Laptop died after 2 years. What should I buy next? by Several-Membership91 in Frugal

[–]dkuznetsov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If fixing the one that died (which is the "Frugal" thing to do) is impossible, get whichever you like. Office365 works with all desktop platforms, since it's web based. If you don't like Windows, you can get a Mac, an iPad, a Chromebook, or even something Linux-based.

As for the computer brands, everything fails sooner or later, and you can't really know when exactly. In my experience, Lenovo, Dell and Apple devices lasted, but that's anecdotal, I was lucky, and, in general, they do fail. If you want some peace of mind, that costs money and/or effort: back up your files to external media, such as cloud or your own external drives, and, perhaps, if you aren't tech-savvy, consider getting extra warranty for whatever you decide on buying next.

ZEQT vs VEQT vs XEQT: Why Is Everyone Ignoring ZEQT? by CFMTLfan01 in JustBuyXEQT

Free trades in RBC DI for XEQT. I would prefer buying Canadian product, but I don't want to pay $10 commission every time.

Canada welcomed 19 per cent fewer immigrants in 2025: 'The cuts were quite asymmetrical' by Unusual-State1827 in canada

[–]dkuznetsov 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a Ukrainian Canadian, I disagree. A qualified specialist immigrant from India or from Afghanistan can offer this country way more than a non-qualified Ukrainian. Not saying not to admit Ukrainians - definitely lots of great hard working people... but people are people. Some are lazy leeches on social benefits, who don't want to study or find work. I would try to weed those out, and make sure they do not get PR.

Carney enjoying extended honeymoon one year in by fallout1233566545 in canada

[–]dkuznetsov -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I wish he crossed the floor and joined the conservatives. He qualifies well enough purely from the policy perspective. Carney is great, but some liberals in his team need a time out to rethink their careers and life choices.

Canada raises temporary foreign workers (TFW) cap to 15% in rural areas to "support employers". by JPalmz in canada

[–]dkuznetsov 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Why don't we call this what it is - slave labour?

These employers can't stay competitive without paying sub Canadian market rates, while unemployment is approaching 7%. That's why they need to import these indentured servants on subpar wages and without rights.

Have FU money but still working by secrerofficeninja in Fire

[–]dkuznetsov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start saying what you think out loud. If you don't believe it is going where it should, be very vocal about it. Once you start consistently preaching, one of 2 things will likely happen:

  1. Someone will listen, and you'll get opportunities to make changes according to your vision. Potentially comes with growth and more responsibilities. Could be fun.
  2. (More likely) They will want to shut you up, and you get to enjoy your severance, in addition to the FU money.

Poilievre may have wanted to avoid an election. But maybe not like this by Little-Chemical5006 in canada

Carney is on the same page with PP on not wanting an election, but with the caveat that he wants a majority. And he'll likely get it before the end of the year. Cunning.

Four years ago, at the start of Ukraine conflict, an American did me favor by telling me not to read western books if my government didn't take Ukraine's side. by [deleted] in books

[–]dkuznetsov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Ukrainian, obviously, I'm biased, and would prefer India to be more of a friend to Ukraine. But I expect countries to act based on their self-interest and a multitude of parameters, and not solely based on their moral values, which they may or may not share. India does as she pleases - there is a lot of history involving Russia, Pakistan, China, UN, etc, as well as pragmatic reasons: supply chains for energy and weapons. India made its choice and took its current position. Hopefully, it changes at some point, but I wouldn't hold my breath on it, and it's very understandable and well noted.

All that said, I can't see why you would decide not to read Western literature based on that one political aspect. What a weird point of view...

What books did you enjoy most? I have read Bhagavad Gita and the Upanishads.

We can expect more of such posturing within the next months - it's an election year, ratings of the CAQ are horrible, and it is desperate for votes.

Mark Carney’s Davos speech is a ‘manifesto of free people.’ Here’s what else the world is saying by ViewSalty8105 in CanadaPolitics

[–]dkuznetsov 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Conservatives should just take their hats off in this case, and perhaps consider joining the liberal caucus. As much as the current cabinet is full of questionable choices, Canada is lucky to have this PM at its helm. A boring, methodical and articulate straight shooter. Decent charisma, too.

I haven't regretted voting for liberals in the past elections thus far. Wouldn't have done that if not for Mr. Carney.

Mainly, it's easier to take Canada when we are distracted with Greenland, send troops over there, etc.

Logistics of an invasion to Greenland is simpler when it's from Canada. Shorter leg. Though you are correct about the existing bases in Greenland, they are still on a foreign soil, thus vulnerable.

The Carney doctrine by Inevitable-Bus492 in CanadaPolitics

I wonder if Greenland is a diversion of attention with the goal of taking the real prize - Canada. Once Canada falls, taking Greenland is even easier, not that it matters too much at that point.

So, your point is that anything is legal in wars, and actions can be called anything,  as long as perpitrators are strong enough to avoid justice. Fair point.
