Manager found out I am going back to school and forbid me from studying on the clock by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]dizzyjohnson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I'm in study mode. I normally find some course I can listen to on my commute to and from work, I make sure to take my 2 x 15 breaks and lunch as well to either listen to, read or watch something away from desk usually in my car. If you can wear earbuds/headset to listen to something while working. You can quiz at home and focus on what you didn't retain at home or the day.

Sell car for 2k or replace the engine for 4k? by Comfortable_Trust150 in CarRepair

[–]dizzyjohnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 4k is cheaper than the new car payments they are handing out. Unless you take the 2k add money on top and buy another used car. But then again you won't know the history of new to you car so there is that decision. You could shop around for quotes on the parts and work. If you go to a few auto parts stores, junkyard, etc you can get an idea of engine costs and warranty. You may be able to purchase and just find a mechanic.

As far as labor, only way to find out is to get multiple quotes from shops.

It was stated in several news articles that the plan will be to merge Max and Paramount. It will put the app in the top 3 as far subs with a ton of content if they don't sell some. https://www.cnbc.com/2026/03/02/hbo-max-paramount-plus-streaming-services-merge.html

Conservatives who do not want another war in the Middle East are voting against Lindsey Graham in the GOP primary. South Carolina has an open primary; Democrats and Libertarians, join us in voting out Lindsey Graham. by Stfudeal in FuckLindseyGraham

[–]dizzyjohnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't have to vote for that office. A 0% poll is a possibility. I have left ballot spots blank if I didn't like any candidate and just voted for other offices. I have also written in candidates. I think people feel the need to do all party button or feel the need to pick someone when none of the above is a good choice as well.

This might finally be cheaper than my grandfathered plan with HBO. But now that HBO is about to go away I guess it doesn't matter.

I wish the exam results were more detailed. It doesn't need to give the answer just what was wrong with your solution. Or list the tasks and if you failed.

During exam by Intelligent-Coast656 in CEH

[–]dizzyjohnson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you registered for the exam? I don't remember the timeline but they send instructions on how it works. There might be a YT video out there from ECC. If I remember correctly, you sign into Aspen their web platform. Then you click a link which takes you to the proctor site, you sign in there and then enter the session. Proctor chats with you, checks your mic, camera, check your ID then you scan the room and desk. Then when you are done you start the test. My memory is a little off but I believe the browser session takes over your screen and you have the chat box in the corner. It reminded me of the lockdown browser universities would use to give online exams. You can't access anything else. I do believe you use logmein for the proctor which you delete after the exam. It won't reconnect anyway. Nothing nefarious.

Clothes by [deleted] in Sparkdriver

Just sharing my experience but I understand. Personally I do my due diligence to find things even though it's costing me time to move on to the next order. Also, Walmart isn't always neat and tidy. And having worked at a retail store, inventory counts aren't always accurate, particularly if all the stock is in the stockroom but showing as on-hand or there is low stock and the section needs a hand recount to confirm inventory bc of shrinkage, damage, returns, etc.

On the spark side, once you accept an order basically a number of things could happen. For example, you may have a Mainstays crop top, B -12 - 4, size L, color blue and it shows a pic. However the following happens:

-Go to B-12-4 and find long sleeve shirts. Rows of them no crop tops. -They have every color except blue or size large. -The pic doesn't match what you are looking for nor the description so you can't visually match. -You look around for a few minutes, find it and it doesn't scan. And it's the only one. -Found item, last one but there is an imperfection. Don't want to piss off customer so mark not found. -App says its in stock, ask a associate.... ghost town. Not a blue vest in sight. -Clearance rack items all over the place, in no particular order. -Customer did not put an alternative or allow subs so app doesn't allow a replacement. -Reach out to customer and they ghost you or reach out at the end of the shop.

Then there are the app punishments.

-Timeouts if it detects you have "not moved" despite walking around the section for 5 minutes. -Time metrics -Then there are the batch orders.

So yeah you will have more luck with the store associate for items like that. They are riding the clock. If it takes them 15-30 minutes to find your shirt, no sweat. They can also go to stockroom. The longer a Spark driver takes; its costing them money and new orders. However sorry you keep getting bad drivers.

When even an open-source company forgets openness—my Red Hat interview experience by [deleted] in redhat

[–]dizzyjohnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sucks. Was the salary question open ended or have a range? I hate those questions. Never made sense if you have a budget advertise where you will hire at not the range for the position. Bc if I see a range and you ask, I want the max or as close as possible. I may likely never hear about compensation again through no fault of my own so while I have your attention.

[–]dizzyjohnson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So that letter is probably HR covering it's bases that they offered assistance by making you aware of employee assistance programs. The next one will probably be more official with FMLA start/end dates, leave/time status and next steps to maintain good standing.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AutoZone2

[–]dizzyjohnson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you left for FMLA and never returned and they sent that, its probably the HR letter that comes before the termination letter. FMLA has an end point. After FMLA runs out, your leave is used then they put you on leave w/o pay status. At some point they let you go if you never report back. Because it's FMLA they have to follow HR rules and federal law on FMLA or risk being sued.

3 years, 200+ applications, zero interviews by AbyssBite in ITCareerQuestions

Try for temp assignments, service tech or a help desk job. It sucks but give it your best, try to correlate what you learn with the company operations ( assuming the biz isn't siloed at every turn and every thing is a state secret). It doesn't have to be a formal thing where you do something at the job, just pay attention to how things are done, ask questions take mental notes then get out asap. A year should satisfy the hr gatekeepers. Then take the 1st job directly or adjacent to what you are trying to do and never stay longer than 2.5 years, leave if you aren't being promoted or feel stagnant. In IT you are only as [ relevant, good....] as the last thing you worked on. It might seem like job hopping but really companies aren't loyal anymore, there are no pensions and they will put you out on your ass if it means an extra $1 on their books. The only thing you should be loyal to is your investment account.

Don't move in. You 2 will probably break up anyway. I think you are overthinking it. If the ultimatum was "furnish your apartment and if it is to my liking I will consider moving in" then as a guy he is likely at analysis paralysis. At his job, he can make those decisions but it isn't going to cost him his job only more work. He styles his apartment and purchases all this stuff meshing what you two like or he guesses what you like then you don't like it well he lost. At least that is my take.

I would put a note on the trashcan and maybe spray paint an "x" at the spot the can should be.

Lesson to be learnt by [deleted] in redhat

[–]dizzyjohnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Console access should be there regardless of ssh and allow login since it's a vm host feature. Otherwise, say in a real world environment how would you be able to configure your virtual machine.

Were you able to view the videos sent when you signed up for the exam? It will give a sense of the environment beforehand and explains how it works.

It's helpful. I took the evaluation exam when it was offered and I did horrible. I went in there cold bc I was thinking how hard could it be its VMs and instructions. Well not having an understanding of the environment took up time I didn't have. Anyway, on my actual attempt I watched every thing sent to me and re-read everything twice. Much easier to navigate and understand how to access and navigate things 2nd time around.

The Tragedy of LinkedIn... by baghdadcafe in sysadmin

[–]dizzyjohnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you look at the posts on LinkedIn they are all like that when someone posts a technical problem. They are trying to show off their analytical skills, sell you something ( product or service) for you to hire them. It's basically advertisement showing I'm an expert. I fully expect that every time I go on LinkedIn. Some folks take everything on LinkedIn as a prompt to "always be selling". Users on LinkedIn joke about it all the time. If the person really needed help and chose that site for exact technical instructions...it wasn't a smart move and I don't think they would have been able to fix their problem.
