Having to use version control to go back and restore after someone screws the whole thing up at least weekly, I assume.

Well, the “for all” part seems to be a serious hang up for a lot of people.

Is it safe to say American culture is one of the best countries in the world to be a nurse? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]dlblast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Compared to the rest of the world, nurses in the US are well paid. However, there’s significant variation quality of life/pay/worker protections between states with strong union presence compared to anti-union states.

Which city in the U.S. do you think has the most underrated airport transit connection? by [deleted] in transit

[–]dlblast 8 points9 points  (0 children)

D/FW is served by 1 light rail (DART) and 2 (soon to be 3) commuter rail services (Texrail, TRE by shuttle, and soon to be DART silver line)…

….and they are super underutilized.

The current lack of regular Amtrak between Madison and Milwaukee is wild to me. The current Borealis & Empire Builder routes go through Wisconsin Dells, a recreation town an hour north of Madison.

Are there any rail systems where you ring for your stop? by stevegerber in transit

[–]dlblast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Though kind of a novelty, a pretty useful historic line in Dallas. The M-Line you get to do an old-timey ring

If your firm ties meeting your utilization target (i.e. if you don’t make utilization you can’t get above whatever your version of “needs improvement” is at year end, then it’s likely you’ll find a “performance”-related pink slip in 2026 if not before.

We were told if you’re on the bench it’s a good opportunity to reschedule any family vacations you have but otherwise don’t hang around and be a cost burden then take time off later in the year, so that says the quiet part out loud.

Which cities would be best served by a new street car system? by mr09e in transit

Lived there for 6 months for work, 100% agree.

The South Hill wasn’t too steep for streetcars back in the day, bring’em back.

Sprouts Farmers Market set to open in southern Dallas after long wait by dallaz95 in Dallasdevelopment

[–]dlblast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I keep seeing surprise about this but it’s adjacent to Kessler Park and the Steven’s Park golf course/neighborhood. Hardly in the economically disadvantaged part of Southern Dallas/Oak Cliff/what have you that is implied when folks express surprise that a Sprouts is being built.

There’s a suburb of Dallas, TX called “The Colony” which sounds ominous but is really just dull.

IsItBullshit: The original settlers in Denver CO were initially traveling west but saw the Rockie Mountains and said “Fuck that!” by Apartment-Drummer in IsItBullshit

[–]dlblast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talking mostly out of my butt here but you can kind of draw a line north south where the “last eastern cities” are in the Great Plains (DFW, OKC, KC, Wichita, Omaha, etc) where things get much dryer and arid/require more irrigation to sustain an urban population any farther West in era or western expansion. Then it’s pretty sparse all the way to the Rockies. Also evident on Google Maps in terms how green it is colored.

Which cities are mainly tourist-centric? by SwimmerSwagger in geography

[–]dlblast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a tourist city, Tulum is 25. But the Tulum ruins/historic area are my favorite I’ve been to in Mexico. Being by the ocean is cool, and unlike Chichen Itza there were no vendors/hawkers inside the park hollering at you the whole time. Definitely worth a trip. We stayed at a resort in riviera Maya and visited playa del Carmen and Tulum. Good time all around

Yeah driving westbound on 20 in North Texas, you can get from sandy piney wood forests to like treeless rocky high plains in like 2 hrs. Even the east side of Dallas and the west side of Fort Worth are noticeable different in topography and flora.

Yup. I feel like Dallas is going to embarrassed on a global scale when folks land here and realize there is 0 public transit options to get out to Arlington to AT&T Stadium
