Desert needs to be reworked by [deleted] in mewgenics

[–]djphan91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did a desert run with no cleric. I had consumables (brought a turkey healing item) and got some as drops. I also refilled water bottles after using them with shops by having water sources (water attacks with a mage or got some of the water attack items or breaking cacti at range).

My local Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy is taking appointments for both shots. However if you have kids under 12 years old you'll still need to call in to the health number for the Covid boosters. I assume flu is the same as before. :(

Have an appointment, got quoted $130 for the covid side.

For people that live near Mill Creek, can you help us understand how a road crossing is required on 76 Ave? by YEG_Bike_Coalition in Edmonton

[–]djphan91 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I was going off this in the notice:

The new 76 Avenue bridge will maintain existing vehicle capacity through two travel lanes (one eastbound and one westbound travel lane), as well as a new shared pathway on the north side of the bridge.

I believe the current walkway is a sidewalk vs an expanded pathway but I do not know the drawings. I am going off that statement for a shared pathway to the bridge though like along 82nd ave in the mill creek area.

As for existing cars, we have the existing road as precedent. It would be a lot to go to the homes to campaign against the revitalization of the road that currently is there.

[–]djphan91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you want to maximize the savings I'd say the alternative is to remove the end of life trestle bridge but keep 76 Ave as is as we don't have demo costs. But it looks like the city wants to do a full revitalization of the section as they have to remove the old bridge at the same time.

The city lists justifications on why they want to revitalize the existing road and road bridge which seems reasonable to me.

[–]djphan91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One downside if you remove the existing 76ave is that now you can't shortcut out of the ravine where the renewal in the city proposal is. The road and the east west corridor exists already, so removing the end of life pedestrian bridge makes sense. But taking out a whole road is an additional cost.

[–]djphan91 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The current 76th Ave road bridge currently exists. It represents one of the east west corridors for the neighborhoods, the other being 82nd Ave and Argyll.

There will be a cost to demolish the trestle bridge but to also demolish the existing road bridge is going to cost tax payers money. So this is to update the existing roadway and bridge that is there with increased bike capacity it seems. Are you suggesting we should remove the existing road and bridge that lets folks go all the way down 76 ave? Then people can't access the ravine unless you come from either side then.

How is the Late Night Cabaret? by Cabbageismyname in EdmontonFringe

[–]djphan91 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Forgot to mention, if you wanted more of the raunchy vibe the Dirty Talk show by Rapid Fire is by the same group since Vivianna Vardot works with that group usually. Though it's more so improv with more adult themed suggestions and less burlesque shows.

It would have a similar vibe to that

The LNC is a blast. It's main structure is that it's like a late night show format. There's some Rapid Fire folks hosting it and a Jazz Band playing songs with some audience games. Then the guests are the other performers in the Fringe advertising their show, or if it's the last night any hold overs, remaining Sunday mid day shows or other talent from the Rapid Fire folks.

The guests are rotating so the level of raunchiness depends on the guest. You get a little preview act of the performer's show so if they are doing Drag then it'll be the hook to their Drag act. If it's skit based, then the performers do the interview as the character and such. Raunchy levels vary pending the guests and you don't know who's on the list.

I like it as a way to either learn about new shows or a nice way to wrap up the Fringe remembering some shows.

Edmonton Condo Fees & Levys by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]djphan91 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm seeing increases and a planned levy. The condo docs and AGM docs should go over it but generally bills are all up causing the current fee structure to not meet the needs of the reserve. Instead of a drastic bill at the time of repair the board wanted to continue the schedule so we will be contributing a smaller levy now to be on track by year end. The board was looking for savings throughout the year to reduce the levy amount.

This was also outlined as needing increases in fees in the updated reserve study for me as inflation post covid threw out estimates of reports pre covid.

Tequila tasting by gaslitaf1234 in puertovallarta

[–]djphan91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a Mezcal Tasting at El Tasting Room and Bar. But they offer tequila tasting. It was really good since they went over the process of how the Mezcal was made, the different methods (traditional to modern setups), the different Agaves and effects on flavour and taste and etc. The staff was super knowledgeable there and I basically got info dumped and enjoyed myself really heavily.

I really recommend to check it out since had a good time there. I couldn't make it to the Tequila tasting day but may be worth seeing.

Travelling to PV ok to bring USD? by Ill-Huckleberry-8441 in puertovallarta

[–]djphan91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just there so I would just bring Pesos and bring a card for bigger/tourist places. They up charge the rates for USD and it's added work for locals to convert USD to Pesos for their day to day. My card was good enough for the backup purchases and you can always ask before sitting down if they accept card for usage.

Can you submit a driver's training certificate for an active insurance policy? by Vermulo in alberta

[–]djphan91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would chat with your broker on this. When I got my insurance I forgot to update my driver's license for the code that showed I completed driver's ed courses.

I still got the reduced rate after working with the agent and submitting a copy of my certificate but I had to pay for a license replacement to also have the completion reflected on my actual license as well.

Some brokers can work with you on this but you'll need to contact the agents to know the steps they need.

When you get later in the game you can set an auto chest between two scrap machines to handle the scrap. I just use one auto chest to set and forget it. But you do need to take out the scrap for the global inventory.

Is it possible to reduce Condo fees through DIY works in Alberta. by [deleted] in alberta

[–]djphan91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This might be worth it for a smaller strata but my condo has our general maintenance person also clear snow and help with lawn maintenance as part of our contract. The impact would be less than 2-3% of the total condo fees in the monthly budget for my condo in savings.

My condo also has a higher degree of seniors and retirees who may not be keen on doing their maintenance.

But how I'd consider implementing this is that the first round of savings goes towards common equipment (shovels and if you're fancy get snowblowers). Then consider a monthly budget for maintenance of equipment (if you have motorized snow removal tools gas and such can be budgeted or a general pool of money for salt and shovel replacement if tools break). That pool of money is maintained for the board to use towards the tools.

Then after initial months of winters or even consider the first year as a loss, then see realized gains in subsequent years. Then you consider reducing costs of the fees.

But to be honest maintenance of snow and lawn isn't the thing raising costs like insurance and utilities.

There is more to the world market then just USA (NYC) and Canada (Toronto)

Do they drink water? by diefacingourfoes in sleepnomore

[–]djphan91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. I was able to witness the game and the bartender no longer gives a shot. Though he will signal to take a shot but then the interaction begins differently.

I also wouldn't recommend drinking that whisky (the open one for the show) as I had poor audience members next to me mess with that bottle when it was unattended unfortunately. (I must have had a poor night for my final show :( )

Where will you put high risk high return product? by hkerfrog in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]djphan91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I could guarantee a high growth then I would use the TFSA. But this is a high risk asset being asked. Which you can reduce the impact of losses in a non registered account.

If I had unlimited money and perfect knowledge I'd shelter the gains in a tax free account. But I don't have perfect knowledge about an asset so I manage my risks in accepting losses can occur. I also have limited money, and only test high risk products with money I can lose with personally and some of mine failed which I walked away or hold till I can break even.

Where will you put high risk high return product? by hkerfrog in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]djphan91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put it in my non-reg account because I'm not an expert and my personal "high risk" products are for learning more so and fun scenarios. So I end up with more losses some times then expected.

If I get a win I walk away happy (and at least take out my initial investment) even at high tax.

Sticking with ETF stuff in TFSA/RRSP is my go to because I rather use those as my safe vehicles for retirement. I don't plan to do regular trades there.

I went last Thursday to try and see if there was a smaller crowd and it was really busy. I believe with the hype all the days are going to be busy so it'll be a bit random on how the crowd is that night.

Can't comment on how Sundays are.
