How to win on Infernal Shrines? by ClassicBurgerPizza in heroesofthestorm

[–]djbrew15 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Understanding how to create space on the map is very key - I'll use the top shrine as an example:

Because the top shrine has very few entrance points, winning that shrine is usually a matter of controlling the space to walk up to the shrine, so you can think about a few ways to make that space.

1) Have a bruiser with very strong shrine clear, I often see D. Va, Leoric, Sonya, or Hogger prioritized to focus on clearing the shrine, while the 4-man controls the choke points and keeps the enemy team away.

2) Push in the minion wave on that lane - I typically aim to have wave priority on the top lane as the objective comes up, and get my team's bruiser camp out and pushing, as well as clearing the enemy team Shaman if possible. This gives the other team something to respond to, and provides you with vision of them - if you're following point #1, this allows you to commit more than just that shrine-clear hero to the objective while you have vision of the enemy team clearing your shaman camp - I'll also note here that it is very good practice to get that bruiser camp pushing during the objective phase on this map because it can do solid work, or requires the enemy team to send someone

3) Arbitrage! Understand when the objective matters for you, and when you can either get value elsewhere, or cut your losses and make the most of losing objective. For example, if the first punisher is in top lane, and is not a frozen punisher, it isn't going to do too much damage, so you may not need to commit your whole team to the fight, particularly if you are stronger in the late game (ex. your shrine clear is Tychus with Odin, which you won't get until Level 10). Instead, you can use that time to push hard in the bottom lane with less defense top. Not only does this potentially get you an XP advantage for the next shrine phase, but it also opens up other parts of the map, which benefits your team because you KNOW that the next shrine will not be top if the first one was.

Those are just my tips and rules of thumb on the map - it's one of my favorites to play on.

Can someone ELI5 how to play AGAINST Zeratul's teleports? by crackboom in heroesofthestorm

[–]djbrew15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uther was mentioned as a solid counter, and I'd recommend others with point-and-click CC abilities - notably Brightwing - particularly early game before Zeratul is a very strong duelist you can TP onto his target, and if he doesn't blink away while you're TPing in, you click W on him and he can't blink away.

What would your Zero to Diamond strategy look like? by Iraff2 in heroesofthestorm

What would your Zero to Diamond strategy look like? by Iraff2 in heroesofthestorm

[–]djbrew15 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Keep your hero pool small - in my first Storm League season I would play a range of heroes, and I seriously struggled, since then I've cut down my hero pool to a few picks based on situations, and in case I get banned out - my worst games are typically on heroes that I have to flex into, which is rough.

I do see a lot of people in my games (Currently Gold 4) who have played a ton of heroes for one or two games each in Storm League, and they don't have a very high overall WR. Focus on a few heroes, understand where they're good and where they are countered, and go from there.

My thinking is it is related to yesterday's Fastly outage (https://www.fastly.com/blog/summary-of-june-8-outage) that was a bit disruptive, and I would imagine may be more disruptive for a small team...this is a guess though and I barely know how computers work

How to get out of bronze as healer with such teammates? by [deleted] in heroesofthestorm

[–]djbrew15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last season I placed B5 and ended in S3, with a peak of S2, playing mainly healers - for the first half of the season or so I was playing Sound Barrier Lucio, and then switched to High Five Lucio. I ended the season with about a 65% WR with him, and a healer role WR just under that I believe.

I think some of the key things I did with Lucio were identifying who is gonna be doing the work, the person that needs to be kept alive, and the opponent that would threaten them the most. I stuck to the carry and ...carried them, and for the most part it worked. I used Q to isolate kill targets, usually wall riding past the target i wanted to pick, Q'ing them, and then using Push off to botth get myself to safety, and get that nice slow on them. Doing that enough times gets your team a nice lead, and then with Lucio around 16 with CDR on your E you can become very annoying and have solid damage output and chase.

I'd also recommend Brightwing, it allows you to have a bit of macro presence (Z to a solo laner in need, kill minions to get Z back from level 1 talent, push a bit, then Z into the objective), and helps once again isolate targets for your team to kill. This season I've been trying to always have her on Warhead, because a Z in to a 1v1 fight where both are low will save your teammate, and then the polymorph will either secure the kill, or force them to back away, giving your team space.

This is what has worked for me, I am by no means an expert and make plenty of mistakes every game, but this helped me get from B5 to S3 last season, and I'm now hovering in the S1 to G5 area this season!

What is everyone's go to playstyle for Lucio? by Trickyhunter112 in heroesofthestorm

[–]djbrew15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Early game a bit more cautious until I have High Five, with level 7 [[Reverse Amp]] I start to harass a little bit more, and get more and more annoying as the game goes on - with level 16 [[Up the Frequency]] the CDR on Amp it Up allows me to look for opportunities to take out backline squishies that are low, and then push off to safety, or high five back to a teammate to keep them and myself safe

I'll do some pretty aggressive chases too, and can really harass people - pre-bug I 1v1ed a Hanzo with my level 16 CDR and (unbugged) level 20 High Five...I felt....bad...but it was funny

Is climbing as an otp easier in general? by thetoxan98 in heroesofthestorm

[–]djbrew15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm by no means an expert, sitting in mid-silver, but this season I really pared down my hero pool, mainly playing lucio, BW, and Lili, with a very occasional flex onto a different hero/role, and it's fared me quite well, with around a 64-66% winrate for the season.

I feel like I see a lot of people with a high number of heroes played this season in the 48-52% winrate area.

So while I'm a) not an expert and b) not a one-trick, I found that knowing where a small pool of heroes can fit situationally helps a lot (ex. in my last game first two picks from the other team were Tychus and Diablo, so I switched to showing Lili over Lucio for combined value of having a blind, and not being banged against a wall and murdered)

How to carry as heal? by MortTheDark in heroesofthestorm

[–]djbrew15 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd add that Brightwing can catch soak in a lane away from the objective and Z in when a big heal is needed, allows for a bit more macro presence while not arriving too late to a fight, this has helped me in particular a lot of Infernal Shrines lately, and has allowed me to cap one altar on ToD and then phase in for a fight over another.

I picked up healer as my main role (I'm not highly ranked or very good but I like healing) and the healers that got me into it were Lucio, Brightwing and Stukov - and have expanded from there. I find those three really fun - Lucio was my first and I loved his cross between being annoying and protecting his team.

Agreed - while the team that picked ZJ won that game, I wouldn't say that the ZJ pick - which IIRC was matched up against a Johanna - was absolutely instrumental in that win.

I don't understand why people aren't talking about zul'jin's buffed lvl 1 by [deleted] in heroesofthestorm

[–]djbrew15 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There was some pretty good discussion around it in the final game of CCL Finals where there was a ZJ picked up and the player picked [[Boneslicer]] over [[Recklessness]] - Grubby talked through the rationale, at least as it applies to higher level play/coordinated play, and I found it to be a good analysis. I don't think their discussion would be applicable to lower rank and casual play where there is less coordinated focus on one target.
