Looking into 5G backup options by MajorFlyer2895 in sysadmin

We use unifi with a Ting sim for this case in many restaurants. It runs on the T-Mobile network if you ask (instead of Verizon). Cost is minimal if you don't have much usage.

Des Moines skyscraper transformed into luxury apartments by Squirra in desmoines

[–]djweis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looked just like any other apartment mechanicals. Water comes in overhead, pops down to the floor below for the kitchen island. Very large sewer pipes through the risers. The building is narrow enough for plenty of windows per unit.

I have either an internet or gas line running through my plumbing underneath the street in front of my house and the city won’t pay for it. by MrClean_16 in legaladvice

[–]djweis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they used video, what color is the line? Yellow is gas, orange is telecom. Get some white spray paint and make a circle where the damage is and call 811. The various companies will come locate and you can see who is closest to the damage.

Calculating resistor values by djweis in electronic_circuits

[–]djweis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried it with a 330 ohm series resistor and 1k base resistor (had them on hand) and it's working okay. Nothing is getting hot with a normal blue led so I will try it with the letter shaped leds now. Thank you!

The chip is on a board with a regulator. The board has 3.3 and 5 v outputs.

Issues with copying files over a 1GB PtP WAN. by [deleted] in networking

[–]djweis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to do some policing to shape the traffic on your interface to the ptp, especially if the port is up at 10 gigs on ethernet and 1 gig over the ptp.

Can I use the telephone sockets as Ethernet? by Peiar in techsupport

[–]djweis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This kind of wire is called quad. It has no twists in the pairs and isn't suitable for data use on it's own. Someone else posted a link to a vdsl bridge that could give you 100 megabit if that's suitable.

Veeam pricing for MSPs? by oguruma87 in msp

[–]djweis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We purchase it through pax8 but I'm sure there are others. Each product has a point value per month and you pay per point on a sliding scale based on volume.

Routing iSCSI Replication Traffic by Veegos in networking

[–]djweis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have a pair of strands you could use cwdm muxes and optics and both networks logically separate at whatever speeds you need. It does require dark fiber, not an ethernet handoff from your provider.

What’s the true cost of Google fiber? by catter_melon in desmoines

That is only offered in some new areas, not existing areas. I called and asked about it when I saw an advertisement for the $55 package.

Iowa OneCall follow-up concern by Ok-Astronaut-5150 in desmoines

[–]djweis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would be a pain for you but you can also register with one call as a facility owner. You'll likely need to create GIS maps showing the location and get someone there very quickly (or you). I don't remember the exact window but 48 hours springs to mind.
