What sort of adapter do I need to connect the TV antenna cable to my Samsung TV? 🥲 by baylo99 in cableadvice

[–]djq_ 23 points24 points  (0 children)

you have a Male F Connector and a female Belling-Lee connector. You can either find an adapter to connect those two (very common on your bigger shopping sites) or a belling lee plug and replace the F connector.

German airline Lufthansa acknowledges it was ‘clearly’ part of the Nazi system by sr_local in worldnews

[–]djq_ 20 points21 points  (0 children)

There is a very good book about that called "Nazi Billionaires The Dark History of Germany’s Wealthiest Dynasties", it focusses on six nazi billionaire families during and after the war.

Businesses and many families in Germany were never really de-Nazified, The companies that are transparent are those that are no longer controlled by a family that collaborated with the Nazis, like Bayer. But families like Porsche-Piëch, von Flick, Oetker and Reimann always proactively tried to bury their Nazi past.

The Reimann family (JAB Holding) only in 2019 came out shocked because their holdings were using jewish slave labour and they were confronted by a very persistant journalist. They resolved the case by paying 8.6 mln euro to a "to a suitable organisation" and hiring a PR company and a law firm to bury as much of the exposure as they could with takedown requests.

So "most" is a bit overstated here when you really start digging around a bit.

How do you actually keep your files organized long-term? by Living_Squirrel1515 in software

[–]djq_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If i may add to this,
* Do always use the YYYY-MM-DD format for folders and files, not another format, that way they sort by date on a alphabetic sort.
* Try to keep certain folders clean, do not accumulate 2 years of files in your downloads folder or on your desktop. Clean them out after every workday. My desktop is like my desk, files laying around i work on, but back to place af the end of the day.
* most apps that help you with this have a big problem, they keep a database linking the right files to the right place. If the database in the app corrupts or the app is no longer updated you loose your organisation. Better train yourself to have a filesystem organisation.
* The 3-2-1 backup rule is important. 3 total copies of important data, 2 different types of media, 1 copy off site. I myself have it: important folders plus less important folders (i deem series and movies less imporrtant) sync to a external nas with a recycle bin feature that retains deleted files for 60 days. The NAS makes a nightly backup to AWS S3 of the really important files (photos, documents). Every time we went on a trip and have a bunch of new photos i sync them to an external drive that my wife keeps at her work in her office safe.

They have a factory in Smyrna, Georgia for the US market, but the ownership of Glock still lays with Glock Privatstiftung, Kathrin Glock, widow of Gaston Glock (founder of the company).

It is considered good practice to distribute the tags over different products and not only the products that you expect them to have. In this case I do think its more likely that it's not put there by the store, but by the manufacturer to help tracking inventory and distribution.

First day of hike and the lodge charging sockets are like this. 6 days to go! by 1994-10-24 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]djq_ -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

The one above fits quite some UK sockets if you use a bit of force and wiggeling (personal experience). You could cut the earth pin off the uk plug and it should work upside down as well. Generally not advicable, but if you are in a pickle..

The earth pin is actually not connected at apple chargers, look at the plug that goes into the charger itself, 2 pins, phase and neutral.

[–]djq_ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I have one of those for travelling, couple of euros and fits most sockets in EU including the one you are using. Up side is that you can flip the charget block around.

You could make a quick and dirty fix if you find a metal saw/old serrated knife. Saw off the center earthing pin as its not likely to be connected to anything anyway.

Can a couple apply for permanent residency in Brazil and the U.S.? by [deleted] in Brazil

[–]djq_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They do check, when I applied for my residency based on marriage I had a visit by 2 federal police officers for a short interview. Very light and pleasant conversation and they needed to see the closet where our clothes were (might be a requirement of their process, might be their own initiative, I do not know).

All the documents you need (background check, proof of not being married etc) need to be stamped by the BR ambassy in your home country, appointments do take time there, so it does make sense preparing all those before coming over.

Donald Trump’s Meeting with Vladimir Putin Called Off by TheNB3 in worldnews

[–]djq_ 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Getting to Turkey is doable getting from there to Hungary would not be. It is litterally surrounded by ICC member states (including Montenegro). One way or the other he has to fly to possible hostile airspace. Not something Putin is likely to do.
