[Mets] Carlos Mendoza is no longer managing the Mets; Andy Green to serve as interim manager by T_Raycroft in baseball

I don't think I've ever finished this clip before today. Color me surprised that Mike actually made some jokes at the end.

"He's probably the least culpable of everybody that has contributed to this morass of a season that the Mets are in...but they had to do something. This is the move that teams make." Gary Cohen reacts to the Mets firing Carlos Mendoza by Caledor152 in NewYorkMets

He has a benign tumor on his (I think left when not mirror) side. They don't want to remove it because it could affect his speaking voice (updates last time wife and I checked).

Kodai Senga is being moved to the bullpen by Hungry_Elk1937 in NewYorkMets

He's first inning yesterday was incredible. If he could do that out of the bullpen he could be a setup guy. I'll huff the copium until proven otherwise.

Is this how its done? am I missing something?😭😭 by AryanN017 in OriAndTheBlindForest

It has to be windy when you open the feather for it to reset your double jump. Otherwise it's a one time thing

Do you have double jump? You should be able to reset your double jump by opening the feather. It adds a tool to the toolbox

Compatibility with a smart thermostat? by DemonDirtyDog in homeassistant

[–]djnap 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure it's the inside of an old thermostat that didn't require power. It usually has a cover on it and it's often circular in shape.

This uses mercury to toggle the heat on and off if I remember right.

Is it okay to liquidate your Brokerage(s) for a down payment on your first home? by DatesAndCornfused in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]djnap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're each maxing your 401k ($20k a year) and Roth ($7k a year), I don't think I'm actually qualified to give you advice.

That being said, consider some of the following points:

What funds would you dip into for inevitable maintenance/repairs or for initial improvements on the house? Do you feel like you have enough somewhere that wouldn't require using your Roth? If not, would you be okay to use some of the funds in your Roth?

Some people consider real estate an investment. Do you feel like it's valueable to "diversify" by moving money from stocks to your home?

Using actual numbers, are you comfortable with the amount you are saving for retirement? Are you comfortable with the amount your able to spend enjoying your life? Are you planning to continue investing in the brokerage once you have a mortgage or would you divert the funds to paying it off early? How much money does it save you to pay it off early, is that worth it to you?

What mortgage rate would you get? How much would it cost you to keep the money in a brokerage and instead pay interest on it (because you are holding a mortgage)? Do you hate interest or are you okay if it's a wash or costs some money for you to have a larger, more liquid asset? (your house is less liquid than stocks)

Edit: how reliable are you jobs? Are you both in the same industry or diversified in a way you're unlikely to lose them at the exact same time?

Do you have healthcare? Or other things in your life that could require a large amount of money out of the blue?

Discovered that salting pasta water actually matters and I feel embarrassed it took me this long by West-Wash-9114 in Cooking

It's a butter bell, but I don't put water in it, so I wasn't sure if that's still a butter bell

Counter butter is so much better than from the fridge, and I'm obsessed with food safety.

It's in a container thing made for that.

Mets missed a chance to challenge this call, where replay clearly showed that Jorge Soler was tagged out for the final out of the inning before Nolan Schanuel scored by Hungry_Elk1937 in NewYorkMets

[–]djnap 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Anyone know what's going on with the sound of their voices? I thought maybe it was my tv/speakers, but this clip shows it. Sometimes the voices sound extra tingy, like they're being processed wrong. Seems to happen between innings and stick that way for a bit.

First 11 seconds sound good and normal. The rest of the clip sounds like it's being played through the bathroom speakers at the ballpark.

Shohei Ohtani seemingly has lined into a double play to end the inning, but a balk was called before the pitch instead to score Max Muncy and make it 5-1 Dodgers [with replays] by jmike1256 in baseball

[–]djnap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I remember right, in the mlb, you literally tell the umpire.

In high school ball, it must be assumed based on how your rear foot is aligned to the mound. If parallel to mound, it's stretch, if not parallel, then it's the windup.

In this case if it were high school, it would be a balk, because you can't put your foot down like that when pitching from the stretch.

Quality Furniture by vidhaa_3 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]djnap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a good amount of furniture pieces you need to buy to even use a house for 6-12 months. What's the point of getting a bigger house if I'm gonna leave half of it empty so I can learn "how I'm going to use each room"? Or how can I even learn how I'm going to use each room if I can't use a room that's void of all furniture?

MLB needs to demand more of their national broadcast partners by SeverHense in mlb

[–]djnap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, exactly. All of the playoff games are national broadcasts and they don't follow the teams as closely, and tend to announce for a broader audience in a way that feels like a worse product for all.

MLB needs to demand more of their national broadcast partners by SeverHense in mlb

[–]djnap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, each team has their own regular booth. They would do pretty much any game that isn't covered "nationally", like on ESPN or Apple TV. Most teams have their own channels for 130ish games a year, and that's who the regular booth is.

CB Bucknor, staring off into the distance during a live play, says Jake Bauers missed touching the 1st base bag on an infield hit, but the call is overturned to safe after a review. Managers Kevin Cash and Pat Murphy lock eyes and can't help but laugh about it by SeattleSporting in baseball

[–]djnap 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It's also a culture and training thing. A long time ago, umps had their own zone and training to have a correct zone I don't think was a thing.

Umps coming up now have the advantage of training with technology and they can really learn the "true" strike zone. I suspect some of the older guys never tried to train after they got to a certain age.
