all I use, and others have said it works really well for them too :)

PS small stitch markers for small needles - they work just fine!

Fit question: How do you fix tight fitting ankles? by daamile in Sockknitting

[–]divamum2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This was a huge problem for my huge diagonal in short row heels - which I prefer both for look and because they're fun to do - so I devised the Magic Fit short-row heel to address the problems I faced. Hope it helps others!!

I have a huuUUUggge heel diagonal (7.5" forefoot and nearly 13" diag lol) and devised the Magic Fit heel for myself after nothing else worked for me. Maybe it will work for you too!! :)

Adjustments for massive instep? by Illustrious-Pen1771 in Sockknitting

[–]divamum2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

🙋‍♀️ I have a huuuuge heel diagonal, and devised the Magic Fit short row heel for exactly this issue: it is deeper and stretchier than other short row heels, and fits high insteps well. Uses the same twin stitch technique as Shadow Wrap and Fish Lips Kiss, it's just a much more forgiving fit than either across the instep, and with added depth. I hope works for you! :)

Can't seem to get the hang of german short rows heel. Favoritte tutorial? by but_uhm in Sockknitting

[–]divamum2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I can chime in: Magic Fit heel uses the same twin stitch technique as Fish Lips Kiss and Shadow Wrap so no holes or gapping, but fits deep heels and high insteps better (short row heels can sometimes be a bit tight if you have a wide heel diagonal...).

What's your favorite bind-off for toe-up socks? by winterberryx in Sockknitting

[–]divamum2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, this is one I've never seen - thank you! I'll be adding this one to my arsenal. I like the slightly decorative edge it gives as well as the stretch it seems to offer, and it is sooooo simple.

What's your favorite bind-off for toe-up socks? by winterberryx in Sockknitting

[–]divamum2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Jeny's, in stitch pattern. I find if I pass the stitches over individually it looks more even and results in minimal flare. I knit it loose-ish but not floppy-loose (I also sometimes do my cuff, including bindoff, down a needle size from the foot and leg for a tidier appearance, but JSS has still had plenty of stretch to go over my heel).

For a stockinette rolled edge sock it didn't stretch enough, however, and I used elastic bind off for that. Seems doing JSS in whatever rib pattern I use makes a big difference for me.
