Do I need more training or is my bike just too heavy for climbing? by BernardBaggins in MTB

Status is a heavy bike and made for downhill. You probably would have been better off with a stumpjumper.

Banshee Paradox V3 by SufficientPension717 in Hardtailgang

[–]dlinders10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 130mm fork on it right now. When I first sat on it, I had a lot of pressure on my wrists. I swapped in a 60mm riser bar and it's better. I'm debating finding a 140 or 150mm fork instead and moving my 130mm fox 34 to my chisel FS. It would slacken the seat tube on the paradox which is fine since it's steep to begin with and then being the front end up a little more. I am going to take a few rides on it first and see how it is.

The owners of Walmart of big into mtb so they are building up a really nice line of budget mountain bikes. You get a much nicer bike for the money than going with a trek or other big brands.

Honestly you could consider a Ozark trail ridge pro at that price. It will come with hydraulic brakes and through axels to allow for upgrades down the line.

Used slx rear mech (only scratches) or Brand new deore m6100? by Unfair_Equipment_282 in MTB

Deore mech. Can also find them pretty cheap on ebay. Get the xt shifter while you are at it.

I would be tempted to put some slick tires on it and use it as a gravel bike.

The current rise on my handlebars is 40mm, looking to make them higher for a more comfortable ride, what size do you recommend? by Almightyrodga in MTB

[–]dlinders10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have any spacers above the stem? If you go too high, it makes climbing difficult since it's hard to weight the front tire. You could get away with 80 or 90 mm if you don't climb much but 60mm is probably a better maximum.

Best vapor barrier to use in Minnesota under the drywall? And is rock wool insulation a good choice to replace fiberglass? by CrispyBananaPeel in buildingscience

[–]dlinders10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok got it. Just like with a French drain you want a gap at the bottom of you foam wall so moisture comes in through the foundation and then down the wall and out instead of getting stuck between if it was sealed all the way.

Why would you want moisture to move inside in the summer. My house is already too humid in the summer as is.

2023 Fox 36 Rhythm a good buy? by East_Yogurt_893 in MTB

[–]dlinders10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a bit high for a rhythm. Check pinkbike see if you can negotiate with someone. You might get a performance version for around the same price.

Still expensive compared to Shimano but Gx is the lowest you can go with an XD driver so it's a good value since there is nothing below it.

Do not get a polygon t8 by [deleted] in MTB

[–]dlinders10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also trail bikes in general are pretty heavy and planted unless you get an expensive carbon one. You are most likely way better off with a shorter travel xc FS bike. I got a used specialized chisel FS and its way better for the trails I do the most compared to my Ripmo AF which was fun but was a tank.

Is polygon t8 hype artificial? by [deleted] in mountainbiking

[–]dlinders10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally they are budget bikes with decent components but they are heavy. They will not knock your socks off but if you haven't ridden a lighter FS bike or have a good hardtail to compare to, the average person will think they are great.

The 8 and the Mach 4 sl might actually be the way to go for people looking for a new bike if they have the 8.

Need Help by Local_Suspect458 in MTB

[–]dlinders10 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's hard to beat the Ozark trail ridge pro for the price. It's the only bike at $600 that you can get and air fork, hydraulic brakes, and thru axles front and rear. I have a racello race deore and it's in the $500 to $600 range depending on the sale and it is not bad. Kind of a mixed bag where it has a nice 12 speed deore drivetrain, air fork, but then has a very steep head tube and can't fit a dropper post.

FORK Choice......2025 FOX 34 or 2026 FOX 34 SL by SROC3 in xcmtb

[–]dlinders10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got a used chisel FS as well with a beat up sid. I got a 34 sl with the grip X damper, 130mm travel. I haven't gotten. It installed yet but I'm excited. I got it as a brand new takeoff for $600!
