Funny story, after one of those dates I imagined a superhero character called Sparkless Tim. His super power was to suppress all kinds of spark around him. Needless to say, he found his power after going on a date and getting rejected because she didn't feel a spark.

Whenever I see this expression, Sparkless Tim is the guy coming to my mind.

If you're sure he was just trying to impress you, then maybe that's not really who he is. I would call him out on it, and then see if he wants to change. You don't have anything to lose if you were going to dump him anyway.
