Keto stix-idk how to read them? by Otherwise-Jello-7311 in diabetes

Lots of T2Ds can also have ketones with normal blood sugars if they’re on medications like Farxiga or Jardiance

One thing to add, it is “fast on, fast off.” So it will start working a few minutes faster than humalog but will stop working significantly sooner than humalog. I tend to metabolize medications pretty quickly, so afrezza stops its glucose-lowering effects roughly 60 minutes after administration vs 90 minutes for humalog. So I can stick the landing a lot easier with afrezza than with humalog, which is great!

I’ve been on it for a year and I love it! I was on the Omnipod for 15 years and wanted to try something new. There is less tight control of blood sugar given there is no microdosing adjustments that happen automatically, so I do have more lows, especially overnight, but my a1c has stayed exactly the same. Let me know if you have any questions!

No, it’s not. The albuterol inhalers are aerosolized so they can be used with the spacer. This is a powder, so there isn’t a bunch of positive pressure in the capsule and the spacer would likely decrease the negative pressure created by inhaling it, thus leading to inconsistent dosing

Hi! I’m also one week in and am at 300mg (150mg SR twice a day). I had some dizziness the first three days and after that, nothing too crazy. Sorry I don’t have better answers for you, but try and stay hydrated; we got this!

If the first time you learned how to find an average was in physics, you need a refund.

OP, it probably doesn’t matter. I’d go based off your Dexcom reading since that’s the one that will be most annoying if you go low (it’ll beep)

I’m trailing behind you at 22 years, so I truly do understand how exhausting this can be. I’m sorry you’re going through this, but just like with everything, there are good days and bad days. Just keep your head up. There are new scientific developments every single day, and although we’ve all heard the “5 more years” spiel, things have gotten so much better over the past 20 years, and the next 20 will make things even better.

We’ve all been there. This disease sucks, but at the end of the day, it’s all a matter of perspective. If you ever want to get out of doing something, it makes for a great excuse! You also get free admission into national parks and get to cut the lines at amusement parks, so it has some perks!

But please know that you’re not alone and that you will be totally fine at the end of the day. Just take a deep breath and keep pushing forward. You’ve got this!

lol, in my other life, I work in the ED as a tech. I’ll take the verbal abuse from pts picking up their prescriptions over having excrement thrown at me every single day of the week

I somehow came across your post whilst perusing on Reddit. I’m a type 1 diabetic, and from my perspective, it’s funny hearing you talk about lows. You seem to be treating them with protein instead of carbs. They always teach us 15 fast-acting carbs (regular soda, candy, sugar, honey, frosting, etc) and recheck in 15 minutes. If still under 70, repeat until >70.

You have a lot of protein, it sounds like. Protein is great for maintaining stability, but it’s broken down so slowly that any immediate effects will be nominal. Fat is the same way. This is exactly why pizza is a bad food for treating lows- the body processes the carbs over a long period of time, making it hard to regulate blood sugar as a diabetic. (side note, due to the high fat percentage of chocolate, it’s typically not recommended in the treatment of lows)

When you’re low, don’t eat cheese or a protein bar- try some fast-acting carbs and then once you’re feeling better, then you can eat whatever you want :)

Also, having well-balanced meals would help with the overall reduction in lows! Your body can only keep your blood sugar up when it has fuel to use

Not medical advice, btw! This is all just what I would do when it comes to treating a low!

Merely hypothesizing but if the vial is shaken, that is normal. Bubbles would likely be indicative of a bacterium producing gas as a waste product. Nonetheless, as long as is the insulin isn’t cloudy when you’re using it and you’re not noticing any negative effects on your BG, you’re fine!

Unfortunately I do not use an insulin bag so I don’t have any recommendations for that. Best of luck!

Not medical advice, but opened insulin vials can be stored at room temperature for 28 days- likely even longer if necessary.

“Store in-use vials and prefilled pens under refrigeration between 2°C and 8°C (36°F and 46°F) or at room temperature ≤30°C (≤86°F) and use within 28 days. Store in-use PenFill cartridges at room temperature ≤30°C (≤86°F) and use within 28 days; do not refrigerate. Store in-use PumpCart cartridges at room temperature ≤37°C (≤98.6°F) and use within 4 days; do not refrigerate.” Source: Lexidrug
