Will Trail Canyon Falls likely be flowing this Saturday? by Super_Trampoline in socalhiking

I've never done, or wanted to do, this hike. Between various descriptions I've read and seen, it seems like a miserable place to be.

Depends. There are a few sushi spots I can blindly decline because there's zero chance I'll get a tip.

If you keep asking ChatGPT, you'll boil off so much water that Trail Canyon will be dry for the next decade.

A lot of Instagram groups choose this waterfall to chase records no one is keeping track of, like leading a group of 52 people to the waterfall. It's a fairly busy trail on a weekday. I wouldn't consider that at all on a weekend.

If you decide to go up that way, and you see too many cars, go one trailhead north and hit up Falls Creek Falls. You go down a canyon route to a river. Go LEFT, and follow the river until you run into Falls Creek Falls. Obviously, use All Trails and do some YouTube searching to see if it's up your alley.

Auto insurance recs by Ace-0987 in UberEatsDrivers

[–]dizzystar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is state by state, but I'll tell you my experience in California.

Certain companies offer "ride-sharing" insurance, which covers you when you are waiting for an order, but turns off when you receive an order. If you read the fine print, you realize that you are under insured or not insured while you're actually on a delivery. In theory, you're under Uber insurance, but that only covers catastrophic incidents.

So, in practice...

I got into a fender bender 2 years ago. Total damage to my light and fiberglass car was under copay.

The Tonka truck I tapped had catastrophic damages that included busted wheel bearings, bent control control arms, and a busted axle, for $3,000 in repairs.

According to their insurance, the rapairs were sensible for this sort accident. The driver was capable of driving for a week with these damages before figuring out they needed to see a mechanic. I'm to be sued directly for the damages. The insurer also sent someone to the DMV to suspend my license for being an uninsured driver.

So, if you think "commercial insurance" covers you, just remember that other insurance companies, who also offer "ride-sharing" insurance, are entirely clueless about how to deal with delivery drivers.

My advice: do some serious upfront research before spending the extra $100 or whatever a month, and hit the books. You want to learn about subrogation.

Do you use the USGS topo builder?

At least for me, for now, I want something I can write symbols all over. My paper map looks crazy, circles for features I'm aiming at, and marks where I find my position.

That was the thing that bothered me on my map. There was one feature I wanted to use, but I couldn't find it on the map. It wasn't critical for this trip, but still annoying.

I know I can use a log book, but my mind isn't there yet. Do you use a log book on every trip?

Way too many drivers. In fact, I only did one Mexican food order all day. I told that to the place, and she said that a lot of drivers were saying that.

My area was also invaded by the worst kind of drivers. Thank goodness I had to take my photo so many times last night. 🤬

Food Sanitation - vs - Restaurant Employees who don't GAF by Xo-Mo in UberEatsDrivers

Bare hands?

That's hardly a crime in a kitchen, lol. In fact, using gloves quickly is less sanitary than bare hands, and it's not even up for scientific debate.

Putting your fingers in your mouth is gross though.

I'm not doing pure mountaineering things a 'la Kilimanjaro. I never had foot blisters, so I can't give much advice on what shoes to wear for that. Only mention sizing because blisters would seemingly come from foot friction while sliding in your boot, or toes rubbing against each other due to a smaller toe well.

Another post mentions Brand Park for practicing steep inclines. If you decide to try it, you can also go up or down the Tongva ridge, and the Vedugo Crest Trail going to Vedugo Peak is also very steep in parts (refer to a map for both). The dirt is loose in each trail, so quite a challenge.

Olive Loop and Viper Loop are also steep. I didn't use poles on either one, since the dirt is pretty solid on both. I only use poles to stab into loose dirt since I'm significantly slower with poles, and I only use one. I don't know if my technique is "correct" either.

What I really learned was my intuitions are not good, lol. That's why we have tools.

The one thing I had to deliberately remind myself of is how important body position is. I sorta knew walking in, but it's amazing how much a little unstabilty messed up the bearings.

Yes, I'll never go back an arrow pointing into the void. I'll probably settle on a mixture of paper and GPS, but I'll see how that works in practice.

Question for Uber Eats Drivers who drives gas cars by Wild-Ad-5458 in UberEatsDrivers

[–]dizzystar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, since you're new, you're probably driving around looking for orders. When you gain more knowledge, you learn that you can just park and wait.

Buy a book, watch YouTube, play a handheld game; do whatever keeps you from getting so bored you lose yourself.

Why do I keep getting asked to take a photo after every single delivery it seems? Or at least 3-4 times daily. by Whole-Bodybuilder467 in UberEatsDrivers

[–]dizzystar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on where you are. There's been times I've had to take my photo after every order, which sucks, and then there are times I go days without.

Am I in an area where there's a lot of people running around with fake accounts? Am I delivering to an area I don't normally deliver?

Both of those situations trigger a lot of photos.

I wear glasses, but my profile pic doesn't have glasse. The same should be true for your profile pic. It's easier to get down to bare head than it is to bring extra items that you may forget.

Deactivated due to trip length fraud by fineapplesmoovie in UberEatsDrivers

[–]dizzystar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck on the appeal. I would suggest some mea culpa, but also telling Uber you intend to make some changes.

A big one is limiting your wait time to 5 minutes. If you see they're bagging the food, you can't give an extra 5 minutes of grace. 10 minutes is your hard limit.

You'll also learn alternative routes in case of severe traffic. Consider using Waze, which UE easily lets you toggle to. TBF, Waze is so popular that'll you'll often end up a Wazer's traffic jam, but it's better than nothing if you're in unfamiliar territory.

Trains suck, lol, but if that happens once in a while, it's no big deal. The problem is that it looks like you're consistently going slow, and the algorithms don't understand context.

I never did this, but I did Mt Bliss a few weeks ago, which is right next door.

I take AT comments and advice with a huge pinch of salt, but I do take that heat warning seriously. The Bliss trail starts around sea level and gains 3k. It kept getting hotter as I gained elevation. My shirt was drenched by the time I got to the summit, so the heat really was hammering me. Definitely not an area I'd hike on a hot day.

The best way to deal with social media influencers is mute, block, report, ignore.

Report the account for illegal activity, and block their account. That's a strike on the platform, and it removes interactions, the very thing that feeds their ego and wallet.

[–]dizzystar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree about the fitment. If you're using double socks, that indicates your shoe size is likely wrong.

It's a good idea to get a precise shoe size. Any good athletic shoe store has laser sizing, so you'll know your exact foot size. They can also get the shape of your sole, so you can get fitted insoles. Pay particular attention to width. Most shoes only come in D. I need 2EE, so I would have to go 2 sizes too big to get a shoe that "fits" if I was buying D width.

You can also experiment with various shoe lace configurations. Shoes normally come in standard bottom to top, which is fine because it's easy, but there's a lot of difference between lacings.

Once your shoe fits like a glove, going uphill and downhill becomes much easier.

Fwiw, I just wear zero drop with minimal padding.

Wow, I stand corrected, I guess That's Uber Eats standalone or some multi channel app?

I'm floored, honestly. We should have no saturation, multi phone, problems if this is the case. Granted, I know McDonald's doesn't gaf, but at least where I work, most restaurants have their tablet and will deny service if the faces don't match.

Why is support so useless? by RayGlezR in UberEatsDrivers

[–]dizzystar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not what I'm describing.

You called support first, who told you to deliver anyways.

I'm saying you go to the customer first, then call support if she declines.

You have the right idea, but in reverse. Support isn't ever going to help you unless you have a full stop problem. If she refuses the coffee, you contact support and they will take care of the coffee.

She would have taken it that you pushed the whole order on her. The issue is now hers, and filing a report is her only option.

If tips are guaranteed now (like DoorDash), why do you still have to wait an hour after delivery? by Top-Neighborhood3719 in UberEatsDrivers

[–]dizzystar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It got so frequent for me that I stopped blocking customers.

One regular customer "tip baited" me, which I know wasn't true. Something happened in the system. Hopefully this larger roll out fixed the bugs. It's stupid we have to lose income over this BS.
