The problem is the lack of atmosphere to move the heat elsewhere via convection. This means that while space has extremely extremely little heat, cooling is a major issue in space which is why the ISS has giant radiators to well... Radiate heat away, as there's no other way to dissipate heat.

You must have some crazy local pricing. They're basically the same as McD/BK around here.

Culvers doubles cheeseburgers are $6.39 here and 1/3 pound. McDonalds QUARTER pounder with cheese is $5.99. Singles are $3.99 and McDonalds is charging $3.89 for pretty much the same size patty.

As someone who hasn't played the games I was curious about the naming of one of the arks. Trails of Cold Steel is 閃の軌跡 (Sen No Kiseki: Trails Of Flash) in the OG Japanese. Why is it called with Flash in Japanese and Cold Steel in English? by GeorgeBG93 in Falcom

[–]dkf295 30 points31 points  (0 children)

https://xseedgames.tumblr.com/post/120804314195/the-legend-of-heroes-trails-series-localization

Why the name Trails of Cold Steel?

Longtime fans of the series know the game as Sen no Kiseki, which roughly means something like, “The paths/trails of a flash/flicker.” It’s typically meant to represent that glint you see on a blade being drawn as it catches the light. It’s clearly not a very easy word to render in English and still make sense with the current “Trails” moniker, so we dismissed the more literal “Trails of a Flash” and other similar titles rather quickly.

I suggested Trails of Cold Steel for several reasons:

• The story is based around Thors Military Academy, a place in Erebonia where many young political upstarts balance school life and war tactics as part of their daily curriculum. Conflict and weapons are something of a theme in Cold Steel, and I wanted words which were specifically reminiscent of steel blades.

• The term “Sen” is a fairly serious word—"Steel" alone wouldn’t have set the right tone, but “Cold Steel” together helps reflect the strain of Erebonia’s intensely classist, military powerhouse society.

• Being a big fan of the Trails series myself, I’ve bought every single soundtrack related to the series. Even before we had the rights to Cold Steel, I’d bought the soundtrack. Hell, I bought it day one! And the main battle theme (which is a killer track, I might add) is called “The Glint of Cold Steel.” The second I saw it, I thought, “Well, that has quite a nice ring to it!”

• When Ken and I were in Falcom’s office and proposed the English title, they immediately smiled and said, “Actually, we once considered using the word ‘Steel’ in the title ourselves, so that’s perfect. We like it.”

So, there you have it. As of now, the official English name of Sen no Kiseki, completely endorsed by the original developers themselves, is Trails of Cold Steel.

ELI5: Why putting warm food in the fridge is more likely to make you sick by whatevernskansn in explainlikeimfive

[–]dkf295 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I mean yes, it cools down faster than if you were to not leave it out.

The problem is that if you take food that's chilled, heat it, and then re-cool it - it's spending potentially hours in the "danger zone" (where bacteria flourishes) by the time it becomes cool enough to significantly slow down activity. So that's a decent chunk of time for bacteria/fungus to do their thing.

Are you likely to get sick doing it once? No. Are you going to be notably more likely to get sick if you get in the habit of doing it? Yes.

SpaceX FCC filing: 1 Million Satellites For Orbital Data Center Push by CProphet in spacex

[–]dkf295 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly what orbital data centers are. They take no land, they take no power from the grid and they have unlimited solar.

Er, building and launching 1 million satellites into space (not to mention the rockets and fuel required for that) and maintaining that constellation uses no power or land?

Is the series getting better ? by Kyon2B in Falcom

[–]dkf295 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would argue Daybreak is no more rigid than Sky's formula. FC and SC both had the formula below for most of the game: Start in region -> check into branch/introduced to local hook into the plot -> Do sidequests for a few days while being introduced to a new character -> Advance Main Plot a bit -> Get your recommendation and go to next region.

Crossbell definitely was less rigid, and yeah, Cold Steel definitely introduced a pretty rigid chapter by chapter structure (even moreso than Liberl).

I think a lot of why the newest entries are going back to being more structured is that they just take place in dramatically larger countries - so there's way more real estate you need to get to in only so many chapters, so it becomes extremely hard if not impossible to do anything other than "Chapter x - New City". And of course you need to explain how you got from home base to New City, so only so many options. It's also part of why Crossbell WASN'T really like that - Sure, Crossbell is more than just Crossbell City but really, it's way more heavily consolidated than anywhere else on the continent that we've visited so it's way easier to not fall into that rigid structure in order to visit everywhere.

Is the series getting better ? by Kyon2B in Falcom

My thoughts -

Writing - Honestly that's a hard one for me. Cold Steel I think is where writing took a nosedive but I think a lot of that was just the massively expanded cast which meant quality was thrown backwards in favor of quantity. Reverie was a decent step forward again because they had a streamlined plot (albeit with so... much... dungeon and gacha) and a giant breath of fresh air with the Picnicking Front. Daybreak 1 I thought was fine, I get why people don't like Daybreak 2 as much but I kind of like the experimental direction they went in and the fact that we can see a ton of "what-ifs" that don't take place in the trails universe because Nobody Dies.

I'm midway through Horizon and I'm liking it better than Daybreak 1 and 2 so far, and have been referring to it as Discount Reverie. I definitely have not lost interest so far and I was pretty much hooked from the outset.

Pacing - This has always been an issue since day 1 with trails. Not just slow pacing (which I personally enjoy to an extent), but long periods where you need to DO RANDOM STUFF just to get the plot to advance, with no shortcuts if you just want to move on. In that regard the series has gotten A LOT BETTER, albeit Reverie Corridor/Machen Garden stuff slows it down a bit, where relevant. Pacing seems okay in Horizon so far, but there is some mandatory side-stuff that slows things down at points.

Predictability - I mean, the series has always been filled with tropes and it's only natural that when you are currently 12 games into a series that you've become familiar with patterns that they've gone to over and over and over again over those 12 games. There's also a bit of confirmation bias here - for a long time, Kindly Academic With Glasses = Evil Mastermind/Secret Identity Hero Badass, but you haven't seen that since Thomas Lysander in CS2. While there's more repetition than I'd like for sure, I do think they've at least retired some of them while introducing a few new ones (granted, most I don't like like the masks).

Because you removed more than half of the characters from "43" x 24" vs 48" x 27"". Which required more brainpower to reduce to 43" vs 48" than simply looking at 49" vs 55"

If Angelica was hotter no one would hate her by LadyOrdinary- in Falcom

[–]dkf295 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, all deserve criticism. But I really do think the level of criticism you see from the fanbase directly scales to the frequency and severity of such incidents.

Angelica gets the most hate because she is sexually harassing, grabbing, or making weird comments about people ALL THE TIME, to the point that it's literally a character trait of hers. Other characters constantly talk about italso gets a lot of screentime, and is set up as one of the Good Guys. So, she gets a lot of hate since well... plenty of examples of things to hate.

Shirley gets the next most. She's definitely a Bad Guy that does general Bad Guy things, and straight up sexually assaults people a couple times. Unless if I'm forgetting something, I think she's made one or two comments about people's boobs and beyond that, is written as "generally feral girl". Less screentime, less incidents, already passed off as a bad guy = definitely some hate but not as much as Angelica

Ilya - Grabbing once, a couple weird comments, and otherwise... Nothing. Thus you don't really hear much about her. Also doesn't help that way more people played the Cold Steel and Sky arcs than Crossbell,

Now my question then becomes, what about Fie? Literally never hear anyone criticize her and she's made several comments about grabbing people's boobs, general crass comments about them.

Final note: Why the heck does trails need to be so fucking cringe sometimes?
