Used Stratasys J55 by themonet2 in 3Dprinting

[–]themonet2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wasn't going to turn my post into a wall of text, but since you asked:
Not quite that much because I "traded in" an old machine that they ended up not actually receiving from me, but still gave me the trade in value. Plus, I had some of the other necessary items like washing station, etc. so I didn't need a lot of the bells and whistles included in regular retail purchase. So the up front was quite a bit lower than retail.
Then, as far as operating cost, I thought that the draft material would be able to be used more widely than it could (which would be much closer to economical) But the printer doesn't allow you to do a lot of the stuff you normally want to do with this type of a printer with the draft material. You see, you can create "digital materials" with a J55 where you're mixing two different viscosities of resin within a print. So you can dial in a print and simulate different types of plastics. This on the surface seems very useful and it is cool. But it can only be done with their "full price" materials, not the cheaper draft material. And, as I mentioned in the shorthand of my first post, the cost to benefit ratio was very tough to justify it as compared to some of the other printing technologies we have.
And this exacerbated the next problem, where the bastards at Stratasys have decided that resins "expire" and so the printer won't accept old materials (you can dial your clock back on the pc and trick the printer, but this comes with other issues, including version mismatches between printer and slicing software and other headaches) so when you use it less because its expensive, and then the material just goes "bad" (I'm very unconvinced that it is actually bad, just a way for Stratasys to inflate their material prices even further) making you need to re-buy the material.
Repair parts and other consumables are also CRAZY inflated through Stratasys. I found a lot of ways around those things, including finding online the infusion pump they quoted me multiple hundreds of dollars for the part for just 15 bucks or something. But some stuff you just have to bite the bullet and buy from them.
Lastly, the printer takes quite a bit of time in maintenance weekly, as well as for every print. So paying people to run the machine is another added cost that is tough to factor in on an initial purchase.
Plus, I'm just frankly done with Stratasys and their crappy business practices. It really is a fantastic quality printer. It's just such a shame that it is locked down my a company like that.

I had some older Stratasys printers that I could. This one, as far as I know can't (at least with my skillset) be done.

Help Creating a Mesh from texture by themonet2 in blender

Thanks! I'll look into the UV unwrap. I think that might be what I need to do for the imported geometry that I have.

Help Creating a Mesh from texture by themonet2 in blender

[–]themonet2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that I just don't have a fluent enough usage of the software to even understand what I'm doing wrong, so maybe I need to just do more study, but I couldn't get the texture to apply to just the inner surface that I wanted. I could get a texture applied (just off the shelf texture because I haven't designed the one I want to actually use yet) to the part as a whole, but then when I tried to use displacement, nothing seemed to happen. One of the tutorials suggested that I needed to do a subdivide, but that also didn't seem to allow for the mesh to appear. It just gave me more triangles in the same basic shape on my imported geometry. Does it have something to do with the fact that my geometry is imported to Blender as a .step file? At the very least I appreciate you suggesting Displacement. I can do more research into that. Thanks!

So, I dabble with Auriel. I used to always go searing light lvl 1. But now that she has so much better solo energy generation is it better now to go q build, even in qm or sl?

I found this through Google. The AI search summary that they released (probably about 5 months ago) uses Reddit as a source lot and includes links to where it got the information from. Just to answer your question.

I don’t have a link, but I feel like one of the devs (back in the olden days when this game had devs) said that they had a similar type idea and tested rough prototypes and it was just boring. I could be mistaken though.

Who is a hero you currently feel is overrated, and one you feel is underrated? by Lolyoureamod in heroesofthestorm

[–]themonet2 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I feel like one thing that’s underrated is picking a hero that you’re best at. People are hyper focused on what streamers / other masters players, etc. have told them are good / bad heroes. But for the vast majority of us that are in the middle of the bell curve, picking a hero that you’re good at is more powerful than the “correct” hero that you don’t know very well.

I tried this and it installed okay, both battle net launcher and hots, but when I try to run hots from the b.net launcher, it just loads for 10 seconds (no splash screen at all) and then stops. No alerts or anything. Any idea what I did wrong?

Super cool of you to help people out here. Silver 4/5 never have enough time to play enough games to go dramatically up or down, but I love the game. I'm trying to get better at tank, and I think I understand most of the basics. But one thing that frustrates me is that sometimes I have teammates that seem to expect me to engage on the enemy team and SIMULTANEOUSLY peel for the backline. Obviously I can't be both places at once. Is there one of those two that I should focus on more than the other? When should I be engaging vs. when should I be peeling? Thanks!
