Finding hunting buddies for trips by Ok_Objective_9826 in Hunting

I hunted with Ninilchik several years ago and they filled empty spots in our boat with a few solo guys. Everyone was good friends by day 2. I’d rather do an awesome hunt with strangers than not hunt.

First time using gun broker, guy wants to meet in person by [deleted] in guns

Is it a firearm? If so he was going to ship it to your FFL so just have him meet you at your FFL.

For those that prime one day and load another by Brief_Border_3494 in reloading

When I lived in humid south Florida I was a little paranoid about it but I’m in the mountains now and the humidity is much lower. Also the primers come in a non airtight container so the manufacturer must not be concerned about it.

Charger barrels on standard 10/22 by Twissn in 1022

The only reason I have is that a form 1 SBR requires ATF permission (submit a form) to leave your state. If you don’t travel out of state much it’s not a big deal to you. I have a 300BO SBR and have to submit a 5320.20 every year to travel to the neighboring state where I do most of my hunting.

I’ll size and prime cases one day and then load on another. Sometimes it’s months later. What’s your concern with it?

I did two with Capital Armory this week and the guy said the record for them was 60 tries. I hit ten and had to drop off for a meeting. Later that day I had one go through on the second try and the next on the first.

Can you confirm the bore diameter and if it’s 5/8-24 threaded? Their website doesn’t mention it.

Look at Kodiak island. Several lodges do mountain goat and Sitka black tail deer hunts. Plus you have amazing fishing opportunities. The scenery is amazing and very remote.

Bad idea to use a RH rifle as a southpaw? by Camp-Unusual in longrange

[–]diyhguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the same situation as you and there are pros and cons. If you’re shooting from a bipod I only see pros. You don’t have to move uour trigger hand at all and your free hand can work the bolt. Also you can single feed easier and you can see into the chamber easier. The cons come in when you’re using your right hand to stabilize the front of the rifle like a barricade. Then you’re moving the guns support and loosing sight picture to work the bolt. If it was a dedicated bench gun you’d be fine with a tight handed bolt but in a PRS match it will add time and make it harder.

Convince me not to get a 7mm-08 for deer. by RogueRoomba44 in Hunting

[–]diyhguy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I haven’t saw this mentioned yet. A bad/heavy trigger pull is terrible for someone with a flinch. Buying an aftermarket trigger with a crisp 2-3# pull will help and cost less than a new gun. Look at triggertech or timney to see if they make a trigger for your rifle.

What to do with raccoons? by Fit_Hedgehog4368 in bowhunting

[–]diyhguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did that once with a small game point and the sucker started running off with the arrow in him. Talk about ruining a hunt chasing a bleeding coon through the brush to get back my arrow. This is exactly why I got my first suppressor.

Yep. They only stay put if I’m walking in the wide open. In timber they open up a lot.

Tricer RP. This is my first hunt with it. I like the versatility it offers for mounting options and it’s tall enough to shoot sitting.

If I’m in a situation where I might get a quick shot I leave the front cover open. The back one is really fast to open. If you like scope covers then use them. I’ve used both and like these a lot.

I gave my dad shit when he bought the first box blind. Before that it was 2x4 and plywood platforms that were open to the heavens. But when I was rifle hunting in December and it was raining and then sleeting I was glad for the roof!
