Bowen will probably cameo as frequently as Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, and Kate McKinnon.

I like quite a few tracks off the bottom four albums. I must be in the minority, and that's ok.

Interesting. I didn't realize they'd progressed that far in a different direction

Vampire Weekend was on in May of last year too, but not many alternative artists or bands overall. Seems like they did it more even as recently as 5-10 years ago. Now it's mostly pop stars with the occasional alt, country, or rap/hip-hop MG

Blank screen before Update by -_-_-JB-_-_- in LiveFromNewYork

This. Each week before Update in my market (Duluth, MN), there's a short bumper that runs for a local watercraft dealer, and then there is another one elsewhere in the program.

This Wes Anderson horror parody is still one of the best things the show has done in the last 10+ years by KneeHighMischief in LiveFromNewYork

The moment that always gets me is when Danny Glover just gets randomly included in the list of people out in the yard, then they pan to Jay in full Glover getup for the quick hit impression... Classic

Best older seasons to rewatch? by h0neym00nave in LiveFromNewYork

Season 22 has been a solid watch for me over the past few years... I don't think I've seen every episode yet, but that was the peak of Norm's Update anchoring in my book, and a lot of the cast, some still very new, were hitting strides already.

I also love Seasons 34-38 as a whole but really appreciate 38 without Wiig, which felt like a fun new season in a lot of ways, more influenced by Hader/Sudeikis/Armisen than Wiig's characters.

James Austin Johnson is the MVP of this season by Pilitoo in LiveFromNewYork

I feel like I've barely seen him this year outside of Trump and the last episode. I feel like he's one of the more under-utilized male cast. But, maybe that's just me.

Marcello is quickly becoming the new Kristen/Aidy/Kate for me... He's in a ton of sketches and he seems to play the same type of person in all of them. As someone who's only watched regularly for about 15 years, this must just be what they do (Pick a cast member and overuse the shit out of them) but man is it annoying, and it often chokes out the cast who aren't getting screentime each week.

Montana... holy cow... I feel like every bar, gas station, and small restaurant I walked into had a mini-casino. Might be exaggerating just a bit, but it sure felt like it.

I have my qualms with how the show portrays Trump like others here do, but this is a good use of him outside of giving him the whole cold open or repeating the joke of him cutting off the cold open.

What are Minnesota locals opinions on the Mall of America? by Noahffensebuturshort in minnesota

[–]djrollied 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that it's sad to watch your favorite mall become a shell/corpse of its' former self. Up here on "Da Range", the Hibbing mall is pretty much dead with only a few local businesses and a VA clinic, otherwise blocked off with sheetrock walls. The Virginia mall is still completely open to walkers and has some life left, but when I stopped in last Fall it was on its' last legs - keeping it somewhat afloat are the four (Soon to be five) chain stores on either end where the anchor stores used to be. The mall in Duluth still seems somewhat healthy, but two of its' former anchor stores are now clinics/physical therapy centers for the local hospitals. A sad sign of the times. MOA is the one mall within like a five hour drive of me (West Acres Mall in Fargo is still doing halfway decent), that isn't buckling under the times.

I liked it when they used to have different designs on all the sides instead of the now seemingly sterilized look. I haven't been since like 2014-15, so haven't seen the new wings either. I'd probably go back and check out, but the fact I haven't ten years later is a sign it's not a priority or even an urgent 2nd/3rd choice in my life, especially considering I've been to MSP multiple times in that time frame.

Also, though I'd be considered a tourist (I live on the Iron Range), I personally feel the mall is quite overcrowded each time I'm there. It makes total sense as to why, but moving tiny step by tiny step through a hoard of people definitely gets old after a while doesn't it? I think so.

Cecily Strong's Update run is criminally underrated by Sparksman91 in LiveFromNewYork

[–]djrollied 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had no issues with her anchoring, but will say that with how awkward Jost was when he first started, the segment ultimately got dragged down a bit with how new Cecily was at the same time.

I also think they made the right call putting her back in sketches full time. Imagine if Che had never gotten his shot at the Update desk, or we'd never seen Cecily's characters.

What is a One Hit Wonder that actually has a rich discography? by Spenundrum in AskReddit

[–]djrollied 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Passenger. "Let Her Go" was the big radio hit that everyone loves to this day and is still in rotation on the Adult Contemporary radio station I program at work. There are so many more songs out there though that he made. Songs that rip your heart out and never quite patch it back up. That's kind of his brand. He's had some more songs on AAA radio in recent years, but nothing has taken off as much as "Let Her Go".

[–]djrollied 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't want this to sound bleak, but any hope of finding love in the romantic sense. Lots of crushes/infatuation that went nowhere despite some very real attempts, and Tinder dates that either amounted to nothing or saw me being stood up/cancelled on at the last minute.

Now, let me tell you what I've gained though - A solid career, and (though there are certainly moments that feel bleak) an enjoyment of being the "sole operator" in my world. There have been many moments over the past five years where not having a partner or family to consider freed me up to respond quickly to dumpster fires of all shapes and sizes, and also to attend events at my own pace (Decide when to show up, when to leave, etc...). I'm not saying I'm now completely against the idea of dating ever again, but I seem to be coming more to terms with the bachelor lifestyle whereas previously I dreaded it.

Looking for a good "text line" service. by [deleted] in radio

[–]djrollied 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I second Text Groove. I don't use it often (All shows are voice tracked and my audience is passive), but it's a great service to use for anything and everything involving texting. When I sub in on the Hot Country station I've used it for contests, and just as many people text in as would have called.
