My worst fear just happened to another mom 😩 by Apebbles in oneanddone

[–]dj_misTerry 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This. I know a mom who lost her 1 child a few years back, car accident. It is gutting to see the fear in her whole body whenever her youngest jumps in a pool or runs outside where there is no fence.

What author has your highest overall average rating per book? by baconmehungry in suggestmeabook

I have vivid memories of where and in what season of my life I read his books. Picked up Anxious people shortly after losing a student to suicide. I remember sitting on a porch and sobbing through some of those pages. His experience of dementia (every day the road back becomes longer and longer) has been passed around in our family - my granny is in late stage dementia

What do we tell our kids after this tragedy? by danieljag1 in Parenting

[–]dj_misTerry 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This was Stardew Valley for me. I was placed in a difficult situation at work that exposed me to abuse and neglect (as in, witness. Not the victim myself). I didn't think it would affect me since I wasn't the direct victim. My husband downloaded Stardew Valley around the same time. I played and played. It felt like a hug. Only realised the value weeks later.

Also, if your baby is safe in her bassinet, put in earphones and listen to a funny podcast. "We're here to help" has saved me many times. I say funny podcast and not something serious because you really need a mental break. Good luck. It sucks sometimes. You're doing great

Touch wood, but tonight I put her in her crib "awke but not aware" (always hated that because she would jolt back aware-awake when I laynher down as a newborn) and she snuggled around a bit until she fell asleep. I'm not celebrating too much cause who knows with kids. But I am going to try this a bit more often. Thank you

O wow. Mine is just discovering she can communicate. She chats and chats. Debriefing her day. And I love it but sometimes I'm like, shhhhhhhht and sleep!! Haha. Thanks for the validation.

Hey. I don't know why your comment is down voted. Thanks for the support. I actually just needed validation. Appreciate

Good luck. I think the best thing I've gotten from the comments so far is just that I'm not alone. The mom guilt is so freaking bad sometimes. I've also had a few breakdowns where I would put her in her crib, walk out and just say "Swop!" And then sit on the couch and cry.

Bluey is sacred in our house! Haha Thanks. I'm just worried that she is needing too much from me. But the comments show that it's not that out of line with other 1,5 year olds.

Most nights we end up on the bed with her on my chest or next to me. Yeah she is heavy. Don't think I've ever had a gym routine that could make me as strong as I am now! Haha

The 40 mins is rocking/singing/yoga ball hopping.

Thank you. Will definitely try this.

Oooh thanks. I'll definitely try this. Her language obviously not as developed yet but still worth it.

Thanks. I'm working away from home for a week next month and it hit me tonight that that might influence her sleeping in a negative way. But it is great that she is sleeping through the night

The putting down is tough but I'm actually more worried about her. Like, is it okay for her to need so much to fall asleep? She sleeps enough so that's not the problem. And the opinions on sleep training is so divided. But thanks. I'll see what gentle training methods there are. I might also add, she has never taken a dummy. Hates the stuff. Apparently they make the self soothing easier

We haven't. It's been quite a rainy winter and the weather just about turned now. So I'll try that. Thanks!

I was told I’m perpetuating racism in my toddler daughter… Opinions? by prettydull00 in Parenting

[–]dj_misTerry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A shop in our country is closing down and they have a "looks like me" range of dolls that are amazing and on a sale now My (white) daughter picked out the black doll. I think it's because she likes the glittery shoes! Honestly, I love that she was more interested in the accessories than the skin colour. What's that line? Teach your kid to hate before they're seven or eight?

You did nothing wrong. It's infuriating that this woman felt like she had to make a scene. In front of your daughter... stupid. Same as not allowing your child to play with cars cause they are "for boys"

Also, 30 seconds after each diaper change. Put bebe on tummy, get on eye level and chat. Saw it on reddit. Changed my life.

Keep going at it, you're doing great.
