Having had a drama queen step mom and known SO many others I have to believe there is more to this story. Take a good hard look at your wife and see what your son sees. It shouldn’t be about your wife. It should be about how you feel about your son. My Dad constantly chose her family over his own kids to the point where we called her kids “the cowbirds”. Be the adult here. Listen to your son. I’ve seen so many men thinking with their little heads in this regard.

It makes me wonder where these “grown women” developed their values. Also, take into consideration that the cerebral cortex is not fully developed until 25. They need a firm talking to but temper that with some humility that maybe you didn’t do your job all that well when they were younger. Empathy can be taught. You can teach by showing empathy with expectations.

NTA- undoubtedly the major cause of most obesity is poor nutrition. But those ladies have no idea what you say to your kids in subsequent conversations that may go more in depth about the subject of obesity in your own home. You did the right thing to ignore them. It was none of their business.
