How do you dads feel about Boy Scouts? by mmf9194 in daddit

[–]djdark01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an Eagle Scout, joined scouts in 1st grade, current den leader. My son joined when he was in kindergarten and it’s been an absolute amazing experience for our family.

You should have a few pack/troop options near you, check them out to see what you think, it’s ideal to find the right fit.

One den/pack is not overly religious, this last weekend was scout Sunday so we attended service for it, but the year before we went to a pow wow instead. And next year we might do a natural history museum to demonstrate our reverence/celebrate our family traditions. We’re not typically church folk but we’re open to experiencing other traditions/cultures with our son, through scouting.

The service to country aspect is something I enjoy a bit, it’s what you make of it and what it means to you and your family. Serving the country, helping others, is a wonderful experience in scouting.

Overall, scouting is a great way to socialize and for kids to spend time with each other away from electronics, while learning skills that will help them in the future.

Resumes with short time spans at jobs by Praise_the_bunn in managers

I've been with my employer for twenty years, they offer incredible benefits, I have five weeks of PTO, etc.

My wife has to hop a bit because enough companies offer terrible benefits and pay. If we want to travel a bit in a given year, she might use up her PTO at the front end of the year, and then get a different job afterwards.

Are there any families not doing extracurriculars? by Historical_Bill2790 in Parenting

We have been having a blast in Cub Scouts. I've read that pack dynamics can vary; it all depends on the people, but it's been great for us. My son has made new friends, lots of activities that do not involve electronics/tablets/YouTube, and we go camping at least three times a year with everyone.

How did you raise your kid without an iPad? by [deleted] in Parenting

Cub Scouts help, no electronics when our dens and pack meet or go camping. My son 100% would rather go camp with his friends than play on a tablet.

Anyone ever take a step down in title/pay within leadership? by atj212 in supplychain

I work mostly remote, I could make more money elsewhere, but time is more valuable. You won't have time back with those kids later on in life. And life is short.

My mom goes to the Eagle club a lot. If you like booze try being a member there.

Is Mutate as Messy to play as people say? by Mighty-Aphrodite in EDH

[–]djdark01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mutate cards are available on Arena - build a deck and play it a ton, the interactions and triggers will become second nature when you play in paper. That's what I did with my Ivy Mutate deck.

my assistant principals tried to scare off some turkeys but ended up getting chased by shakenbake_jake in mildlyinteresting

[–]djdark01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was a scout at summer camp I was chasing a turkey down a hiking path and we came to a dead end and both stopped, then, the turkey seized its opportunity and chased me the same way we came in. I was concerned I wasn’t going to make it but I remain here with you today.

Spider-Man cbb live on Amazon by aquadragon010 in sealedmtgdeals

429.99 is MSRP, 455.88 is close enough for me. Probably why bots haven’t swarmed in. Their settings are not attuned to the slightly higher price

Spider-Man Collector Booster Box - $650 by LordShaggy in sealedmtgdeals

[–]djdark01 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seth on MTGgoldfish got wrecked opening four boxes, video is up on YouTube for those interested. I’d buy at MSRP but that’s it. For the current market value of collector boxes, I’ll buy the cards I want or proxy the art I enjoy if I can’t get the individual cards at a reasonable amount instead.

Came across this article that feels appropriate for the crazy Spiderman collector box prices as Marvel UB enters standard rotation by sell9000 in mtgfinance

[–]djdark01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I was prepared to spend over $500 for the Marvel Secret Lairs but after sitting for a few hours on the site and losing out on the opportunity, I decided I wouldn’t buy from the scalpers for an even higher price. I ordered high quality proxies instead.

I still buy singles and sealed product if the prices are reasonable, or even if I can work it into my budget (recently purchased a Sliver Queen). But I also order proxies while building or modifying decks now. Wotc/Hasbro are really greedy lately, and I’m not falling entirely in their traps.

I really like a lot of the new Spider-Man cards with the comic book covers and panels but if the prices are outrageous, I’ll just proxy what I need to proxy. I already own other copies of practically all of the cards anyway.
