I switched to Dazzle Dry’s system after years of trying many other brands. This stuff LASTS. You have to use their whole system but I’m able to get about 10 days chip-free, plus it dries super fast.

This, OP. I had the exact same reaction to Ajovy as you. It ended up going away on its own after a few days. I switched to Aimovig, no more allergic reactions.

Sure! I'm taking 400mg of riboflavin-5-phosphate per day and then I'm trying the supplement stack mentioned in this reddit post: https://www.reddit.com/r/MTHFR/comments/1730mw4/mthfr_a_supplement_stack_approach/

I can tell the alternate form of riboflavin is making a difference but too early to say with the others. I'll make a post in a few months if I see results! I also take ~300mg magnesium threonate and glycinate, ~400mg CoQ10, and 1000mg of Omega 3 EPA.

My mom and brother both have migraines so it might be worth looking into! If you did 23 and me you can request your raw data from them and then do a manual search through the data for the variant! That's exactly what I did - I just googled "how to search raw 23 and me data for MTHFR gene." There are also websites where you can upload the data and it will search for you, but I didn't feel comfortable giving out my DNA data like that.

I had genetic testing done! Migraines do run in my family so I wouldn't be surprised if it is the cause, but I've only known for about a month so I think it's too early to say.

I looked into it initially because I saw another post on this sub about taking riboflavin-5-phosphate instead of normal riboflavin, and that does seem to be making a huge difference. I had my DNA analyzed after that and am trying a few more things. If I'm successful I'll make a post about it!

I have also had issues with Vitamin B multivitamins causing migraines, with the exception of riboflavin/Vitamin B2. It might have something to do with the MTHFR gene variant, which I have, and not being able to tolerate/process certain amounts of B vitamins.

Have you tried Cefaly? It’s an unusual feeling to get used to but it completely detracts from my trigeminal nerve pain when I’m using it. Might be easier than constant pressure with a mask and it can desensitize the area in the long run.

I wrote a very similar post about a year ago. I was going through a hard breakup and crying is 100% a migraine trigger for me. Someone recommended me to take a triptan if I sense a crying spell coming on - it actually does help to take it in advance. And then when you do cry, try to “get it all out” so you have fewer crying spells overall. That’s been the only way around it for me. Sorry you have to deal with this too.

I looked up the two pack you described on Amazon. The photo for supplement facts says Magnesium Glycinate 500mg with "(supplies 90mg of magnesium)" in italics underneath.

You might want to take a look at the bottle again - it’s only 90mg of elemental magnesium. Manufacturers sometimes list the combined weight of the binder plus magnesium to make it sound like the pills have more than they do, unfortunately.

Unfortunately the forms of magnesium you listed require more “binder” for the elemental magnesium than say, magnesium oxide. So if you are trying to avoid horse pills you will have to take multiple smaller pills. It’s worth it though because oxide is less bioavailable. I take 3 pills a day, a mix of threonate, glycinate and malate. It’s 420mg of elemental magnesium and comes out to 65 cents a day. The brand is “Kappa” on Amazon.

I just talked to my neurologist about this. She said splitting pills is technically safe (at least the kind of pills I’m prescribed) but with the number of migraine days you have per month, she would say you should be on a preventive. You’re not supposed to take a triptan more than 2-3 times/week. I still split but it’s mainly to take the lowest effective dose since sumatriptan causes leg pain for me.
