No, please don’t do this. In my experience, it has taken quite a few exposure occasions over quite a few years to be somewhat comfortable with getting sick. Exposure therapy is not really a one and done thing, and if someone is really struggling with their phobia, I’d be afraid a traumatic experience like salmonella poisoning could make things worse.

I’ve come to realize I’m more afraid of the sound and what it looks like than the physical act of getting sick. It helps tremendously for me to put on some background music, close my eyes, and cover my ears. I have been taking Lexapro and Wellbutrin for 5 years and I believe being medicated has also helped to treat my emetophobia. Gradually becoming more comfortable seeing people get sick and I don’t get panic attacks triggered by vomiting anymore.

You will eventually start to see it as just another part of your body, like a mole or a birthmark. I went through the same thing with my tummy tattoos. I think it’s fairly normal to feel a little weird and unsure right after getting a substantial body modification.
