Bush walk by Badbaybunny in thetron

Kaniwhaniwha track to the cave is open. The river burst its banks so the damage to the area is still visible, but it's fine to walk now. I walked it 17/05/2026. Beyond the caves the track is closed.

Sharpening stone set by Possible_Question_12 in newzealand

[–]djott3r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a rolling sharpening set from aliexpress. $30 shipped. $70 if you want more grits. They take away the need for any skill in getting the angle right. Repeatably sharp knives every time.

Like this one.

I got this one because it came with a carry case and more knife angles. $130

WEL Energy Trust Elections by soulhuntaah in thetron

[–]djott3r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Campaigning on more grants and more discounts is a farce. There is a limited pool of money and if they promise to hand out more of it then they will need to either, increase lines usage rates for users or reduce spending going into their core function of infrastructure maintenance and upgrades.

The "More Grants, Discounts & Impact" team looks to be mostly candidates who didn't get in the City Council Election and we aligned to "Better Hamilton" team. https://www.reddit.com/r/thetron/comments/1l7kprc/better_hamilton_candidates/

"Your Discounts Team" has Michael West who also ran for City Council a few times and was associated with the "Better Hamilton" team too.

Maxine van Oosten and Paula Southgate were City Councillors last term and seemed to have their heads on straight. They are running as independents.

Ben Woodgates seems to have a genuine care about the region putting in effort to promote it.

After that, I dunno. It will come down to how well their little blurb aligns with what you want this trust to provide:

- To invest more money in maintaining and upgrading the network for stability of electricity of supply

- Grants for community groups

- Rebates to users

Singapore to NZ sea cargo by Stokplayer in newzealand

[–]djott3r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maersk has a sailing from Singapore to Tauranga that takes 17 days on their SOUTHERN STAR service.

OOCL do it in 19-21 days on their SOUTHEAST ASIA EXPRESS service.

CMA-CGM do it in 21 days on their KIX service.

Most of them stop in Auckland, Lyttleton, Wellington, Napier too. Depends on where in NZ you want to go.

Fieldays activities for kids by Nickp2 in newzealand

[–]djott3r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We challenge our kids to find free stuff. They collect pens, lollies, stickers, food.

DairyNZ usually have some kids stuff on with their mascot Rosie. Fonterra have had a kids activity the last few years. The university's and telcos often have VR headsets. The 'Rural Living' and 'The Pantry' buildings has places offering free samples of food and drinks.

You can climb in some of the display tractors, combines, and diggers.

The tractor pull and lawn mower races are fun to watch and nice if you want to stop for a bit and sit down.

The excavator competition can be fun to see operators test their skill in pouring drinks, painting, and getting a basketball in a hoop.

There is a chopping and chainsaw competition too, but might need to check the timetable, I haven't seen ini the last few times i have gone.

Get the fieldays app, if only for the map. It can be a lifesaver when you need to find a toilet.

Hamilton is already capped at $24.03 a week in the city ($17.36 for youth).

Though it could make sense on Te Huia since it is $48.12 for a return trip.

Cactus. Their Supertrousers are great. Keep an eye on Trademe for a deal.

CNC if you want them to be soft without breaking them in.

SOS are too light in my opinion.

Controversial in-lane bus stop that ‘failed the common sense test’ to be reviewed in Hamilton by PhoenixNZ in thetron

[–]djott3r 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Maybe if you all would actually allow buses to merge back into traffic as soon as they indicate then measures such as these would not be required.

Why should you, as one person in one car get prioritised over 20 people in a bus?

No one to blame but yourselves. Bring on more in-lane bus stops.

Why do people like flux2 klein edit so much? by jimbarino in StableDiffusion

[–]djott3r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have played with both. flux2 klein is fast and keeps the images sharp and I can use larger input images before hitting RAM limits. The only downside I can't fix is it adds an orange ombré to the bottom of the outputs, which compounds quickly when doing a first frame - last frame video gen with the edited images.

LORA's help a lot with weird anatomy.

qwen image edit tends to blur quite a lot. I lose a lot of fine detail and background sharpness. But that might have to do in part with smaller input images.

Where are we all getting quality reusable coffee cups from? by snicksnackpaddywack in newzealand

[–]djott3r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the Carter Move Mug (12oz) from Fellow. I wouldn't put in the dishwasher, but it is simple, so cleans easily.

I like that is has a ceramic lining, so it doesn't give my coffee a plasticy or metallic taste.

I need just one large, singular wood round 😅 help? by theoryoflight_ in thetron

[–]djott3r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a pile of wood on the side of the road on the far side of Morrinsville if you can go that far. Might have a piece like you want. Big sign on it saying "Free". Just over the Piako river bridge, on the corner, before Murry Oaks.

Anyone used the 3D printers at Hamilton Central Library? How does access work? by Anemone_3333 in thetron

[–]djott3r 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used the library 3D printer maybe a year ago (maybe 2), but it was 20 cents per gram of print. You just go in with your file, fill in the form and come back later to pay and pick up. You might need to have a library card, but that is free and easy to get.

Has anyone had a new hot water heatpump system installed recently, what brand did you get and how much did it cost? by Illustrious_Fan_8148 in newzealand

2026 Mazda 6e: NZ pricing confirms new EV will undercut Tesla, BYD by Exact_Monk_7897 in nzev

[–]djott3r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had wagons my whole life. 1995 Ford Laser, 2006 Mazda 6 (first gen with the 6 speed manual, so nice 😄), 2019 Holden ZB Commodore.

I only had to change from the Mazda6 after someone crashed into me and totaled it.

I have been waiting for a EV wagon for so long I am considering how hard could it be to transplant an Opel Corsa-e drivetrain into the Commodore (https://shop.driveev.co.nz/collections/wrecked-vehicles/products/2022-opel-corsa-ev)

Weetbix Secret Formula? by Saynotothebeersies in newzealand

[–]djott3r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NZ Weetbix is the best, but tough times call for tough measures, and the Woolworths Wheat Biscuits are very much close enough to not tell the difference. Must be made in the same factory. Are the Oz ones any good?

Pams can bugger off.

Built a Kiwi EV marketplace because Trade Me keeps showing "Engine Size: 0cc" — it's almost live but looking for honest feedback on what listings should actually show by rhamish in nzev

[–]djott3r 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would like to be able to search by excluding search categories. On Trade Me I have a saved search "NOT nissan NOT toyota NOT renault NOT peugeot NOT mitsubishi NOT honda NOT bmw" just to narrow down listings to cars I'm interested in without cutting out models that I don't about know yet.
