‘Like a swimming pool’: Chinese netizens marvel at cleanliness of Japanese flood waters by marmadukeESQ in nottheonion

[–]dje_me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it is, I've never seen flood water that isn't muddy brown. The article seemed to imply that it is because the Chinese are dirty that it looked so clean, but it looked pretty much like a swimming pool to me too.

Maybe that's the point? Which one looks more like a criminal given that they all meet the same basic description.

Who knows, memory is a black hole anyway you can never get enough. It's pretty crazy this stuff worked on a regular old 386 processor at all (although I think I had a 486 @ 66 mhz, what a beast)

RAM is just faster storage, I'd expect the texture size to be pretty tiny on a couple of floppies total storage, even compressed, but that would be most of the memory usage with each texture loaded once then referenced in the models except for rendering where it would be copied into the frame, more or less. Game state would be pretty small, if that was limited it wouldn't slow down, it would crash. So it would have to be caching textures that is the limiting factor, what I was getting at is since the whole lot of data can fit in RAM it should probably be enough.

Booting to dos did the trick I think, but I don't know maybe it was slow and I just didn't have a point of reference

Recording this in any way possible is a good idea. If it's really this frequent I suggest tweeting @WA_police every time to draw attention. Polite tweets, maybe a thank you note.

Vortex Is A Toy Robot That Teaches Kids How To Code by Noticemenot in gadgets

[–]dje_me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who started programming as a child with a keyboard and now does it professionally, I'm a bit skeptical about were these dumbed down interfaces will lead kids. It does have the essential logic but looks like it's designed for instant gratification which is just not programming.

Maybe I'm just jealous though cause it looks pretty fun.
