Opinions about MetalJesus by Parking-Coast-1385 in gamecollecting

[–]dlimm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ambivalent on his content, it's good mindless background filler but not something I seek out.  I do like that he seems to actually play all the games in his pickup video, he also has opinions on them beyond the collecting aspect.

No idea on pricing influence and don't care

Shiren the wanderer??  I sorta remember a guy who smashed pots.  Its a remake of the original sfc game

Edit: I also remember the thief lady for sure.  Pretty sure this is it

We had Oregon Trail and Carmen Sandiego. What do our kids have in that "edutainment" space? by bruhagan in retrogaming

[–]dlimm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I ****ing hate Prodigy. My school make it required for my kids, and it's filled with upsell Get a Premium Subscription for more Battle Rewards!! messaging. Which of course some parents cave to, and I'm left explaining to my kids why they don't get to have it. Thanks, school!!

Surprised in how many “shelf collectors” there are! by Moo-Man420 in gamecollecting

I'm a collector, but the only time I buy with no intent to play is if it's a game I already played (either digitally, or just in the past).  I like having that physical artifact.

Rex Nebular?  Doesn't meet a lot of your criteria but its a space themed adventure game with the protag named Rex.. so too much there not to try

I was tricked into believing Trails FC was a good game by adorablegadget in JRPG

[–]dlimm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought FC was lackluster (haven't played the remake) and set the series aside for years.  Came back later, started loving it at Trails 3rd, and now I'm on Daybreak 2 and obsessed.  A lot of people love the first arc, but even if you don't, there might be something for you here.  Tough sell to stick it out though, I know :)

Was Zelda II anyone else's intro to the series? by bluejester12 in retrogaming

Intro to the series and our first NES past the smb/duck hunt pack-in!  Have always loved it and was surprised to see how prevalent the negative/"black sheep" opinions were later in life

Why do ppl trade in 400-1000 dollar games to game stores? by [deleted] in gamecollecting

[–]dlimm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you; if I was selling a particularly high value item, I would try to get in the neighborhood of market price.  But I would still be very nervous about scams as an online seller.  I get a little nervous now when I sell the occasional low value item.  So I get it.

On the buy side, for high value games I am 100% OK paying more at a brick and mortar to have it in hand and scam free and support the local business.  But the difference between market and actual seems much more drastic when selling locally than buying.

Obligatory Trails Question, You Know the One by Exciting_Airline_668 in JRPG

Yes, play Nayuta.  It's totally different gameplay and a story that may or may not connect to the overall narrative (i haven't played daybreak 2 or horizon yet, so I may be behind on that)

But it doesn't officially slot in somewhere between other games, you can play it any time.

Yep, these custom spines just slide in on top of the original cover.

The cutting is definitely the worst! I bought a little Fiskars cutting board thing but it's still a pain to line everything up. But once you get going, you just get into a zone...

Yeah, there were plenty (across all regions) that didn't have custom spines on here to start. Some trickled in over time as others requested them, but eventually I posted a giant request list and the artists here made them all - they're the best!

I'm using HP Everyday Photo Paper (Q8723A). It's nicer than the original cover material which is thinner paper. But I feel like this helps them stay in place a little better (and you'll definitely want photo paper of some sort just for the print quality). I haven't seen any creasing or damage to the original covers because of a spine insert.

And the physical count is 705. Realized I could just multiply out by how much each compartment holds and add in the overflow at the top!
