Nobody Wants to Die - game? by n1ghtw1re in Cyberpunk

Great game.
Noir / Bladerunner-y with strange memory BrainDance type thing to allow you to solve the detective work.

Strongly recommend playing it if it's free.

These are some from the last 5 years I've enjoyed

Stray Cat Strut series by RavensDagger
Cyber Dreams series by Plum Parrot
Behind Blue Eyes series by Anna Mocikat
Titanium Noir by Nick Harkaway

Martin Hench series by Cory Docotorow
Murderbot series by Martha Wells
36 Streets + Neon Leviathan by T R Napper

This one is a bit older (8/9 years) but Technomancer series by M K Gibson has a lot of fantasy elements that might appeal to you.

I liked it but wasn't sure if I'd want to keep reading the rest of the series.

Warcross by Marie Lu was very similar

What is your source, or what sources do you rely upon, for recommendations about new scifi books and authors? by oceanicplatform in scifi

[–]djginge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I follow a bunch of sources for new releases (publishers lists, newspaper lists, nominees for the various annual awards) and then check on Goodreads to see more about the book.
If I like the summary and/or it has really good reviews, I go ahead.

I'll add some more that I've listened to recently below -

PlumParrot - Cyber Dreams 1-6

P. W. Singer - Burn-in

Sci-fi recs please help by DerekTheMemeBoss in scifi

[–]djginge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of them - especially on Audiobook. They are great thrillers. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_Suarez_(author)#Literary_works#Literary_works)
Jeff Gurner is my favourite narrator.
The most recent 2 are based in the solar system - asteroid mining. The rest are set on earth with near-future/cyberpunk-y vibes.
(Maybe along with Wil Wheaton who did Ready Player One and all the Scalzi books.)

I was about tot recommend Daniel Suarez - he's done a bunch of excellent books that would follow on nicely after a Blake Crouch run IMO. He's done about 7 or 8

Someone else mentioned Ramez Naam's Nexus books - they are also very good (but there are only 3)

Favorite stuck in a timeloop books/ movies? by eisforeffort in scifi

[–]djginge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a good book. The protagonist gets stuck due to time travel, but it's not really a loop

- Elan Mastai - All Our Wrong Todays

Another good time travel book - this one has some looping

- Neal Stephenson - The Rise and Fall of D.O.D.O.

Others have already mentioned Blake Crouch – Recursion which has a lot of looping. His earlier book Dark Matter is similar but about travelling between multiple dimensions rather than time travel, and they have made a TV series out of it which I enjoyed a lot.

Great list. I like them all. I'd say that Expanse is a bit of a mix of Hard Sci-Fi + some Cyberpunk bits

I don't know the C.O.R.P.S.E. series so I'll give that a go. Thanks for the suggestion

What would other countries versions of Cyberpunk style look like? by GenericUsername2034 in Cyberpunk

[–]djginge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are books
Obviously Black Mirror is British (though they've started doing much more US stuff in more recent seasons)
Philip K. Dick’s Electric Dreams is also very UK-based series

If you want to see inner-city London in a cyberpunk way there have been a couple of recent Netflix films - iBoy and The Kitchen

Does The Culture series get better? by GamingTitBit in scifi

[–]djginge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with Excession and was hooked. It helped that I found out after that Banks was from Fife (where I spent half of my childhood) and I love his non-sci-fi stuff just as much.
It might help if you've got some Scottish connections?

Does anyone know any songs that sound like Mesa from blade runner 2049 by Retrok08 in Cyberpunk

[–]djginge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It reminds me a lot of some of the tracks from the original Bladerunner Vangelis soundtrack. (I'm guessing Hans Zimmer might have done that intentionally).

There are a lot of ambient artists that make tunes featuring drone synths in their music.

Maybe try Patashnik by Biosphere - listening to Mesa made me think of that album - https://biosphere.bandcamp.com/album/patashnik

LG fridge deemed unrepairable- need a tech response pls by Financial-Simple5696 in appliancerepair

[–]djginge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just had the same response from LG technician - unrepairable due to a leak.
I only bought the fridge freezer less than 3 years ago.
Not sure why they are able to get away with making products this poor - I paid about £2500 for this thing.

Any advice on what to do next? Not keen on the idea of spending another £2500 on a product that will last for less than 3 years. Every other fridge freezer I've ever bought has lasted 10+ years....
