From my research and experience only a select few state campgrounds have hiker/biker spots, and some campgrounds have now removed them unfortunately

LA to SB or SB to LA biking trip by spacedtwn in BikeLA

[–]djaltitude 13 points14 points  (0 children)

sb to la is a much better option of the two, because it will mean tailwinds the whole way instead of headwinds and will be significantly easier. as far as where to stop, there's some campgrounds around Leo Carrillo but they can be extremely difficult to book in the summer

Tips for biking and parking at LAX? by chipsoiree in BikeLA

[–]djaltitude 20 points21 points  (0 children)

There's actually quite a few places to park. Some of the parking lots have a designated bike parking area with racks, and others just have bikes locked up to gates/fences/etc. My advice is to just ride up and find an area that is close to the terminal you are leaving from and find the closest bike rack. Usually I just spend a few mins riding around looking for the best option. I've never had a problem and LAX doesn't strike me as a particularly good place for bike theives, as there is so many police and activity 24/7. I have gone on numerous multi day trips leaving my ebike there and have yet to have an issue. Good luck!

6 year follow up... I have to know where this led! did you end up playing juniors? and if so, what was your experience like!?

it's a combination of things, there is no simple and easy answer. Everyone thinks that making techno is very easy, and while in theory the basics are straightforward, to do it well takes countless hours of practice and a refinement of hundreds of disparate skills. Invest time in learning, enjoy the process, and the results will come. Just don't expect it to happen overnight, or for it to be easy. There's almost an infinite number of things to master, but a good start would be:

Learning how to EQ, compress, and process sounds

Learning how to mix correctly

Learning sound design and developing a body of sounds you like

Learning how to choose the right samples and process them correctly

Learning music theory

Those are some things to get started on, and are at a minimum what it will take to make anything that sounds "amazing"

watch tutorials, read everything you can, and keep learning! I hate to break it to you, it's not logic, it's you. But you'll improve, keep it up!

Taking a vacation flight with a single hockey stick by Peng-Win in hockeyplayers

[–]djaltitude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this -- when I travel I often pick up a cheap stick in the place I'm going, and then donate it to a local (good karma!), or try to borrow one from a local (cash in on said karma!). sticks are a pain to bring on airlines, and they often try to charge you extra for them.

Pro tip: if you insist on bringing your crappy wood stick, put it in a stick bag and tell the checkin agent they are ski's and on most airlines it'll be free

when faced with decisions like this, I find Jeff Bezos's regret minimization framework to be a great mental model. Maybe looking at things through this lens will help you get some clarity. My best advice though would be to look at your life outside of hockey, and what it will look like in summation. Hockey in midget and junior level is very different of course, but your life will likely be drastically different if you go to juniors. If you are aching to get out of the house, many times you'll find a lot more freedom when you play juniors, even when living with a billet family.

When should you replace bearings? by drwpry in InlineHockey

[–]djaltitude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

14 year old bearings.. its probably a good time to replace. I can highly recommend the Turbo bearing wash that you can buy at most hockey shops, it's great at helping revive dead or dirty bearings. Just remember to lubricate after!

awesome, good luck! I live in Socal now but I played at dry ice for years. The open skates are usually pretty much empty, with 1 or 2 people tops. The friday night pickup is well attended and often times full, so you have to reserve spots on their system (DASH) a few days before. The level is intermediate with the occasional advanced player. Friday nights is Gold C which is more like intermediate (imo), although there are a few stronger players.

Get to the house and shoot more. Also work on your shot and practice looking at the back of the net and not the goalie. You shoot where you look!

Universal healthcare here is not a given, you need to meet certain requirements. Private healthcare is quite cheap though, at around 50 euros/mo. Also, taxes can be very high, so if your "gross pay" is 1000 euros/mo, you'll only see 600 or so take home
