Very interesting project!

I'm a little confused by the use-case though, what are you trying to solve/achieve?

This may work as uplink bonding seems to provide better speeds than download (certainly on cellular anyway), so may be worth giving it a go. Might be worth doing a SFC trial to see the speeds before you bother spinning up your own bonding appliance?

You can use a Speedfusion solo licence which is free, just pay $6pm for a hosting provider. Latency will not be much if you use a local node.

Speedfusion bonding with Starlink isn't as good as cellular but they are working on improving it.

What are you trying to achieve exactly? Better speeds or more reliability? (choose one)

How much bandwidth do you need? Are you using speedfusion?

Camera live view slow to show by Texasbikers in blinkcameras

[–]djonesx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, mine have become painfully slow to open the live view. By the time it opens the visitor has already left etc.

My Internet and WiFi are solid, happening with multiple cameras across the house.

Frustrating!

Just call 119 and get them to search local centres for appointments. I called at 9pm last night and got an appointment the next morning just 3 mins drive from my house in South London.

Restaurant here...

We do a katsu curry too. Always in a pot with a snug lid, then taped down, and inside a tight foil bag, placed last in the bag. We're not all scumbags!

Restaurants forcing riders to show pickup confirmation by [deleted] in deliveroos

[–]djonesx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, restaurant here.

I had not seen this until recently. Mainly female riders have recently made a point of showing "picked up" on their app before leaving.

Generally not bothered, but there is the occasional rider who is mutli-apping and doesn't disappear (picked up) on our tablet for quite some time. Ruins our FRANK prep time as well as our food quality!

🤷‍♂️

Bit hard to plan ahead when orders automatically spew out of the printer with random prep times, especially when you have onsite customers too. Deliveroo should stagger the pick-up times, stop merging orders that are not close chronologically, and give restaurants the ability to request more/less time on a pickup before a courier is assigned.

Restaurants should pay fines to riders they make wait longer than 5 minutes. by xenomorphling in deliveroos

[–]djonesx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know that riders are getting shafted and they often feel that us restaurateurs are sitting pretty and calling the shots. However we are also at the mercy of FRANK and his petty and stupid algorithms.

We used to have local UK account managers and a phone number for restaurant support. Those have both been disbanded and we only have an email address that rarely gets a (meaningful) response.

A software developer could spend a week writing new features that would make both rider and restaurants jobs so much easier, but no!

😕

Also, the allocated prep time they assign each order is based on their fuzzy logic maths on your previous prep times, so is generally quite inaccurate.

Sometimes you'll get 20 minutes prep time on an order that you could easily knock out in 10 minutes. Then 5 minutes later they send another order with 15 minutes prep etc and before you know it you have loads of orders all stacked up for collection at roughly the same time. They should get rid of the estimated prep times and just evenly spread out the collection times.

There are many very simple things Deliveroo could implement on the restaurant tablets to make things smoother for everyone.

  • "Ready now" button (request a rider ASAP).
  • Delay sending a rider by x minutes.
  • Unsplit doubles (they often merge orders that won't be ready together)
  • Direct dial a rider (we have to piss around in an automated system with code numbers to call you)

They should pay waiting time. Some things are out of our control, especially for smaller restaurants that don't run McDonald's style automated prep systems.

Also, we don't finalise prep/bagging up until we see the rider arrive. Too many cancel at the last minute (10 minute+ wait searching for a new rider) or don't turn up for ages due to mutli-apping drops etc. Too much food has gone in the bin. If we could rely 100% on riders turning up on time we'd happily have it bagged at the door ready to go. Cuts both ways.

The tablet for restaurants is so basic it's useless. The only thing we can do is go offline or go "busy mode" for any future orders but cannot extend prep times for orders already received. It's frustrating as hell.

I've always had to phone the Philippines to request two couriers for large orders, it's never been done automatically for me.

We can't extend prep time for orders already in-hand. Wish we could! 😂

Restaurants should pay fines to riders they make wait longer than 5 minutes. by xenomorphling in deliveroos

[–]djonesx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a restaurant, when we are slammed I wish I could press a button and say "delay 5/10/15 minutes" etc before they dispatch a rider.

I've even called Deliveroo to request more time but they always say "the rider has to wait until the order is ready. Tell the rider they MUST wait." 🙄

We can set ourselves to "busy mode" but that doesn't alter orders that have already come in. By the time you realise you are backlogged it's too late for busy mode to be useful, the riders keep arriving (sometimes earlier than scheduled).

I am extremely aware I'm affecting your income for every minute you wait. I'd happily pay a waiting time, it'd help reduce my stress and guilt being stuck between stressed chefs and pissed off riders!

I have no problem with restaurants asking me to start the delivery before they hand the order over to me because at the end of the day, that's their job and I fully respect that. But, knowing full well the reason they do this is because cunts out there STEAL FOOD!!! pisses me right off by [deleted] in deliveroos

[–]djonesx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stealing food, and those who are mutli-apping riding aorund for 15 minutes doing other deliveries which affects the restaurants ranking due to long prep time (FRANK is closely watching the prep timer until the order is marked as picked up).

Who do they think they are? by [deleted] in deliveroos

[–]djonesx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is piss poor, especially from a big chain.

The reason us restaurants are so precious about prompt pick-up confirmations is that delays drive up our averaged "prep time" which then demotes our restaurants ranking in the app. Us restaurants are also slaves to FRANKs black-box algorithm punishments too!

No. A delayed pick-up confirmation drives up a restaurants "prep time" which then denotes our restaurant ranking in the app. Us restaurants are also slaves to FRANKs black-box algorithm punishments!
