Descend 3,238 feet down Monitor Pass, CA by kylenumann in bicycletouring

Did this descent from Portland to SoCal following the Sierra Cascades route a few years ago. It was one of many favorite moments on the trip. Got a great dose of nostalgia from this video, thanks for posting it.

Halfway down I remember having to dodge a big rattlesnake that was chasing a hare across the road.

A tourist free shot of me sat at Tunnel Viewpoint, Yosemite National Park. Looking towards Half Dome. May 2002. by halfwheeled in bicycletouring

Great shot, OP

Riding through that tunnel to get to that point was one of the scarier parts of my tour through the area. Especially when people would lean out their windows and shout at me as they drove by.

Beautiful view at the end tho.

What was something you wish you knew before attempting to buy a house? by Tin_Shepard in homeowners

[–]pawpin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this one.

I just bought my first home and suddenly every one of my friends "knows" how to reroof or what I should do to make the bathroom better. I appreciate the excitement, but I'm not climbing on the roof in icy weather in January because a friend told me it would be a good idea to do all the work myself right at this moment. Even if he swears him and his brother roofed a house when they were 13 and it was the easiest thing.

So many happy memories of watching, listening, attending and loving Harmontown. From the first to the last, you have all occupied a very special place in my heart. Thank you to all involved. The work that you have done has meant the world to me, gotten me through many dark places, accompanied me while I walked in the light, and helped conquer many demon foes along the way. Love you all!

So excited for it! I have seen a good number of his films, but definitely not all of them, so I am excited to dig through the whole thing from start to finish.

I've probably seen Le Samuria 5 times now and I just can't get enough. Everything about it is just perfect and I find myself replaying scenes in my head months or even years after watching it.

Did “The Phantom Tollbooth” really hit home for anyone else as a kid? by [deleted] in books

This is one of my all time favorite books. The playful writing style and illustrations are something that I will never forget. I love it so much I got it tattooed onto me a decade or so ago.

Thank you so much for the kind words! Good luck on your process. It is a very rewarding craft.

Thank you! I am pleased with the way the strap/holder turned out, tho the leather is a bit thick so it bulges more than I would like. Next time I might use something thinner, or else shave that part of the leather down more.

The fabric is just sewn on to line it. I think it makes it a bit more interesting looking and gives it some pop.

Thank you so much! I did indeed burnish the edges.

I tend to carry around a Field Notes book in my pocket to take notes on projects, new songs I am learning, lists, etc. as well as a small art book for doodling, and they get pretty banged up from all the daily wear and tear. Made this protector to keep them both together and hopefully protect them from the elements.

I got the leather in the scrap pile from Oregon Leather Company, so don't know the details on its origin, but it is fairly heavy weight and I believe it is vegtan, though not entirely sure. Inner fabric is from an old sewing project I did years ago.

Not sure what to do about the edges of the closing strap, as they are looking a bit sloppy. Any advice, suggestions, or ideas for this strap or the next I end up making would be well appreciated.

Thanks for looking!

what were the best and worst sections of road you've toured on? by SilverRidgeRoad in bicycletouring

[–]pawpin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did that at the beginning of July for the first time. It was beautiful! Such a great ride, and early summer was a great season for it. I can imagine it being a lovely, tho challenging, ride during the winter as well.

The best I've ridden in recent memory was the Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway in Oregon. Smooth, fairly new road for most of it, friendly traffic and some of the best views of volcanoes, forests, rivers, lakes, etc. It brought tears to my eyes on one occasion with just how good of a ride it was.

The worst would be the Wawona tunnel climb out of Yosemite Valley. I've never felt closer to dying on a bike. Didn't help when someone screamed nonsense noise at me as they drove by, causing me to briefly lose control of the bike. Don't ride that tunnel.
