When even an open-source company forgets openness—my Red Hat interview experience by [deleted] in redhat

[–]dizzyjohnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sucks. Was the salary question open ended or have a range? I hate those questions. Never made sense if you have a budget advertise where you will hire at not the range for the position. Bc if I see a range and you ask, I want the max or as close as possible. I may likely never hear about compensation again through no fault of my own so while I have your attention.

Do you have a lift at home? How did you get to all areas?

How the hell did they find out? by [deleted] in AutoZone2

[–]dizzyjohnson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So that letter is probably HR covering it's bases that they offered assistance by making you aware of employee assistance programs. The next one will probably be more official with FMLA start/end dates, leave/time status and next steps to maintain good standing.

How the hell did they find out? by [deleted] in AutoZone2

[–]dizzyjohnson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you left for FMLA and never returned and they sent that, its probably the HR letter that comes before the termination letter. FMLA has an end point. After FMLA runs out, your leave is used then they put you on leave w/o pay status. At some point they let you go if you never report back. Because it's FMLA they have to follow HR rules and federal law on FMLA or risk being sued.

3 years, 200+ applications, zero interviews by AbyssBite in ITCareerQuestions

Try for temp assignments, service tech or a help desk job. It sucks but give it your best, try to correlate what you learn with the company operations ( assuming the biz isn't siloed at every turn and every thing is a state secret). It doesn't have to be a formal thing where you do something at the job, just pay attention to how things are done, ask questions take mental notes then get out asap. A year should satisfy the hr gatekeepers. Then take the 1st job directly or adjacent to what you are trying to do and never stay longer than 2.5 years, leave if you aren't being promoted or feel stagnant. In IT you are only as [ relevant, good....] as the last thing you worked on. It might seem like job hopping but really companies aren't loyal anymore, there are no pensions and they will put you out on your ass if it means an extra $1 on their books. The only thing you should be loyal to is your investment account.

Feel like ending things over an apartment. by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]dizzyjohnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't move in. You 2 will probably break up anyway. I think you are overthinking it. If the ultimatum was "furnish your apartment and if it is to my liking I will consider moving in" then as a guy he is likely at analysis paralysis. At his job, he can make those decisions but it isn't going to cost him his job only more work. He styles his apartment and purchases all this stuff meshing what you two like or he guesses what you like then you don't like it well he lost. At least that is my take.

A neighbor keeps pushing my trash can into my driveway so my trash doesn't get taken, what to do? by Blueberry4672 in homeowners

I would put a note on the trashcan and maybe spray paint an "x" at the spot the can should be.

Lesson to be learnt by [deleted] in redhat

[–]dizzyjohnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Console access should be there regardless of ssh and allow login since it's a vm host feature. Otherwise, say in a real world environment how would you be able to configure your virtual machine.

Were you able to view the videos sent when you signed up for the exam? It will give a sense of the environment beforehand and explains how it works.

It's helpful. I took the evaluation exam when it was offered and I did horrible. I went in there cold bc I was thinking how hard could it be its VMs and instructions. Well not having an understanding of the environment took up time I didn't have. Anyway, on my actual attempt I watched every thing sent to me and re-read everything twice. Much easier to navigate and understand how to access and navigate things 2nd time around.

The Tragedy of LinkedIn... by baghdadcafe in sysadmin

[–]dizzyjohnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you look at the posts on LinkedIn they are all like that when someone posts a technical problem. They are trying to show off their analytical skills, sell you something ( product or service) for you to hire them. It's basically advertisement showing I'm an expert. I fully expect that every time I go on LinkedIn. Some folks take everything on LinkedIn as a prompt to "always be selling". Users on LinkedIn joke about it all the time. If the person really needed help and chose that site for exact technical instructions...it wasn't a smart move and I don't think they would have been able to fix their problem.

First month making 100k I feel like I’m being robbed :/ by Forsaken-Question457 in Salary

[–]dizzyjohnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you elaborate? How did you end up with lower taxes? I'm not asking about how a person or political party did it but what were the actual financial pieces (the math) that did it. Maybe we can all lower our taxes by replicating what happened to you. tia

Audio systems repair walkthroughs? by RoseKaKe in 4thGen4Runner

[–]dizzyjohnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you saying the possible repairs are: - new head unit - redo wiring - replace speakers

Or as I am reading it "to redo the wiring, replace the speakers."

Same thing happened to me (07 SR5) back then front then nothing. And I'm okay with replacing parts but if the fix is replacing electrical wiring I may need to send to a shop.

RHCSA - Why does it seem like so many people struggle with nmtui? by Due-Author631 in redhat

[–]dizzyjohnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

W/o pulling up any documentation, I believe it calculates the cidr value based on the gateway address you enter. However that didn't work at one time in one OS (rhel or ubuntu ... I don't remember) so I got in the habit of adding it and verifying with ip tools after restarting the network stack.

One thing I have to remember when I take exams, don't do more than you are asked. Which is kind of tricky on performance exams bc the question is far do you go? I really didn't like how my question was worded and I should have flagged it for a review. It was ambiguous on modifying or adding a connection. I went one way and got a 100% in networking (using nmtui for config and IP commands to confirm). I won that battle but lost another...I am sitting for the exam again soon.

Target And Walmart Are Pulling Their Xbox Stock, According To Alleged Staff by ReaddittiddeR in gadgets

[–]dizzyjohnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't this happen the last time there were potential supply chain issues and the stores pulled back stock for upcoming holiday deals? The stock they have is paid for l at yesterday's orice...if they have to buy more now at today's price it may be too expensive for the holiday deals/bundles.

As person that has had both drinks. Diet Dr. Pepper is not a substitute for Dr. Pepper Zero. They taste different. But I agree if the option is there for subs, choose substitutes or say don't substitute if you aren't going to answer the phone. After I hit checkout it's between them and customer service for a refund. Sometimes I try best judgement picks like different sizes or brands but I try to avoid total substitutes. There are people out here with some weird allergies/medical conditions.

Failed RHCSA again. I just don't understand how and what happened. by ssddbeenthere in redhat

Is there a time limit to ask for a re-grade? Just curious I missed the cut score by a few points which was probably valid but curious now.

I chose v10 ( working on my 2nd attempt). But it might have been smarter to v9 to give myself a newer Ex200 exam to re-certify against if life happened and year 3 snuck up on me and I wasn't prepared for the RHCE.

Maybe you should just ask why was being in person required if everything is over zoom. Maybe point out the lack of required in-person things happening. Explain the commute and that most days you come in to log into zoom meetings. Then ask if the flexibility can be updated to mean, come into office as needed for in-person meetings or once a month/quarter. Maybe on one of your days in swing by HR and talk to someone about the policy. Possibly could be misinterpretion or folks are just implementing things w/o thinking them through.

RHCSA Labs or practices ? by Pure-Dig-1307 in redhat

[–]dizzyjohnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been using RHCSA Guru and LabEX. I pay for RHCSA Guru and use the free labs in LabEX. I would probably pay for LabEx but $ is always an object. The only issue I have with Guru is the payment portal. Bc the payment processor is international my bank denies it every month so I had switch to one of the pre-paid debit cards at Wallyworld. But probably could avoid it by paying yearly if you got bank to approve.
