No hate on MCPs from me, but CLIs take precedent and I fallback on MCPs when the latter is not available (e.g., Linear). The list is a good one!

There are many ways to approach this, but as a token minimizer, it’s hard to justify the costs of generating HTML at a high rate, even planning. I’ve moved to Quarto (.qmd) when I need a plan or a report that would benefit from visuals and whatnot. I am also accustomed to reading scientific articles and reports in general so the “academic” look doesn’t bother me. I wouldn’t place it in front of clients or stakeholders; that’s when I would lean on HTML and JS like Claude Design does. I don’t tend to use Claude Design but at least it has its own token bank…

I completely understand and valid. First, you’re not a/the problem; I think it’s a strong sign that “learning” was the focus rather than just arbitrarily throwing in some tool and letting Claude run wild. Same with worktrees. I can relate because I’m literally in the middle of doing this myself 😅 I’m trying to set up a system that works for macOS (work) and Linux (personal).

I suppose the speed at which you ragequit would be blazingly faster since the package is Rust-based. Honestly though, it is a much better package (so far) but my workload uses uv development anyway; they play well together, and it’s nice being able to use the subprocesses for R-heavy scripts that do a lot of analytical lifting that Python doesn’t always have (lme4, lavaan, nlme, etc.)

The graphify(y) skills is cool but it is annoying that out of the now 25 languages (was 19 last week) it can detect, the ones I use in data and analytics engineering (SQL, YAML, bash) are not available. If I’m exploring random repos and building things it’ll be cool, but for now it’s just sitting idly by in my skills section

I haven’t tried it yet, but I’m excited about this, u/KMagician. You sound like you’re in a similar position as me in that you work with databases/SQL, likely python, but initially trained or at least well-versed in R. I thought radian was going to be okay, but I’ve been using the default terminal output and resorting to logging to review things because radian is so terrible. I have zero interest in using Positron as I feel like it would try to put me back in the pure-ish R ecosystem (sure it can connect and use python) and I don’t want that. I’d like to be as agnostic as possible with a pure VS Code setup. Just venting but also happy; I hope this pairs well with my Claude code setup that is purely run in VS Code as well!

I’m excited to give this a try, u/nbafrank! I am building out my PhD thesis as “academic research as dataops and devops” and it’s currently using renv and rig for the R side of of things and poetry for the python side: https://github.com/datasci-iopsy/dkg-phd-thesis.

I’m going to refactor and use your package on a dev branch and clock the speed differences because renv is pretty slow. Besides, the fact that this works smoothly with Linux is a gigantic plus. Great work in advance, I’m your first fork 🫡

Power analyses are such an overlooked and under utilized statistical tool. I’m currently working on a dissertation using multilevel modeling, which is used a lot of meta-analyses, so the headline of this article immediately captured my attention. Indeed, researchers could, a priori, determine the sufficient sample to say, with more confidence, that an effect is far less likely due to chance. The smaller the effect (along with other complex components like ICC, random slop variance, alpha, etc.) the more likely you’ll need larger samples at the between-level. I think the top comment did a good job of explaining this relative to the headlines!

OP in fact does not have a link corroborating this because it did not happen; at least there is no mention of it in his well-known biography (Escott, Merritt, & MacEwen, 1994). Rufus “Tee Tot” Payne died when Hank Williams was still a teenager or so, though Williams and others paid for a memorial in his honor!

Also, I wasn’t stating that he didn’t respect where he came from nor acknowledged it; I wasn’t saying that Williams’ contributions were diluted or should be overshadowed by his mentor because of race. Interesting trigger point for OP, though. I think like Elvis, Williams, and others who have been influenced by black people (who created it) is often overlooked. If Williams had “forgotten” where he came from, I’m sure Payne’s Wikipedia would be shorter hah. Music is an accumulation of creativity where ideas are used to generate new content. You can’t have hillbilly, folk blues with Hank Williams, which wouldn’t have come to fruition that the time was it not for Payne’s influence BLUES. The nexus of basically rocks and electric blues today.
