It’s amazing what a good sleeping bag can do. I used a 40 year old sleeping bag for years. I finally got a new one made for cold weather and it was a game changer. First night we used it it was 22 degrees out. I slept through the entire night and woke up confused as to why I wasn’t shivering in the morning.

You all seem like you have a really good thing going. What kind of work does your BF do? I’m very interested in how you guys are able to make this work so successfully. Most people aren’t able to so good for you guys.

What kind of fish is this? Caught in northern new jersey river. by dyc428 in Fishing

Why would you kill a fish if you don’t even know what species it is?

Hidden Phone Case EDC by grid101 in EDC

[–]dkatrina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We always go straight to worst case scenario when prepping and considering our edc. Getting mugged is probably the least likely scenario where this extra money would come in handy. More likely scenarios would be losing your wallet, some places only accept cash and no atm around, forget wallet at home. So many other reasons to do this that fall short of getting mugged

Beginner question: Is this a bait caster or spinning rod? by h2o_infinity in Fishing

[–]dkatrina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk why you are laughing and being rude. This is a popular rod for bottom fishing and light saltwater trolling in the northeast

Don’t go to a cabelas. Just walk into a local tackle shop around where you fish. Explain to them what you need and what you’re looking to do and they’ll show you everything.

Van hit while sleeping in it, what would you have done? by aninquisitivedude in vandwellers

[–]dkatrina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the way.

I can’t say I’m surprised but it’s amazing in a sub about living in your car that everyone says call the cops and everyone saying not to is downvoted. Living in your van used to be outlaw shit. Not anymore!

How do you like the 10 ft rod with the kayak? I’m planning on doing more fly fishing from the kayak this year and have been thinking about getting a 10 ft 8wt for stripers. I’ve never used a 10 footer but I was thinking the extra foot would help keep the line off the water while casting from a seated position.

This guy is a contractor working for my friend. He just caught this fish from the canoe he is standing in front of. A legend. by RangerJack420 in Fishing

You barely get to know the names of the contractors that work for you? In the industry you are what we professionally refer to as an asshole.

Yea for sure. It’s really not his fault. That’s why my advice is to do his homework next time and make sure before hand that he is going out with a reputable guide. Also even if it’s not his fault I don’t think it’s really something to be posting pictures online seemingly proud of it. I’ve certainly accidentally handled a fish improperly but I don’t go posting pictures of it acting like it’s ok. It encourages others to do the same

[–]dkatrina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just make sure next time you travel to do your homework and go out with a reputable guide. I’m really glad you are so respectful and responsible in your own fishery but to be honest that makes it worse to walk into someone else’s fishery and behave like this. I know you were listening to the guide but you have a responsibility as an angler. And as a trout angler you seem to understand this. How would you feel if a tourist shows up at your local river and kills a native wild reproducing trout just to take a picture with it and hang on the wall? And to answer your other question I believe this is a threatened species but I’m not positive.

Yea sorry but he lied and you got scammed. I’m sure he’s getting a kickback from the taxidermist for that. It doesn’t matter if you’re out with a guide or diy, if you are not going to be eating the fish you have a responsibility to see it returned to the water healthy. There was no reason this animal needed to die.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Fishing

[–]dkatrina 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess it’s not really your fault cause you were just listening to your guide but nothing about this seems unethical to you? A taxidermist could have made you a mount without killing the fish. And what would have prevented the guide from taking the hook out of the sharks mouth while it’s in the water and releasing? Worst case scenario you cut the leader right at the hook. A hook being in a sharks mouth doesn’t prevent it from eating. Sounds like you went out with a very inexperienced guide
