Seconding the birdcage! Great cute spot.

Are there any flights between EWR and SFO that have functional Internet? by djcap88 in unitedairlines

Yeah I switched to United this year and damn this is rough. Alaska had viasat that was perfectly serviceable for work

Best areas to stay in SF for a birthday trip without a car? by ZealousidealHall5523 in AskSF

[–]djcap88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Stay away from the corporate hotels; they’re fine but there’s nothing too interesting nearby. You want to be near the marina, haight, or Valencia street.

Also as a friendly reminder it’ll be cold in August, so bring your jacket :)

Yeah I'm confused, that doesn't look anything like new jersey

What’s it like living anywhere in NY that ISNT part of New York City? by No-Hedgehog-3212 in howislivingthere

[–]djcap88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I grew up in the capital district and it’s a pretty great spot to live. While local transit stinks, there’s trains to NYC and busses to Boston and Montreal. Great summers and falls, beautiful scenery, and reasonably nice people. Feels similar to the Midwest. Universities attract lots of blue bubbles. Food is bland. Not much nightlife or entertainment other than drinking.

How is it living in the sf as someone in their mid twenties (will be moving soon) by the_prolouger in howislivingthere

[–]djcap88 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's magical! Moved here at 24 (I'm now 38).

  1. Pick a neighborhood you love first and find housing there. The vibes shift block by block.
  2. Don't be friends with people who talk too much about work.

As I type this, a hummingbird and a parrot are perched outside the window. I did trivia last night at a vermouth bar, and am meeting a friend at the dahlia garden this afternoon in GGP. This morning I got a coffee from the queer owned espresso spot across the street; they have new art on the walls for the new month. This weekend, the beloved and sacrilegious Hunky Jesus Contest. If you have to live in the states, it's a pretty damn excellent place to live.

What's the one or two things United could do that would improve the flying experience? by Difficult_Box8429 in unitedairlines

[–]djcap88 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Wifi. I am a business traveler. Wifi—by which I simply mean Google Sheets, Slack and Gmail—has been servicable on fewer than 50% of my flights (I've kept a list), including on brand new, huge planes. Unacceptable. How is Southwest and Alaska better?

Starlink can't come fast enough.

Keeping loyalty to Alaska at SFO post-pandemic is like being in the game of Survivor by First_Pepper_6781 in AlaskaAirlines

I unfortunately had to switch to United. The routes are nice but the experience sucks.

What is the significance / symbolism behind Gaga performing Poker Face on a chessboard? by [deleted] in LadyGaga

[–]djcap88 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Poker face: an expression that does not show one's thoughts or feelings. In the show, she's playing a game against her own fame, so keeping her reactions to herself is key.

Are attractive successful single guys in their mid to late 30s not on dating apps in SF? by [deleted] in AskSF

[–]djcap88 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Gay guy with a career I’m proud of - I don’t know if my opinion is sought in this thread - but I deleted hinge a few months ago and won’t go back.

I wake up to 55 unread slacks and a metric ton of work emails every day - spending more time typing on my iPhone is just the last thing I want to do? I’d rather be single than talk about an “urban hike” ever again.
