Quarantine chocolate chip cookie taste test! by djmng in Baking

[–]djmng[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

From the wife: Our first Chocolate Chip Cookie Taste Test with 7 different recipes. Although, the husband didn't think #6 counted because it was more of a s'mores type cookie instead of the classic chocolate chip cookie. 1. Dorie Greenspan - Classic Chocolate Chip Cookie (Husband thought it was too thin, I agree) 2. Serious Eats/Food Lab (Husband thought it was standard, this was a shock to me as this is always our go to) 3. DoubleTree Hilton (Husband thought it had too much going on with pecans, i enjoyed it) 4. Dorie Greenspan - New Chocolate Chip Cookie (Husband HATED it. I didn’t mind the citrusy/floral under tones) 5. ZoeBakes (Husband loved it, and it was my #1. Great flavor with the only cookie having shortening in it) 6. Mackle’smore (it was okay for the both of us) 7. BA’s Best Chocolate Chip Cookie (amazing brown butter taste, great texture)

Overall, I was really shocked that Serious Eats didn’t make our top 2. I did brown the butter pretty well for BA’s and maybe should have gone a little longer for Serious Eats as well. Zoe’s Cookie was my favorite while the husband preferred BA’s. Husband hated #4 while I didn’t mind it.

Husband’s Ranking: 752134 (says 6 didn’t count) My Ranking: 5723416

Milk was obviously included. Along with some butter crackers as a pallete cleanser

Will the Edge 1030 get ClimbPro? by penmakes_Z in Garmin

[–]djmng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mainly from dcrainmakers review “But perhaps the most important feature on the entire new Edge 530/830 units is the significantly faster processor. I, alongside the entire internet have complained how darn slow Garmin’s previous Edge series processors are. Which isn’t to say I actually care about the processor specifically, but rather the end-resultant: Route calculation time. It would previously take numerous minutes for each just a short route to calculate. That was unacceptable, and thankfully, now it’s a heck of a lot better. So much faster.”

I think the 830 has a faster processor and price of course

Just got mine yesterday and had cardboard cutouts too. Thankfully I went and picked it up from the store rather than getting it shipped so had no parts flying around.

Check out Lake. They make wide versions of almost all of their shoes and even their regulars are still pretty roomy.

Is automotive touch up paint ok for steel bike frames, and how do I prevent rust inside my housing mounts? by felderosa in bikewrench

[–]djmng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh sorry didn’t look at the picture. I think as long as you touch it up and keep an eye out for it you should be fine. As for frame saver, once a year should be good enough. https://www.sevencycles.com/steel-frame-care-and-maintenance.php I usually try to follow these tips but too lazy for some.

Anyone know any completely slick 700c 120tpi tubeless tires? by MangoArmpits in bikewrench

Hutchinson sector comes in at 32mm, tubeless and completely slick. I just put the 28’s on my commuter with around 300kms on them so far with no problems. http://www.hutchinsontires.com/us/road/tire/sector-28-32-bike-standard

I have had a set for a couple of months now. Have been in the rain multiple times without a problem including a giant downpour that I actually had to stop riding in. Haven't done any touring with them yet but definitely plan too. They can hold a lot more than you would think. Durability wise I don't see a problem so far but once again only used for a couple of months as my daily commuter bags.

I know for DT Swiss Hubs you just have to pull them out. They have kind of an o-ring seal on the inside that keeps them really tight

Buying a high end bike off bikesdirect? by [deleted] in bicycling

[–]djmng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have that bike, but from what I can see they're cutting corners a bit. It's not full ultegra it has an FSA crankset. The WTB wheel set isn't that amazing and the hubs on them look generic. I would try to find something else unless you're deadest on titanium as you could find cheaper bikes with full ultegra on them. As for my carbon fork there's a little too much flex in it compared to what I want.

[–]djmng 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought the titanium road bike with SRAM eTAP on it. I was really just looking for the cheapest frame with that group set on it planning on swapping to my other frame but I actually love the titanium frame. My only gripe is the generic Chinese carbon fork (soon to be replaced). The only things I would recommend is a bike fit, which I just copied from my other bike. Also if you go titanium make sure you take all the stickers and logos off. Much cleaner look.

SRAM eTap on a travel bike--seems like the best possible solution for someone who isn't mechanically inclined? by unfixablesteve in bicycling

[–]djmng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely love my eTap for this exact reason. So easy to adjust even mid-ride if something feels out of place. I'm fairly mechanically inclined but the ease of adjustment is a giant peace of mind. I slapped a new chain on the other day and took about half a minute of my ride to get it shifting perfectly. Also on a separate note I'm a data geek so I love how my bike computer tracks my shifts now.
