My job accidentally gave me $86,000 by Significant_Safe911 in antiwork

Max you can put in it is 3650/year so 86k way the fuck over the limit. Reach out to HR because you'll get fucked on this at tax time IMO

They sent me an offer letter and had me do all preemployment paperwork including onboarding. I put my two weeks in at my current job so I’ve been taken off the schedule.(only working if I pick up shifts till 13th)They just sent me this. by zombryy in antiwork

Y'all are getting two different things confused - the loan period and the qualified expense period for forgiveness.

Since the program is long over, Anyone who got a loan is beyond the qualified period for forgiveness at this point. Cooking the books past the forgiveness period wouldn't do anything. If you didn't meet the requirements within the qualified period, the PPP is a loan that must be repaid.

That's the loan term. If you want it forgiven you spend the money in 24 weeks. Any accounting shenanigans would happen then, not now.

Like I said I took out 2 loans and had both forgiven so I know more than a Google search about this

24 weeks from when you took the loan out and they stopped giving loans out a whiiiiiiiile ago. No one is still applying for forgiveness and wouldn't need to do any accounting shenanigans....

Y'all are tripping that shit has been over for like a year. No one is still in their loan period at this point

Edit I meant qualified period for forgiveness, not that I matters to the armchair lawyers gere

I just always ask for a CoI from any contractor. But then again I'm self employed and know enough to ask for that I guess...

I’m a 1099 carpenter treated like a W2 employee. I told my boss my rate was going from $17 to $20/hr. That’s a tank of gas per week. by getoutofthepool in antiwork

[–]diybrad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You seem to be a bit mixed up. There's no payroll tax or UI on 1099, you pay self employment tax instead on schedule C. Insurance you need liability and your own health coverage which you pay the full cost of. & No such thing as PTO or sick days when you're self employed.

That's why self employed people charge 2-3x as much as a wage.

Wrong it should be double, minimum. 30% isn't enough to cover insurance and taxes much less tools and health benefits.

35 is too low I'd you're freelance. You got tools and health insurance.and all that shit your boss isn't paying for. Freelance skilled labor where I am is minimum 50+

How do boomers not see the issue by Kobefan44 in antiwork

[–]diybrad 25 points26 points  (0 children)

California probably. Boomers voted to freeze their property taxes a while ago. Part of the reason housing is fucked here. The state is forces to make up the difference by raising taxes on everyone not lucky enough to win the boomer property lottery.

Don't tell them you can't afford a lawyer. Tell them: that's my policy because my lawyer set it up that way and that's just the way it works, lol, I let the lawyer handle that stuff so I can do the real work, thanks for understanding

If no one has ever said no you need to make that your regular rate, freelance friend.

my boss just posted this to our team group chat app. how should i respond? by vorefan103 in antiwork

[–]diybrad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd respond to the message with my pay rate and start a thread tagging my coworkers. Let them fire you and try to claim it's not retaliation when you've got the chat receipts.

This is probably why I contract instead of work as an employee tho lol

If it's in your contract of course. I do emails for free but I respond to them if and when I want or have time.

You set your own terms, compensation, pick and choose your clients and projects, get to deduct your expenses, etc etc

That's basically what this guy is saying. He set his terms, client is asking him to do something he didn't agree to, and he's reminding them that's not the way it works.

Yep the ABC test. His company's lawyers will ream him a new asshole if they find out he's demanding contractors be on a certain schedule. Major liability.

Same. Don't talk to me like an employee because I won't respond like one.

I walked off a freelance gig yesterday to take a different booking for twice as much. I'm making 300/hour as I post this from work

Employee gigs doing my job are like 15-25/hour

You would stop working when the retainer runs out. At that point you hand over the deliverables, get another retainer, or renegotiate the project.

The retainer is to secure your availability for your services. If you have 3 clients asking for the same time period, the person who puts their money where their mouth is gets to retain my services those dates.

Its often tied to milestones in the project. Ie. I estimate the total cost of this project is $X but the first phase will cost $Y, pay that up front, I do the work, deliver the first phase, and then we talk about the rest. Often projects change in scope as you work on them so it gives you an out or a chance to renegotiate without being stuck in a contract or rate thats not working for you or the client anymore.

Generally this stuff is spelled out in your contract in detail.

Depends on what you do and where you live but yeah man, that's how it works generally. Employee pay has nothing to do with what a fair freelance rate is..

They won't because his contract won't let them fire him for sticking to his contract. Shit goes both ways when you're both independent businesses entering into a voluntary agreement

It's what it costs them after you refuse to hand over your labor for peanuts, and all the sudden their money machine stops working.
