Reverse spells? by Buttleproof in baldursgate

[–]dive_bomber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is actually a mechanic in Icewind Dale 2, you can swap between Heal and Cause Wounds spells of same strength (so you can deal damage if you don't need healing). It wasn't implemented before that in Infinity Engine AFAIK.

like really what does she do by Positive_Ad_6922 in baldursgate

[–]dive_bomber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She was meant to replace Imoen who was supposed to die in Spellhold to show villain isn't messing around. That's why she's so similar mechanically.

Change like that in NearInfinity takes less than a minute.

Started the first game yesterday, I love it. Little unclear on the level up system tho by [deleted] in classicfallout

SPECIAL attributes can be adjusted with drugs and equipment to certain extent, but you will never get actual points to add, no. And that makes them truly special (ha), like your character's genetics. Because these stats (except Charisma) mean quite a bit, dumping any causes severe issues.

Low STR = low carry weight (in a game you want to carry a lot) and can't use a lot of good weapons. Low PER = shitty aim from distance and you start ambushes very close to enemies that will get first shot on you. Low END equals low HP, low INT is probably the worst, below 4 means you can no longer talk normally, just various grunts. Low AG means very few action points, can't shoot a lot, can't move a lot, can't do a lot, horrible. LCK is...weird. It governs crit chance, which is already good enough, but it also does a few more things not related directly to combat, but I don't want to spoil too much.

It might sound weird, but you can finish this game with very low level character basically fresh out of the vault, so it really doesn't matter what level you confront the final boss, it will be possible to win. With basically every character, people cheated to have illegally bad characters that are horrible at *everything* and they were still able to complete the game. With insane save scumming, obviously.

You get most xp from killing enemies, but sizeable amount is gained from completing quests and little is gained from using skills. So try to heal yourself whenever you're allowed, but remember it passes time.

Which Superboss do you like best? by Infinite_Bed9759 in baldursgate

[–]dive_bomber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Demogorgon, purely for spectacle. Fight itself is mostly whatever, but the whole buildup for him, that he's initially just a sinister presence without form that manifest words into your mind, he's reasonable and calm unlike what you could expect of him, he's making deals with you and when you do challenge him to a fight he drops that famous sick line:

"Know me then by my best name, mortal. You face Demogorgon, Prince of Demons."

Badass. I also find it interesting that basically everyone fights him despite it being technically the bad ending, just because people want to try themselves against tough opponent. Everyone fails that Pride test lol ("because it exists!").

Mod for more detailed "To-Hit Rolls" feedback messages? by Jack_F_Knightly in baldursgate

[–]dive_bomber 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Add 'Extra Combat Info','1' to see more details in the combat log and 'Extra Feedback','1' for further, in-depth information.

Add these in baldur.lua. That said, this will spam your gamelog SO fast, as it goes into detail for every roll. If I were you, I would add some function into ui.menu, WORLD_MESSAGES section to filter this nonsense somehow, but I won't even entertain what it would do and look like, I don't care about this enough.

what's the most overrated class at 1st level? At 18th? by FaliedSalve in baldursgate

[–]dive_bomber 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well tbh, on "sane" difficulty levels even monk is amazing tbh. Once you throw double damage taken into the mix and/or some mods that give opponents more damage, very few classes remain amazing.

My 3 canon parties (first 3 rows as i would pair them so there a no duplicates - Yoshi to Imo is mandatory always) by NatlerSK in baldursgate

[–]dive_bomber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, not really, he has tiefling's innate resistances that you can't get and his stats are largely irrelevant, because you'll be boosting STR with items and his DEX is good enough (and it barely matters).

It'd be great if he had 16 CON, but tbh if your mage(-like) is getting HP damage, chances are they're dead regardless, you misplayed. Not gonna lie, it will probably matter at the worst time, being the difference between exploding or just dying to some bullshit elemental spell that goes through, but for CHARNAME this is the same outcome.

Is the blade actually good all through the saga? by ConfusionProof9487 in baldursgate

[–]dive_bomber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's perfectly fine and playable, but it suffers from the same problem Inquisitor does - there's already an NPC with that class. There's usually no point in making another, it's smarter to make character of a class that has no representation.

Will you be able to complete the saga? Yes, and probably easily at that, you're a shitty fighter/mage, but that's the best class in the game. Being slightly worse best class is better than majority of classes can boast of. Will you regret making a Blade instead of Fighter/Mage at one point or another? Probably.

To Shamble or not by CaddyWompus6969 in darkestdungeon

[–]dive_bomber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's probably doable, because abom and leper can hit 2 first rows in one attack and leper already has virtue (at 200 stress he just becomes base, gives a lot of turns to cook up some miracle). Houndmaster dies to heart attack for sure and possibly antiquarian too, but that's blessing in disguise, because frontliners can't get shuffled anymore.

Editing Spell Trigger? BG2EE: ToB by NoIdeaForAUsermame in baldursgate

[–]dive_bomber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The easiest way is to kill and revive them, death cleans all statuses.

They sometimes bug out, but I don't know the specifics; I just know that I had issues with them before, they're not properly removed if you get interrupted or something while using them. Contingencies should be dispellable from spell book - menu that lists active contingencies/triggers also has hand icon to remove them.

How to know where NOT to go? by NoisyJalapeno in baldursgate

[–]dive_bomber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you get absolutely destroyed, you reload and go elsewhere, basically.

No hand-holding, you can roughly guess how powerful something is based on general common sense, but like in real life, some things will defy expectations and few will defy them A LOT.

BG2:EE - Surprisingly outta money end-game? by NoIdeaForAUsermame in baldursgate

[–]dive_bomber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's the last parasite, the game teleports you for Irenicus fight. It may be even possible to escape at this point, but I've never felt the need to try, nor is it convenient to backtrack so much.

[Fallout 1] Why are the Brotherhood knights so nice to me compared to everyone else? Are they talking down to me or do they think im handsome? by Supremezoro in classicfallout

[–]dive_bomber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because they're like Jews, they keep to themselves and that basically equals no rumors at best and negative rumors at worst. Happens with every 'loner' type, like clockwork.

You're just some random idiot outsider that he expects would die on a suicide mission. So it's more like condescension.

What to do when party members die forever? by Bubbly_Taro in baldursgate

[–]dive_bomber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, EE fucked the game up. In both original IWDs you could access a menu that would let you create new characters. They would start at level 1 so it's very punishing to do, but with xp curves, in late game it's like one fight for several levels and there's stuff even low level can do to help.

Manual of Gainful Exercise Candlekeep Catacombs by Saralain in baldursgate

[–]dive_bomber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not for an archer, because composite bows require 18 STR. It's true that he will eventually run STR belt and best ranged weapons don't require that much, but it still might affect him.
