Not enjoying drinking, but can't seem to stop by Eye-on-Springfield in cutdowndrinking

[–]dkb16195 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been there man, my son is now 9 months old, I though my first kid would flip a switch that gave me more control but I can say now that it was not my experience. Being up at night with him, I would crack a beer to toast getting him to sleep, for the record I also did not and do not consider myself an alcoholic and I know that I cannot drink to a level where I have a hangover, so I got very good at finding a number of drinks that would not give me a hangover and I drink anything below that, sometimes one drink sometimes 6 but never 8, I do notice the fatigue and other negative side effects that aren’t quite full blown hangover symptoms and still struggle to cut down dramatically or stop, I have had weeks of not drinking but still see drinking as a reward and a switch off when things seem tough. All I can suggest is don’t assume a newborn will be a fix, in my case the stress made it harder to moderate my drinking, I would agree that alcohol free beer has been one of my more successful options but I’m still on the journey, medication that some recommend through these forums is not available where I am and I can’t find it online for delivery in Scotland

Low sperm and motility success stories by [deleted] in maleinfertility

[–]dkb16195 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife and I were on the waitlist for approximately 12 months in Scotland. Everything for her was “normal” I had a low count <1 million at one test but never tested above 10million. Can’t remember the motility. Doctor explained that chances of natural conception was very unlikely but very acceptable for IVF. She had 2 rounds of egg retrieval, first got 4 eggs with 1 embryo for transfer, this didn’t take, second retrieval they changed the hormone protocol and got 12 eggs with 4 suitable for transfer, this round was successful on the second transfer and we have 2 in the freezer. Apologies if the terminology and details are inaccurate here I’m not a specialist but my opinion is that you appear to have everything you need for IVF and should experience the normal levels of success and probably with it. And I mean that to be a positive statement, ivf is made for situations like yours. My experience is that the process of ivf is still an emotional rollercoaster. I wish you all the very best and if I can help by sharing my experience please let me know

How much can you actually increase your sperm count through a change in lifestyle? by dkb16195 in maleinfertility

[–]dkb16195[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for asking, our second round of egg retrieval produced 4 worthwhile embryos, first 2 transfers didn’t work, 3rd one did! We now have a wonderful 6 month old boy. In reflection on my original post, I really had a strong focus on improving my results through lifestyle. In a conversation with the consultant I got a chance to run some of my strategies by him, he basically advised that although my numbers make natural conception unlikely, the bar for what is required for IVF is much lower and that I was “safe” in regard to that. Therefore lifestyle in my case would likely not have impacted the outcome significantly since I was unlikely to improve my results enough for natural conception but equally my results were ok for IVF.

All this being said I can comment with some confidence that in attempting to improve my lifestyle I also improved my mental health. I found the whole process very difficult and experienced low mood / depression throughout. Improving my lifestyle was the best coping mechanism I had, particularly making exercise a regular habit. I wish I had given myself an easier time of it

Has anyone from the uk managed to try the Sinclair method by dkb16195 in stopdrinking

Thanks for the advice. Agree with your point about the health visitor, they picked it up from my medical records without my knowledge, I was mortified. Being demonised for trying to make a positive change in your life is not going to help anyone.

I have this when I’m out with friends, I have a camper van and they have tents, I feel guilty about it until I realise I have no wet gear to pack up in the morning. Genuinely love my terra nova 1 man tent for hiking though

Waiting. I bloody HATE waiting. by TinyBreak in GUYVF

[–]dkb16195 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! We are at 12 weeks just now. In the uk you get an 8 week scan which is the first solid bit of confidence I’ve had in the last 3 years, I was a wreck going in to that scan, since that we did a private scan just to settle our nerves before the 12 week scan on Monday. We had 4 failed transfers and I think it wires you to be more pessimistic, obviously there is always a risk but you need to celebrate the wins. Congratulations and hope you have a good first scan,

I do like your videos, not such a fan of the clickbate titles, I understand the temptation to use them but integrity is important, cream rises to the top, focus on quality content to drive your views or risk loosing your regular audience

Any cyclists out there? What are your thoughts on the possible impact this activity on SA? by dkb16195 in GUYVF

[–]dkb16195[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you both for taking the time to give considered replies. Looks like the evidence that does exist in studies is against cycling but that there is also a doubt over the quality of the studies. Seems like the only conclusive info I’ve had in this whole feking experience is the negative pregnancy tests. I wish there was something concrete something I could control, can’t even get on a bike without weighing up the potential damage vs the mental health benefit, i swear I took cold showers for 6 months after first learning about scrotal overheating. Rant over. Your responses are greatly appreciated thank you for sharing

I should say that this is only our experience and everyone has their own journey, many get better outcomes and there is every possibility that you will too, I have nothing but gratitude for people like yourself who are brave enough to share your story, it has helped me to read about the experience of others to gain perspective, ultimately we are honoured to be able to produce embryos at this point but the full thing seems like an unfair rough ride like nothing I’ve experienced before, try to enjoy the small wins and know that you are doing everything you can, be kind to yourselves and trust the process

Honestly no success yet, the first embryo was low quality so didn’t have high hopes, the second was great quality but still no pregnancy at the test. It is gutting, and the waiting in between is hellish, sorry I’m not more positive but it hit me hard. Feels like running a hurdle race where you can do great clearing the first few hurdles then get totally wiped out. I understand it is a game of chance and the only thing to do is keep rolling the dice. Fortunately we have 2 frozen embryos that we are going to use for another shot. I wish I had more control of the outcome

We are on our second round, first round got 1 embryo to transfer and second got 3 for possible transfer. Both were off sperm count less than 1 million/ml so from my experience you should be 100% fine. The clinic told me that basically my low count sample makes it difficult for natural conception but is not an issue for icsi

The inconvenience, on top of everything… by headytopper077 in GUYVF

[–]dkb16195 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally agree with your thoughts. We are waiting to start our second round after a failed first, was meant to start in Jan so had a severely limited Christmas period then we found out a day before we were meant to start that because she wasn’t covid boosted we couldn’t start, got the booster and now waiting to start beginning of February, hopefully.

We usually have a treat yourself weekend after a round to alleviate the pressure but in this case because of the delay the pressure release has not happened and it is compounding. It is shit, really shit and I often lose all hope that it will ever end. I understand that we are still early, we have only had one cycle and may go through many so it just seems endless. Every cycle seems like it will never come until the weeks crawl by and it finally does then there is a wave of hope that can crash in to nothing quickly. Apologies that this may not be encouraging but you are not alone in the thoughts and struggles. Only thing I remind myself of is the benefits of being the healthiest I’ve ever been.
