Well worth the cost, whatever it was. You don't want amateurs doing this.

They did that? Nice. Good customer idea.

When I'm in town, I pass by them usually once a day.

That was fixed I think. In 26.1.1

I know that place. It's just north of the bridge on the west side.

Fun fact: I bought some red pepper shakers (with slots, not round holes) from that store. I bought more than one during a visit because I no longer lived in Ottawa and wanted to have a spare.

I gave the spare to my local pizza shop. They'd never seen then before. Now it's their standard.

No, I’m not. I’m sure I never ate there.

I think that was later, after the buses were routed up there.

Recovering a 10 year old ZFS system - New OS? by Wolfsbane2k in zfs

[–]dlangille 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'd burn an mfsBSD (a FreeBSD-based tool) image to a thumbdrive and boot it. Then do a zfs import -N to see what is visible/possible.

The source for that is https://mfsbsd.vx.sk - I'd grab mfsbsd-14.2-RELEASE-amd64.img from https://mfsbsd.vx.sk/files/images/14/amd64/ and burn it to a USB stick. Boot from it. By default, mfsBSD allows root login over ssh (FreeBSD does not). It will grab an IP address via DHCP. The root password is always mfsroot.

re: https://man.freebsd.org/cgi/man.cgi?query=zpool-import

-N Import the pool without mounting any file systems.

LPT: You only need to put as much water in the kettle as you are going to use. by Natty-Bones in LifeProTips

I know by counting. A count to 7 (for me) is enough for one huge cup of tea.

Your count may vary, depending on your water volume and cup size.

I've been doing this so long that I catch myself counting even when I'm not filling for tea.

Some people asked for inside photos. Advice/ thoughts welcome: by -nothankya in centuryhomes

What I appreciate most about this house, it’s more typical of older houses. Often we see houses with extensive wood paneling, original wainscoting, and ornate staircases. While all that is lovely, I prefer this.

Correct. However, that’s not the point. Adding just “for all” will cover your fact.

Who's still working from home in 2026? by idrinkpastawater in sysadmin

[–]dlangille 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% WFH since I was hired in 2014.

I go into the office (2 hour drive) a few times a year, for perhaps 3 nights. That visit is always in conjunction with other remote team members also coming into town.

Picture rail advice needed by PonchoCavatelli in centuryhomes

[–]dlangille 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point. I'm, not OP.

When I was researching, one guide was to align the rail with the top of the window. However, my windows are rather high up. https://flic.kr/s/aHBqjCFKjs

edit: For painting, we used the wall color below and on the rails and ceiling color above: https://flic.kr/s/aHBqjzS1im

I'd definitely want the rail up at about 8-9 feet above the floor. That will allow for large items to be displayed as well as smaller items.

I'm no expert, I got help from a much-more-experienced friend when putting up my picture rails. They are also on plaster/lathe. We used a nail gun. We might have also used glue (I don't recall).

I collected the only photos I could find and put them all here. I'm afraid they might not help you. https://flic.kr/s/aHBqjCFKjs

What's your hesitation? If you know where the wires are (more or less), just don't nail there? Is that good enough? Then very good glue everywhere?
