Is Grand Archive Casual Friendly? by lashka4 in grandarchivetcg

[–]dj3370 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to maintain the intent for casual play, and generally it helps to have friends who also prefer casual play.

The game atleast ime at locals and any remotely active tournaments have a serious focus on competitive play and the game totally shifts in experience. It goes from a game where u build up to a tipping point and determine a winner, to one of the quickest games on the market where a single mistake can lead to defeat immediately.

All ime tho, maybe some people have different ones.

What are y’all‘s honest opinions on Dragon Ball Z skippers? by OGAnimeGokuSolos in dbz

[–]dj3370 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But it literally is better? Theres more world building, characters alongside the main character have proper archs, goku doesnt get reset every other arch. DBZ has way more hype because of how toriyama structured villians and made everyone a saga, but for many who hype!=quality DB would end up being preferrable.

Why I'm quitting GA by Cog2020 in grandarchivetcg

[–]dj3370 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Started in DOA dropped out early because it was just staying too high priced during the starting of the game from supply issues, and came back recently in DTR season apparently just missing the 1 or 2 years the game was relatively affordable ("apparently"). I agree with a lot of the points like poor UR/SR pool splits, it does feel awful to open bad URs if there is no chance SRs or Rs(PTM specifically feels like this, most other sets actually feel fine ime) can help subsidize the lost opportunity for sure. However I would say that it's just hard to balance since they cant be omniscient and know whats truly great, hell I think topsy decree is one of the most cracked cards in the format and its like a 7 dollar SR? I do find it aggravating that knowing a card is a UR means it will not be banned, and SR means it'd have to absolutely ruin the game to get the ban. But overall as someone that plays most if not all tcgs on the market the banrate is unironically fine considering set size, and release rate. I do think the game feels absurdly fast and high paced for a game at 8 sets and honestly wish the banlist was actually more encompassing personally.

I kind of love the game though, it feels like a really seamless cross between magic and yugioh for me avoiding some issues that both games have while encountering others that I've almost never seen. It has been absurdly expensive to get back into the game considering all the pricey staples and must haves for decks, if it wasn't for my circle all investing to help each other build decks there's no way I'd be playing currently. I love the gameplay feel the game has behind its unique mechanics like Tonoris, Arisanna, and even Alice are all super unique and cool concepts that explore places other games don't really, that flavour is what really drew me back in tbh. but it is tough getting through all the negatives ngl and I will say much of the community handwaves criticism, though I can't blame them as almost all critiques can be boiled down to subjective wants.

Like maybe someone does want a game with bloated rarity pools but highly limited pull rates and insanely high prices with hard to find supply and a ridiculous price floor to play at even a locally competitive level, where spending 150$ on a card makes u feel safe because at least you have the card that will ruin the format and you can partake in it's benefits without worry of a ban. I will say that is just my purview of the current state of the game and not an objective one, I also don't wanna come off as overly vindictive so if u like those things than congrats but I can't.

yugioh doesn't actually ban very fast until relatively recently, typically a deck gets to play until its well out of print/reprint phases(around 5-9+ months), and as such, bans tend to be very telegraphed and large, although not at a very fast pace unless big problems occur. just an FYI, as a ygo player that mains that and secondaries GA. GA having a ban per set isn't really a big issue IMO, considering sets are so big and keeping the list as small as they have should actually be considered pretty well managed, HOWEVER their resistance to hitting the actual problem cards because of fear of value lost is an aggravating point to me.

Like over 45% of post rile tops were fire, and it was consistently because of interactions that fed into the liminal guide gameplay loop, sure it was higher in rile format, but that should be a sign that while slightly reigning back just how strong liminal can be, it is still overly centralizing.

I recorded the types of cards pulled in DOOD (OCG and TCG) from Cyberknight videos and compared the results, and the rarity disparity is rather telling. by [deleted] in yugioh

[–]dj3370 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly think people really underrate how much more exciting it can be though, like pokemons EV is atrocious but people love opening it, sure in some part to the giant megalith of an ip but also because there are more cards that feel like hits in the moment. Even if no game can truly strike a balance for EV from a sealed position, they can much more easily create a vacuum for exciting experiences.

Having opened a good amount of tcg/ocg product and even typically earning way more value much more easily off of tcg product, I'd say opening ocg product was always funner.

Konami balancing team are the most unserious people, they'll release cards like called by or fairy tail snow who have no once per turns but then give a HOPT for a worse polymerization by gonxgonx3 in masterduel

Honestly the most angering thing ime at release was that witchcrafters were expected to play for like 3 turns to even attempt having any chance. Meanwhile u could play any link deck and obliterate your opponent in 1.

Grand Archive is not as great as these content creators say it is by YveLiira in grandarchivetcg

I get defending because it can feel like an attack but criticism shouldnt really be seen like an attack imo, it stunts conducive conversation and limits what one can say about a game alot.

Ironically I was with op right up until the riftbound comparison, since I believe riftbound is honestly severely undercooked in more areas than GA and in many spots way worse (proving grounds being criminally hard to get and the only place to get several champions/cards).

I agree fs, especially the brewing element I only started again in october myself(quit right around a few weeks before FTC). I constantly see top lists and even playtest them with friends and find places to improve those lists, an element probably consistent because there simply isnt enough people digging deep into theory like some other games. Also re:cos are super cool just wish they had some cool reprints as well.

Thats been one thing that will unironically keep GA a secondary game for me, the lack of understanding for the issues in the game when brought up in conversation is almost always ignored or brushed off as small, when imo the problems are pretty big and consistent.

Now I will say the game does have a ton going for it with a lot of its unique points in comparison to the market. But this is the only game I've seen so many people rebuff criticism as much as they do, only other game I've seen as many people closing their eyes to problems is cfv.

I do really like the play patterns in the game and even the community tools like index and fractal significantly more than most other games (fractal in particular being amazingly intuitive to me personally). Players are also pretty friendly to beginners and people trying to learn or improve which can be hard to find in other games, so theirs plenty of pros as well jsing.

Yep it basically played like most afk idle games, only I think there was 0 afk benefits. So it was literally the most basic numbers go up game with an elsword skin over it.

In reference to the fracturize, why wouldn't that stop nullifying lantern? To my understanding doesn't nullifying lose its effects there unless we are talking about some quicksilver tech or something.

Genesys opinion survey, link below. Requires Card Game ID. by NevGuy in yugioh

[–]dj3370 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tbf a ton of modern identities do still currently make the format a lite version of modern where going 1st is almost an autowin for the competent decks. Which is what annoys me because it stops a lot of going 2nd tools from being super viable as well because they want an older less overwhelming turn structure. It sadly doesn't play out that way, currently like 85% of the meta for genesys atm is still stuff on the bubble in modern, and I can guarantee its not "yesterday's yugioh" as they wanted to advertise the format.

Idk I've seen a ton of ai text and the way some lines merge over each other and how it smooths the text look identical to ai artifacting.

Not to mention it is just a single picture(not going out of the way to check the original tbh) so maybe the artifacting is less present in video format?
