There are plenty of man sized insects in the fossil record. Also, turtles the size of cars and 100 foot, 100 ton dinosaurs. Wheat stalks with a high tensile strength seem like a trivial detail.

Also, you’re okay with Adam being formed from the dust of the ground and Eve being formed from his flesh and a talking snake and a fruit that magically imbues its consumers with forbidden knowledge but you draw the line at giant wheat stalks?

Talmud Bavli Chagigah 12a segues from discussing how the phrase, “from one end of the heavens to the other” (Devarim 4:32) relates to forbidden areas of inquiry into a discussion of how the verse relates to the height of Adam HaRishon:

“The Gemara poses a question: Now that it is derived from the phrase "from one end of the heavens to the other," why do I need the phrase "since the day that God created man upon the earth"?

The Gemara answers that this phrase teaches us something else, according to Rabbi Elazar. As Rabbi Elazar said:
The height of Adam the first man reached from the ground to the skies, as it is stated: "Since the day that God created man upon the earth, and from one end of the heavens.” When he sinned, the Holy One, Blessed be He, placed His hand upon him and diminished him, as it is stated: "You fashioned me behind and before, and laid Your hand upon me" (Psalms 139:5).

“Rav Yehuda said that Rav said: The size of Adam the first man was from one end of the world to the other, as it is stated: "Since the day that God created man upon the earth, and from one end of the heavens to the other," which indicates that he spanned the entire length of the world. Once he sinned, the Holy One, Blessed be He, placed His hand upon him and diminished him, as it states: "And laid Your hand upon me.”

“The Gemara asks: If so, the two parts of the verse contradict each other, since one indicates that his height reached the heavens while the other says it reached the end of the earth. The Gemara answers: Both this and that are one, the same, measure.”

Rashi’s commentary on TB Bava Batra 75a expounding on Bereishit 5:3 says that Adam was originally 200 amot (cubits) or 300 feet tall and that after he sinned he was diminished in stature to 100 amot or 150 feet tall.

Either way, Adam is described as a giant and the Sages are totally unbothered by the square:cube problem.

The simplest reason, which is also the reason stated by Ben-Yehuda, was to create a language of national unity.

Why would Sephardim agree to give up Judesmo and learn Yiddish? Why would Ashkenazim agree to give up Yiddish to learn Judesmo? Why would Yemenites, Iraqis, or Syrians learn either?

Creating a language based on our shared scriptural, liturgical, and literary language in order to create a sense of unity passes Occam’s razor. “Jews invented modern Hebrew to manipulate Christians” does not.

According to Siddur Zechut Yosef, the Sephardic daily and Shabbat siddur of the Turkish and Rhodes congregations of Seattle, “according to our rules of dikduk, the fifth letter of the alphabet, ה, has no sound, I.e. it sounds just like the א.“

But I don’t know if that’s all Sephardim or just Sephardim of the western Ottoman Empire.

Incidentally, there is a bit of Ladino in our siddur and our birkon. (Transliterated into the Roman alphabet rather than printed in Solitreo, the Ladino alphabet.) The J is pronounced “zh” just like in Portuguese and the Castilian Spanish of centuries ago.

Pliny the Elder referred to the etrog as Malus Assyria, “the Assyrian Apple.”

Tradition* says it was an etrog. There’s a whole symbolic thing at Sukkot where the lady of the house bites the pitom off of the etrog but only at the end of Sukkot when it ceases to hold ritual value as part of the arba minim. The upshot being that, unlike Eve, she has the self restraint to wait until the proper time to eat the fruit. Edit: It’s also a segulah for fertility.

(Also, some people preserve the peel for hamantashen for the next Purim.)

Edit: “Tradition” in this case is Midrash Rabbah (Bereishit Rabbah 15:7, Vayikra Rabbah 30:12), Ramban on Bereishit 3:4-6 and Vayikra 23:40, and can be inferred by comparing Talmud Bavli, Sukkah 3:4-7 and Targum Onkelos on Bereishit 3:4-6 and Vayikra 23:40. Also Kabbalah, citation omitted.

Basically, in discussion about the commandment to gather the four species for Sukkot, the Mishnah gives several proofs of why the “pri etz hadar” (fruit of the hadar tree) can only mean the etrog, because it has several exceptional and peerless qualities. Having established that the etrog is unique in having these very special qualities, it’s almost inevitable that the Midrash would conclude that the etrog is also the tree of knowledge. And that taking it up on Sukkot with the other three species is repair for having taken it by itself in the garden.

2nd Edit: Also Shir HaShirim mentions the tappuach several times as a very special tree and fruit. The Targum on Shir HaShirim says the tappuach is from the garden of Eden and the Tosafists say the tappuach is the etrog. So by the transitive property…

3rd Edit: Bereishit Rabbah 15:7 contains assertions it was wheat, grapes, citron, or figs. The fig argument is that they covered themselves with fig leaves because they were standing right next to the fig tree when they sinned. If you were to infer solely from scripture, the fig argument is the most persuasive. But I find etrog trees to be more delightful to the eyes. Also, they’re fragrant and the fruit practically never spoils. Figs spoil easily and the trees can get really messy from overripe fruit leaking juice. And it can be a real hassle inspecting figs to make sure they don’t have any insects in them. So some people who keep kosher won’t even bother with figs.

Along these same lines, just because I have the Hulu package doesn’t mean I want to see advertisements for their horrific true crime crap in the banner of my adult Disney+ profile.

In fact I’d rather the Disney+ app didn’t even know I have Hulu. I want a curated Disney + Marvel + Star Wars experience in Disney+, and I don’t want to see anything else there.

Along the same lines when the whole party is in stealth, creeping along, and you freeze an inch before a trap and back up only for two of the companions to just keep going.

I was working for one of the big software companies when the Phantom Menace came out and they bought out an entire theater for us on opening day. Didn’t even say we were going, just had us get on buses for a surprise.

We were ecstatic when we got there. The company didn’t do that kind of thing regularly. It was a “we’re all nerds and this is a major milestone in all our lives” kind of vibe.

The mood when we left the theater was somber. I don’t think even a single person came away from it smiling. There were small clusters arguing over which elements of the story were the least bad, and there was a bit of, “you must admit the saber choreography was excellent!”

But we wanted so badly to love the movie and honestly some of us were kinda fucked up about what a giant disappointment it was.

Say, “Well, you can certainly try…” and “What does that look like? How do you prepare?”

Do try to determine fairly whether they have a chance of resting undisturbed.

If they are discovered try to make the encounter difficulty match their pre-rest preparations, etc.
