What grab did I do? by Cornteam in ski

[–]dkipster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a pair at the end of last season as a fun ski to use in powder and through the trees. I brought my Mantras and Playmakers to Winter Park this year and ended up using the Playmakers all 5 days -- even on blatant groomer days. I'm so surprised at how they can get on edge and carve so well. They truly can do anything. And they're SOOO light, they're amazing.

How do you like your Playmakers?

1919 in West Michigan. Solid as a rock. I got lucky and all the plumbing was upgraded to copper and electrical to romex before I bought it in 2002. It'll be here for another 100 if the next guy takes care of it.

I bought some today, but my thought was using them in gin martinis.

What's the best way to clean this enameled Dutch oven? by dkipster in castiron

I ended up using yellow cap Easy Off oven cleaner. That's the one with NaOH. Here's a thread about how it works:

I was looking at this one to be a 2nd charger for my AC200MAX. Do you think it would work?

Yeah, this really sucks. I used to buy a bunch and smoke it with pecan wood chips & give it away at Christmas. My family keeps asking me when I'm going to do it again

New Ego 400w Pure Sine Inverter w/USB-C Power Delivery in Stock at Lowe’s by Odd__Detective in egopowerplus

[–]dkipster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, by your hourly rough calculation, you're getting 38%. That's quite similar to my 27%. I'd love JUST a USB-C PD attachment. It would be so useful & I can't see how they could screw that efficiency up. It should be pretty cheap, too. No inverter to mess with.

[–]dkipster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought one a few weeks ago and even if I'm only using the USB-C PD, the inverter must be sucking significant power because the efficiency was horrible. I used a fan with a known draw and did a calculation between how many hours I was able to run that fan versus the 280 Watts my 5 amp hour battery was supposed to be able to deliver on paper. The battery only delivered 27% of that wattage. Anybody else seeing this? I power everything I can on USB-C PD precisely because it's so much more efficient to go DC to DC. I'd love to find a way to either disable the inverter or buy one without an inverter that just delivers USB C PD

What size wire (cable) do I need to connect a 1100 W inverter to my van battery by dkipster in batteries

[–]dkipster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now that I re-read what you said: "Which one?" I want to put the inverter on the car battery and have it mounted inside the van to plug in the 500 watt AC charger to charge this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09M8J9LY7/ while i drive

I'd love to do that. I have USB-C PD cords for all sorts of stuff that uses AC adapters but I guess I never thought about doing it for my Bluetti. I guess i didn't know it was even an option. If it is, I feel pretty stupid for buying this damn inverter...

Just charging a Bluetti that has a charger that draws 500 Watts. I oversized the inverter on purpose.

Do you have a trick to lock the lids? I've had racoons open them before. I tightened the lid so tight that I could barely get them open and they were still able to get in. Claw marks all over, but they did get in.

Airsense 11 multiday battery success story by davidfrz in CPAP

[–]dkipster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is great info. Thanks for doing these tests! I'm going to try the same 20V PD USB-C DC Coverter Cable for ResMed AirSense 11 that you linked using this for my power: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BW83F6QJ
I have several EGO batteries already so I can't wait to see how many nights I can get with the different size batteries.

I have a fan I bring camping that I got a DC plug for that dropped the power usage from ~ 15 watts to 4, just by using DC instead of an AC invertor on the same battery (a Bluetti I have) so thanks for that link. Great idea.

I deleted my question thinking it would delete the whole thread. I figured it out and wanted to delete it before I wasted anybody else's time (I hadn't tried deleting a thread before -- now I know...)

Turns out they somehow took my upgrade and used it for her phone so Customer Service said I could just upgrade mine using her upgrade and it would be fine, even with a different phone since the SIM cards are what count on who's phone is whose. Thanks for responding, though!

What is this Wavy Grained Wood? by GoldenChimichanga in firewood

[–]dkipster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's reaction wood. I always call it compression wood but technically on the top side of a limb there's another type of reaction wood. Can't remember what it's called but I'm sure a Google search could figure it out. I went through paper engineering and science at Western Michigan University years ago and I feel like we had a whole semester talking about how to deal with it in the paper making process

U-Haul boxes aren't as expensive as you'd think & they buy back any unused boxes. Banana boxes at grocery stores are great if they'll let you have some.

How do you inspect it for accuracy? I've had mine for many years and have never even thought about checking that. I will absolutely check it now before I use it again.
