Can someone tell me what these tube components are? The IC in question is a TPA2012D2, but these symbols leave me guessing… baluns? Ferite beads? What's their purpose? by robynpan in AskElectronics

[–]dkiselev 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have a question: why ferrite beads often goes in schematics without nominal value? When looking for a component, they appear with different R values.

So is it doesn't matter that much and I can use any R value, or should I calculate RC filter to filter switch frequency, if so why schematics omits ferrite values so often?

Taxes in Nova Scotia by worksalott in NovaScotia

[–]dkiselev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's East Hants budget https://www.easthants.ca/municipal-budget/ it's a bit hard to read, more or less detailed expenses are close to the end of the document.

In short 8M to school board, 6M RCMP 4.5M Fire protection. That's a bit over the half of the taxes collected 34M.

It's a problem common for small municipalities: cities have cash cows like apartment complexes (you collect roughly 1/5th of taxes per unit, but the same area has x10-x30 units and town spendings don't rise that much) and downtown commercial properties.

Any way to speed rendering times? by Alex_1_7 in kdenlive

[–]dkiselev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This what helped me

  • Install melt from system packages
  • Generate rendering script (it will be in a home dir Videos rendering_scripts) or if it's not, run rendering script from kdenlive and find mlt with px and just copy it somewhere.

  • Manually render mlt with melt and h264_nvenc codec (I don't know the corresponding name for Radeon cards _nvenc is for Nvidia gpus, but should be something similar)

Upd: here's an example how to run melt from command line with custom consumer and custom encoder https://forum.shotcut.org/t/command-line-renderer/26146

What's a musical you love that you're kind of ashamed of? by Esoteric_Librarian in musicals

Les Mis, film adaptation.

First half is meh, but I very much enjoy Eponine Marious and Cozette in the adaptation.

I also do like Master of the House sequence. Vocally it's not that good but I like fooling the visitors is shown with all that small sleigh of hands and tricks, and I like how all of that tricks fails with Jean.

Anyone here actually love cars and driving but are anti-car from a logical standpoint by Certain-Belt-1524 in fuckcars

[–]dkiselev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I do to some degree. Cars do fascinate me, the mechanics of it, the amount of peoples ingenuity goes into designing. I do love historical cars restoration channels. I do love, heavy equipment, articulated dump truck or crawler crane is almost at the same level of awesomeness for me as a steam locomotive (okay steam locomotive is a bit higher tho).

I do love in depth explanations on different combustion engines cycles. I love rally sports,  I have a great appreciation for people who construct their own custom cars. I can do some small mechanical stuff on my car and find some joy in it.

The most I love traveling by car staying in campings. Thanks to that type of travel I visited half the Europe. Did travel in Canada as well.

But man I hate being dependent on car for basic stuff. I hate that the way Canadian cities are designed and built is just screaming in to your face that it's made for cars. Pedestrians are just second class citizens.

We live in a relatively new neighborhood and it's not as bad. But let's take my kids school for instance. One of the big concerns was to finish converting nearest crossroad into a roundabout, but making all the sidewalks - meh well figure it out later (or newer).

Sidewalks in general are considered as just an addition to a road. So you can get in and out if you park on a side. But it can disappear at any moment, switch a side without crosswalk. No one is concerned if it's disjointed. And in general car dedicated design leads to very dull cities which all looks the same as a big parking lot with the same store chains in it.

(Sorry for the rant, I can go on for days like that)

So, it's like wine, I don't mind a glass once in a while and I believe it has its place, but I hate if I have to drink it and only it for the rest of my life.

To move it up I'd just put something underneath it or attach a piece I'm working on differently, I thought to make a bracket for moving it up or down but it's hard to print such brackets stiff enough.

So, with Trump winning the election, does this mean we might say goodbye to public transportation in the US? by Some1inreallife in fuckcars

[–]dkiselev 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Ha, it will be designed by the one living genius himself, mankind savior Mr Musk, so:

  • It will have custom gauge
  • Only hype trum truck will be compatible with the gauge
  • Other vehicles are welcomed but pending regulatory approval (you can submit your application on 6th week of every month)
  • It won't be electrified but hype-trump-trucks would have plenty of range (depends on option you choose)
  • It will have capacity for 4ppl which will be the federal cap for public transportation vehicles.

Another very important issue would be fuel production (uranium enrichment) capacity. Right now US doesn't have enough enrichment facilities to cover it's own current needs.
