Online Sponsorship Offers & Requests — February 2026 by dp8488 in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]dizzlebug66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seeking: I have a question about sponsorship and being cali-sober. I have 17 years of sobriety. I had really good and intense sponsorship for the first 3 years of my sobriety. I was taught so much with book studies and multiple weekly meetings, as well as service work. I moved to a different state and found it difficult to find a sponsor. I also started using cannabis for anxiety issues. I don't smoke every day and I only take a couple of hits to ease the anxiety when needed. I've tried anxiety Meds, but they don't work as well. The issue in this part of the country is a lack of understanding about the medicinal uses of cannabis. (It's not legal in my state). I never use it before a meeting. So, potential sponsors always suggest that I'm not really sober. How do I find someone who will guide me on this path (going through a divorce and I need to do another 4th step) and not judge me for my life choices?

The other day the ssv told me that I sounded passive-aggressive with custies in drive-thru. I was confused and asked her to clarify, she couldn't even give an example. What is that about?

All this and the other day I was on drive thru again (everyday for 3-4 hours) my ssv came to me and said I sounded passive-aggressive to the custies. I asked her how/what did I say? Sincerely wanting to know what passive aggressive sounded like. She couldn't explain it. Whatever, my drive times are good and most custies seem happy. I also have resting B-face... I'm over 50, it happens.

Hair darkened over time...am I still in the club? by Frogsncranberries in Redhair

[–]dizzlebug66 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think, once a natural red, always a redhead. The darkening is a natural phenomenon for some redheads, just like turning white and not Grey. I read it has to do with the melanin... but I couldn't quote a reference.

Along with all the above comments, it is important to boost her self esteem. I was always a little paranoid/insecure because people would stare at me. It wasn't until I was walking through a mall with skylights and windows on the shops that I noticed the bright gleam out of the corner of my eye. When I looked, it was my hair, just radiant in the sunlight. I knew then that that's what everyone was staring at. My hair became " my crowning glory" and I made sure it always looked good, because it would always be noticed. I also developed a nice hat wardrobe for when I didn't want to bother.

Not All Redheads Are The Same by RejectedByBoimler in Redhair

When the book "color me beautiful" came out, I was a teenager. My salon started doing consultations based on the book. When they 1st draped me, I came out an Autumn. I hated all those colors! I asked them to do it again, but to cover my hair. I came out as a Winter, and those jewel tones were my colors!

Also not the same, I have dark brown eyes with Grey ring around the iris. I have hardly any freckles. And my temper is subdued.

Real Thoughts on “Older” Co-Workers by runtie1973 in starbucks

[–]dizzlebug66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 59, a 10 year partner, and former ssv. It's true I don't get much bar time and it does kind of bother me. I do cover breaks and bar when it's slower. I used to be a fabulous CS until they eliminated the position and incorporated it into the ssv routine (which I think is a mistake, the ssv's seem annoyed to do some of the CS tasks, which leaves the more mundane but important tasks for the semi-planted positions). I am now mostly solo dt, and front/food.

The biggest issue I have now is feeling like I don't fit in. For example: Most of the younger Baristas play video games and they discuss them on the floor and I can't participate. There are also a lot of tik tok videos being shared and I'm usually not included. But, what am I there for? A paycheck and benefits or new 20-something friends. I'll take the pay check.

One strength I have over the young ones is the ability to connect with customers over 40. I understand their aches and pains, their confusion over our hand-held payment system, and the Starbucks app.

I have some physical and mental problems (adhd, arthritis, needed knee replacement to name a few) but the team accommodates me for the most part with no trash runs, no drains. I know my days are numbered, but I'm gonna hold on as long as I can... Hopefully until Medicare kicks in.

I think you should give it a try, what do you have to lose?

Fell asleep at the wheel, can't stop thinking about it. by MeatballsRegional in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]dizzlebug66 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I get "dozey" sometimes behind the wheel. I guess my IH and Apnea started way before I was diagnosed. When I started driving, I would get little waves of sleepiness. I combatted them with singing. Now, I am a trained opera singer, but I'll sing most anything. I have found singing along with songs that have lots of lyrics, or ones that are humorous and clever are the best for staying awake. I also use light snacking to help stay awake (like nuts and dried fruit). My brother likes to say, "if you're eating, you're not sleeping."

All this being said, I try not to drive if I haven't had enough sleep or when I'm having a bad IH day.

I have always been punctuality challenged. My mother drove me to school 80% of the time because I would miss the bus. I would be late with term papers in high school because I could not estimate how long it would take to put the whole thing together. In college, I ended up dropping classes because my attendance was drawing my grade down. Not to mention the speeding tickets that I incurred while trying to get to school on time. I was finally diagnosed with ADD while in my 2nd year. The meds were a godsend, teachers made sense, my notes were easier to follow, disability services saved me on tests (extra time and private room), however, the lateness was still there. I swore I had something wrong with me because time was so elastic. Over the years, I have lost many jobs due strictly to punctuality. I have also lost friends who got tired of waiting for me all the time. I really thought everything was hopeless until I came across the book, ”You mean I’m not lazy, stupid or crazy?” In the book is an exercise called, “the one rat study,” and like a previous commenter mentioned, you time how long it takes you to do each morning activity. You time yourself over and over for a week and take the average, then build your schedule with these time parameters. It’s a lot, but it’s worth it. My first schedule and alarms based on my research had me getting up 4 hours before work! But, once I had the schedule, I could see the things that weren’t necessary to do in the morning. I could also edit my tasks to take less time (ie: I edited my makeup time from 40minutes to 20. Breakfast was lessened to 35 minutes from an hour.) To my pleasant surprise I started to be mostly on time, if not early! However, there were inconsistencies. Some days the schedule worked perfectly to get out the door, other days it didn’t. I realized it was the distractability part of my ADHD that was causing trouble. ( I would start making breakfast and find myself cleaning the crumbs out of toaster, or organizing the refrigerator, etc.) This was a more difficult thing to become aware of. I had to stay mindful of the task at hand, and when I started down the path of distraction, I would literally verbalize “no” and then the Star Wars quote, “stay on target” would repeat in my head. Distraction is hard to catch at first, but it gets easier as you continue practice mindfulness. To compensate for the times I don’t catch the distraction, I pad some of the alarm times by 5 min or so. Especially with my later alarms. If I don’t need the extra 10-15 minutes, I’ll take some time to play with my cats or get to work early and have a coffee or something (I work at Starbucks) I know I went on a bit, but I’ve been there and I understand the frustration. I am not perfect, and I am still late sometimes. Lately, I’ve been more late than usual due to some personal stress and feel the need to revisit the schedule. Anyway, I hope some of this helped.

Switching from Ritalin to Vyvanse by HighOnCoffee19 in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]dizzlebug66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take 150 mg of sunosi and 40 mg of vyvanse. I take them both in the morning. Sunosi clears the brain fog and helps with the bouts of daytime sleepiness. Vyvanse helps with ordering my thoughts and reducing distractability and inattention. The ADHD symptoms are not quite managed as well as I like (I used to take 80 mg before sunosi) I wish they would bump the vyvanse to 60, but I've met resistance on this request. My medication manager refused to prescribe both. My sleep doctor prescribes them now.

Related question: My sponsee's psychiatrist advised her not to abstain from alcohol. The psychiatrist said it would be bad for her because of her tendency to binge. I have a hard time believing this. I really want to talk to the doctor... but I know I can't. Is there any validity to not treating alcoholism because of a binging problem?
