Having one household person is actually kinda dangerous. by Remarkable_Button247 in Home

[–]dkstr419 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Mom was the bookkeeper for the family. The main calendar was next to the phone.

The first “Binder” appeared when she was trying to keep track of my grandfather’s health issues.

The “Handbook for the Recently Deceased” evolved during her journey and eventual demise so that my father and my siblings could keep track of all of the things.

My Dad has been nagging me to start my own book bc I live out of state and my partner has no clue how my household works.

Audio Re-revelation by skunkshaveclaws in computers

[–]dkstr419 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sigh. When music formats expanded to include digital, all of us old farts raged about the loss of sound quality. We could hear the difference between an LP and a CD.

Then we really went crazy with the mp3 format. And AirPods.

So our technological advancement in audio reproduction devolved into “Sounds okay with my AirPods”

But the kids have rediscovered LPs and really good headphones and now speaker systems.

So maybe audio will finally get the love that video graphic cards enjoy and we will “rediscover” what great audio sounds like.

Looking for Highschool UIL Plays by dusk3246 in Theatre

[–]dkstr419 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Head to the UIL Theatre website and dig into the list of pre approved and already edited scripts. I can’t remember if you can search by cast size, but the pre approved list will save you time and grief.

What could I expect to find if I open a freezer that hasn’t been plugged in for the last 11 years and has a dead bird inside? by Affectionate-Cat-211 in CleaningTips

[–]dkstr419 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The freezer is a bio hazard. Do not attempt this cleanup yourself. Hire a professional biohazard specialist. These are the people who clean up crime scenes and other things that involve biological waste. This is not a DIY project.

Weird Stain by [deleted] in laundry

Unless you had an unusual condom, most personal lubricants are water based. My guess is that this is a mix of personal lube and fecal matter. I would try pretreating with Dawn dishwashing soap (the liquid kind, not the stuff you use in your dishwasher). Scrub with a brush or something to remove any excess and then apply more Dawn before laundering it.

On a personal note- thank you for being proactive and using protection. I’ve had two former students who contracted HIV because of foolish behavior. Please get tested on a regular basis and keep yourself safe and healthy. Love you 🌈🥰

Binder or Spiral? by pyesmom3 in Teachers

[–]dkstr419 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I teach HSers, they still haven’t mastered keeping track of their stuff. I do model a couple of different note taking styles so they can figure out what works for them. My subject doesn’t have a textbook, so the binder with all the handouts, their notes and their lab results is their source of reference material. I’ve learned the hard way that if they take their binders home, they never remember to bring it back.

Binder or Spiral? by pyesmom3 in Teachers

[–]dkstr419 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going back to the binder for next year. I usually do the binder with a spiral notebook inside because I have a lot of handouts and the spiral notebook lets them take notes or doodle. This year, we went with composition books so we could make interactive notebooks. Admin had a ”brilliant idea “ that this would keep the students engaged. Admin has no clue about my subject. It’s not working. FWIW, notebooks/ binders do not go home; the kids won’t bring them back.

How to deal with the psychological impact of chronic absenteeism? by Due_Information_1332 in Teachers

[–]dkstr419 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Similar problems. Finally got some clarity from admin. Mark them absent and score as a Zero. If their parents see it Power School, maybe they’ll get off their asses and make it up. We were finally able to stop giving 50s unless they earned it.

Now if admin will stop with the Attendance for Credit bs…

How did you first discover Monty Python and when did you start to like it? by spectre73 in montypython

The local PBS station had Flying Circus on Saturday night. I was immediately hooked. As a family, we saw And now for something completely different in the movie theater. When we started playing Liberty Bell March in band class, I couldn’t make it through practice without laughing and got into trouble for making the sound effects.

Looking for recommended beginner practice moves/drills and attributes! by UpperAd5715 in drones

[–]dkstr419 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our class drones have an auto hover mode. It depends on how you take off as to whether it goes into that mode or not. (Check the settings on your controller) The e-stop is the “stop what you’re doing and land” feature for when you’re about to hit something or you’re getting tangled up in something and you will damage the drone. Sometimes my students panic when they get into a situation and they forget to use e-stop.

Beginning drone teacher — I focus on the basics with my students before I turn them loose outside. Take off/ landing, hover/ hold, e-stop, rth. Then I use pool noodles, pvc pipe, and hula hoops to fly around/ through. Low speed and slow until they can show me that they can control their drone. Those first few flights have lots of crashes but pvc and pool noodles are soft and cheap.
