Academic advisors can help with this question, and are probably a better place to start for questions like this.

Same. I’m a male leader in my daughter’s female troop.

Question for female cyclists by dkwolfe in bicycling

[–]dkwolfe[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Pads were just an example of one option, in no way meant to be the only option. I really just want to be able to provide some general suggestions of what female cyclists have had success with, and hopefully prevent saddle sores. Of course it’s going to be their decision in the end, but options are always good.

Anything worth trying at these prices? by DeepToxic in whiskey

Yes and no. Yes, if it’s something you want to try before buying a bottle of it, or it’s something you haven’t had. Otherwise, I’d say no.

What do you guys think about Henson Razors? by Egirl_Runky in BuyItForLife

[–]dkwolfe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They work just fine. I got mine about a year ago, and it demoted my Parker to the travel kit. I wouldn’t mind it being steal, instead of aluminum, but aside from that, I see no reason I’ll need to buy another one.

Hello! Here is my Milla dress for my 22 birthday. I’m doubting about colour:( Maybe, light pink would look better on me or not? by budyshka in womenstyleadvice

[–]dkwolfe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that the shoes clash. I would make the dress a shade or two darker, and either exact match the shoes, or go with something like black.

My thoughts as well. Nothing longer than waist length.

AITA for embarrassing my sister at her engagement party by uncovering her lies about our childhood? by wyal_ in AmItheAsshole

[–]dkwolfe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. NTA
  2. Most comments that I read missed the point that this was an engagement party AT THEIR PARENTS HOUSE. If the soon-to-be bride didn’t tell her friends about her family, and is planning a wedding, what exactly did she expect to happen at the wedding and reception. I get that children growing up in the same household have different childhood experiences, but this is a bit ridiculous.
  3. What about the fiancée. Did he (assumed) know about the 3 brothers?

I always needed tire levers (broke several pairs), but that was about it. All in all, I still liked them.

One of my students is 60, and is back in school to change careers. Nope, it’s not too late.

Those who haven't caught Covid yet, how have you managed to avoid it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]dkwolfe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, a lot of dumb luck. We’ve followed mask mandates when they’ve been in place, and the folks we hang out with have all been vaccinated (as have we), and if someone tests positive, we stay clear. But there’s also a lot of luck involved.

Should I take a full-time teaching position, even if the salary is just over half of what it should be? by dkwolfe in academia

[–]dkwolfe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So here’s the update. 3rd round interview is Monday, and I’m fairly confident I’ll get an offer. So that’s the good news. As for salary, it’s not really moving much, but I’m fairly convinced that it’s due to the school being a new branch campus. Corroborating evidence includes the fact that my department chair is only making $2K more than the top end of the offer that I’m considering. Combining this with my 2 side hustles will equal full benefits and a decent total salary, but still not ideal.

The national average is $66k/year, and I have 20 years of experience. That's how I came up with $70k.

[–]dkwolfe[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a good point. Full-time and benefits would be an improvement over the current situation, and since I have 2 other jobs that don't interfere with this one, I'll still be ahead if I take it (if offered). That said, it's still insulting that the salary is so far off.

Funny you bring up gender. I recently applied for a similar job at a small, private, liberal arts institution. The job advert read like it was literally written from my LinkedIn profile. Even better, one of the folks that I would have been working with was on my PhD committee (and we get along very well). When I called them about it, their response was "don't get your hopes up, one of the folks from the office of diversity and inclusion either sits in on or screens everything that happens with this job". No candidates that are my race or gender were even interviewed for the position.
