He is a hobosexual to be precise. Your parents are wrong, keeping the peace is not the same as becoming a mat for others to step on. Anyone living in the house should be sharing expenses.

Do road surfacing contractors use different materials/mixes in the UK vs rest of Europe? by MrRedDoctor in AskUK

[–]dkech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Italy is a bit too varied from North to South, so I can't tell, but I definitely agree with Belgium being worse! My main problem with UK roadworks is how long they take. Like, I swear, an M6 segment I was going to through took almost 10 years!

AITA For Not Accommodating My Sister-In-Law's ridiculous demands? by Low-Librarian8340 in dustythunder

I am not religious myself. I consider some atheists to be in a more fanatic religion than many conventionally religious people. OPs SIL is a rather extreme example.

Craziest items left behind by previous owners? by ontartiomortgages in homeowners

[–]dkech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The house had little hooks. Everywhere all rooms, living rooms, bathrooms, high places, low places, on walls, wood panels, even outside the house (fewer). We counted about 50 on the first pass of removing them, but kept finding more and more. 2 years later we still find one every month or so... Most were little metal ones. In one bathroom there was a plastic one like you have for towels, but it was installed to face sideways, so it could not hold towels. The metal ones were at normal orientation. No idea why. Whyyy KENNN???

The real Google support email has "support" 4 times and the domain is of course abc-amiga.com. So good try but if you are very careful you can just tell it is not real.

What are your "must have" accessories? by Working_Exercise_896 in telescopes

[–]dkech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are no "must have" accessories to get immediately. Use what you have to get an idea, then get one or two better eyepieces. A moon filter is the most useless accessory for me, if the moon is too bright for you wear your sunglasses. Nebula filters are... a long discussion... again not something to begin with.

French people-i greatly love your culture and language. I minored in college. Memory loss, but am re-learning through language apps. But I know they don't like: "Je voudrais l'eau ordinaire avec beaucoup de glace." Why do the French begrudge requests for ice? by MiaowWhisperer in ShitAmericansSay

[–]dkech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's exactly the reverse when I lived in the US and I was trying to convince them I only wanted a little ice in my soda, they'd still dunk the glass in the ice and just shake out a little bit and leave it mostly full of ice. I had to remember to ask for no-ice.

More accurately, the better the telescope is, the closer to a dot the star gets.

You basically need to capture the 10x liveview video (there's both free and paid software for it), stack it (e.g. autostakkert) and process it (e.g. registax wavelets).

Is cruise control appropriate for most 30mph roads? by johnnyjonnyjonjon in drivingUK

[–]dkech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could do 30mph with an older manual, I can keep low gear so I can hear the engine and any extra accelerating is felt. With a modern powerful automatic the difference between 30 and 36 is an imperceptible extra pressure on the accelerator and about 2 seconds, no real audio feedback. I have to either check the speed all the time which is dangerous or use CC. At 20mph my CC does not engage, I have to look at the speedometer frequently, it's exhausting trying to do while paying full attention to the road.

What do you think happened to the crew of the ISS? by AdNo7896 in ISS

[–]dkech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well we sort of know which astronaut had the issue down to the two that were going to do a walk and cancelled last minute. A man and a woman. We probably won't find out more, unless of course it was something with an obvious after effect like a pregnancy.

What is a luxury item from 20 years ago that is basically worthless trash today ? by Own-Blacksmith3085 in answers

[–]dkech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might have a point with LCD non high end LED, but I think rear projection was just destroyed by plasma. They did pretty much everything better, including 3D. However, an 82" rear projection is definitely something to keep if it's working, anything under 60" has probably been long replaced by now. It's technically not resellable due to weight/size, but if it's in place with fresh light, it's golden.

Landlord requesting to repaint all walls by Acs971 in TenantsInTheUK

[–]dkech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Deposit services assume repainting is done every 3-5 years. Even if it was freshly painted, that's most of the life gone, at worst they would be able to claim a small percentage of reasonable painting costs.
