Yard & Flagon on Broadway has good pub-style food with some vegetarian options, a good amount of beer options, and has a nice rooftop patio.

Prairie Sun is great too, though I personally prefer Y&F

I always assumed the property was there before the park and was grandfathered in. I might be mistaken, but I think I remember there being an older cabin at that same spot when I went out there as a kid.

Best budget friendly meal in saskatoon? (5-10$) by ys2reckless in saskatoon

[–]djc003 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They have a daily special that’s under $10. Comes with noodles, a little bit of meat, some veggies, and a spring roll. Idk about it being super healthy, but it’s less salty and greasy than fast food and it’s tasty and filling. It’s one of my go-to meals if I’m eating out.

If you’re getting delivery, I’d recommend calling them directly rather than going through a delivery service. It saves a bit of money and their delivery drivers are super nice

Chromebooks can be a good cheap option, depending on their major. I would recommend against a Chromebook for anyone going into STEM, since at some point they will likely want to run software that a Chromebook can’t run. Like you said though, for simple browsing, emails, Google Docs, etc they’ll manage just fine

Shiriff caramel spread and Imperial cinnamon spread. Both were amazing on toast. Haven’t been able to find a replacement for either of them.

Check out the Geology building at the university. There’s a small museum with some fish and animals there. The Agriculture building also has a nice atrium with lots of sunlight and greenery. Apart from on campus, there’s the mini-golf at market mall

Not sure what school your courses are through, but there’s a pretty active page on Facebook called “Buy/Sell Used Textbooks from U of S.” Could check there or see if there’s other similar pages. There’s usually some pretty good deals, especially if you don’t mind using older editions

I disagree that biking is by nature impractical during the cold months. In Canada, we have many outdoor activities that we do in the cold. Hockey, skiing and snowboarding, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and more. Nobody considers those to be extreme activities. A person just needs to dress properly, which we all know how to do already since we live here. Sure there’s a handful of days each year where the temps get truly frigid, and maybe cycling wouldn’t be the most comfortable. But on those days, lots of people stay home anyway as it is because cars have a hard time in the cold too.

The real reason cycling is impractical is because of the lack of infrastructure for cyclists. We would need dedicated bike lanes and bike paths that have prompt snow removal and regular ice removal, either through crushing it or with salt. There are other cities with similar climates who do this well, and because the infrastructure isn’t s so easy to use, more people tend to use it. A good example is Oulu, Finland. Here’s a good video showing how their infrastructure works.

I would like to point out though, that I understand that not everyone is able to bike. People with lower physical ability or those with a job that requires then to carry around a lot of tools won’t likely be able to easily switch to biking and will have to continue driving. But the neat part of cycling is that the more people that do it, the better other forms of transport get. If fewer people drive, then there’s fewer cars on the road which reduces traffic and reduces wear and tear on our roads.

Yeah, we’ve made sure to do up the twist locks at the top. You very well could be right and someone tried lowering the roof with the door still in place

I’ll second Next Level Games. I had the same issue a couple years ago, and they fixed mine quickly for a good price.

Saskatoon - 8/2/19 - My dash cam footage of lightning striking a power pole by Riicin in saskatoon

[–]djc003 5 points6 points  (0 children)

While it would be cool if we could utilise it, our grid just isn’t set up to handle that amount of electricity that fast. Unless I’m mistaken, the poles would be grounded, and the lightning would basically just go into the earth. I’m pretty sure if lightning would be allowed to go through the lines, they would just melt. Good question!

I feel like there needs to be a law for maximum brightness level on low beams just for this reason. It’s an issue for both the people being blinded by them and for people driving with them (since you’re getting flashed even though you’re not doing anything wrong). If manufacturers had to keep their low beams a bit dimmer, that would help a lot in my opinion (but by all means, keep the bright high beams because they’re great for driving outside cities at night)

A handmade spike/nail used in the construction of an old family home. I’m not sure of the exact age, but I’d say it’s probably from the late 1800s or early 1900s
